TENNESSEE BASKETBALL

FRONTCOURT EFFICIENCY• In Tennessee’s season-opening win over UNC

Asheville Tuesday, forwards John Fulkerson, Yves Pons and Olivier Nkamhoua combined to shoot 14-of-21 (.667) from the field.

• That trio also had five assists and only three turnovers in 69+ total minutes of action.

NATION’S LONGEST WIN STREAK• Tennessee is riding a 27-game home win streak that is

the longest active streak among Division I teams. • The streak dates to the 2017-18 season. The Vols won

their final eight games at Thompson-Boling Arena that year before going 18-0 at home last season.

• Tennessee’s last loss in Knoxville was a 94-84 loss to Auburn on Jan. 2, 2018.

• The program record for consecutive home wins is 37 (2006-09). The current streak is the fourth-longest in UT history. The Vols have also authored home win streaks of 33 games (1966-68) and 28 games (1935-37).

BOWDEN & TURNER APPROACHING1,000-POINT MILESTONE• Senior guards Jordan Bowden and Lamonté Turner

are less than 100 points away from eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for their respective careers.

• A total of 50 Vols have accomplished that feat during their time on Rocky Top, with Admiral Schofield and Grant Williams being the most recent additions to the 1,000-Point Club last season.

• Turner (968 points) and Bowden (951 points) could both reach the milestone within the first month of the season. Last season, Schofield and Williams achieved the feat in the same game, surpassing the mark in UT’s win over Louisville in the NIT Season Tip-Off.

• Tennessee has reached the Sweet Sixteen each of the last two seasons in which two players joined the 1,000-Point Club. In 2014, Jordan McRae and Jarnell Stokes joined the club.

• All-time, UT has had 11 duos reach 1,000 points in the same season, including Ernie Grunfeld and Bernard King in 1975-76.

TURNER ASCENDING 3-POINT LIST• Senior guard Lamontè Turner ranks 12th in Tennessee

history with 162 career 3-pointers.• He has the second-most makes among all active

players in the SEC.• Fellow senior Jordan Bowden has made 137 career

3-pointers and could ascend into UT’s all-time top 10.

PLAVŠIĆ TO LOSE A YEAR• As October came to a close, Tennessee learned

that transfer forward Uroš Plavšic will lose a year of eligibility after his NCAA waiver for immediate eligibility was denied (also denied on appeal).

• Tennessee plans to seek one final appeal.• Plavšic redshirted last season as a true freshman at

Arizona State. He enrolled at UT in May.

LEAGUE MEDIA PICKS VOLS FIFTH;TURNER IS PRESEASON ALL-SEC• In mid-October, a panel of league media picked

Tennessee to finish fifth in the SEC regular-season race.

• The media tabbed guard Lamonté Turner as a second-team preseason All-SEC selection. Turner also was one of nine players who received votes for SEC Player of the Year.

TENNESSEE LOST 70 PERCENT OFITS SCORING, TOP THREE SCORERS• After losing four of the five starters from last year’s

squad and eight total players, the Vols have gone from one of the most experienced rosters in college basketball to one of the greenest.

• Of its 3,035 total points scored last season, Tennessee returns just 922—or 30 percent—of its total scoring.

• UT’s top three scorers from a year ago in Grant Williams (18.8 ppg), Admiral Schofield (16.5 ppg) and Jordan Bone (13.5 ppg) either graduated or elected to forgo their senior season to pursue a professional playing career.

• In addition to scoring, Tennessee also lost the majority of its production from last season in blocks (71.9%), assists (66.0%) and rebounding (65.1% ).

• Entering last year, Tennessee’s roster had combined to score 4,094 Division I points. The Vols’ 14-man roster entered this season having scored just 2,773 points.

• Two seniors, Jordan Bowden and Lamontè Turner, accounted for 1,892 (68 percent) of those points.

TENNESSEE IS SEC’s WINNINGESTPROGRAM THE LAST TWO YEARS• Tennessee is the SEC’s winningest program over the

last two seasons—both in terms of total victories and win percentage.

• Murray State opened its season with a 69-49 home win over Southern on Saturday night.

• After losing the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, guard Ja Morant, Murray State will look to redshirt sophomore guard Tevin Brown as a key contributor. Brown is the Racers’ leading returner in scoring (11.8 ppg), assists (2.3 apg) and steals (1.1 spg), while also showing himself as a force on the glass, averaging 6.5 rebounds per game last season.

• The Racers also return forward Darnell Cowart. The senior, in his first season with Murray State—after transferring from junior college—was named to the 2019 OVC All-Newcomer Team after averaging 10.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season. After Cowart was inserted into the starting lineup in their 22nd game, the Racers reeled off 12 consecutive wins to end the season before losing to Florida State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

• Murray State head coach Matt McMahon and assistant coach Tim Kaine are both East Tennessee natives, hailing from nearby Oak Ridge.

• Along with two key returners, the Racers also look to gain production from their talented class of freshmen guards. Noah Kamba (6-2, Brookline, Mass.) provides a unique playmaking ability, along with a high level of quickness and speed. While, Chico Carter Jr. (6-2, Columbia, S.C.) has the ability to distribute as well as any guard, along with being an effective scorer.

• Murray State was named the most Instagrammed college in the state of Kentucky in a 2019 study.

• The Boy Scouts of America Scouting Museum is located on Murray State’s campus.

• Lofton made his first four shot attempts—all 3-pointers—in the first half when the Volunteers led by as many as 18 points.

• The Racers opened the second half with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 42-35, but Tennessee followed with a 15-0 run started on a basket by Duke Crews. A dunk by Chism gave the Vols a 57-35 lead with 15:05 remaining, and Murray State couldn’t keep up afterward.

• Crews and Dane Bradshaw each scored 12 points for the Vols. JaJuan Smith added 10 points and eight rebounds for UT. Chism grabbed nine rebounds.

• Tennessee’s Jordan Howell played his second game as the starting point guard, taking over for freshman Ramar Smith.

• Tyler Holloway, Kevin Thomas and Marvin Williams led Murray State with nine points each.

McMAHON AN OAK RIDGE NATIVE• Murray State head coach Matt McMahon is a native

of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and is a graduate of Oak Ridge High School.

• McMahon spent the 2001-02 season on staff at Tennessee as a graduate assistant under head coach Buzz Peterson.

• Racers assistant coach Tim Kaine also is a native of Oak Ridge.

VOL LEGEND’S SON ON RACERS STAFF• Murray State Director of Player Development Ronrico

White is the son of Tennessee All-American Tony White.

• Ronrico White is in his first season on the Racers’ staff. He was an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb last season. A Knoxville native and Bearden High School graduate, Ronrico played collegiately at Chattanooga.

• Tony White ranks third on UT’s all-time scoring list with 2,219 career points from 1983-87. The 1987 SEC Player of the Year joins Bernard King as the only Vols ever to lead the SEC in scoring multiple times. He also holds Tennessee’s single-game scoring record, as he dropped 51 points on Auburn on Valentine’s Day in 1987.

TENNESSEE PROGRAM READYTO MAKE ITS CANADIAN DEBUT• Tennessee makes its Canadian debut (in any team

sport) Nov. 16, as the Volunteers are set to face Washington as part of the James Naismith Classic in Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena.

• The inaugural tripleheader event also features games between Buffalo-Harvard and Rutgers-St. Bonaventure.

• In their second season under the direction of head coach Mike Hopkins, the Huskies won the 2019 Pac-12 regular-season championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Washington finished with a 27-9 (15-3 Pac-12) record. Hopkins has led UW to back-to-back 20-win seasons and has claimed consecutive Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors.

• Tennessee is 18-11 all-time against current members of the Pac-12.

• Vols head coach Rick Barnes owns a 30-22 career record against current members of the Pac-12. Washington is the only Pac-12 school he has never faced.

this season extended the 3-point line from 20 feet 9 inches to match the international distance of 22 feet 13/4 inches.

• During Rick Barnes’ previous four seasons at Tennessee, with the shorter distance in play, the Vols shot .351 (975 of 2,778) from beyond the arc.

• This season, with the line extended, Tennessee is shooting .353 (6 of 17) from 3-point range.

SIX EARN VOLSCHOLAR STATUS• Six members of Tennessee’s roster are wearing the

VOLScholar patch on their jersey this semester: Jacob Fleschman, John Fulkerson, Brock Jancek, Jalen Johnson, Yves Pons and Lamonté Turner.

• To be eligible to wear the patch, Tennessee student-athletes must achieve a 3.0 GPA in either of the two previous semesters, or they must own a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

251 WEEKS IN THE TOP 25 RANKINGS• During his 33 seasons as a head coach, Rick Barnes

TENNESSEE HAS BEEN A MAINSTAYIN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS• Prior to the preseason AP rankings that were released

on Oct. 21, Tennessee was riding a streak of 35 consecutive appearances in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. That tied a school record set March 1, 1999, through Feb. 19, 2001.

• Tennessee was the third-leading vote-getter among teams outside the AP preseason top 25.

• Last season, for the first time in program history, the Volunteers spent the entire season—20 polls—in the AP top 10. Tennessee spent four straight weeks at No. 1 last season before finishing the year at No. 6.

BAILEY ON THE BENCH THIS YEAR• After transferring from Oregon this past summer,

guard Victor Bailey Jr. is sitting out this season and will have two years of remaining eligibility starting next year.

• Bailey played in 73 games at Oregon, including eight starts, and averaged 7.0 points in 17.9 minutes per game. As a sophomore last season, he scored in double figures 13 times and dropped a season-high 20 points on UCLA.

• Residents of Austin, Texas, the Bailey family is very familiar with Rick Barnes. Bailey’s mother, 1996 Olympic bronze medalist Tonja Buford-Bailey, was an assistant track coach at the University of Texas while Barnes was leading the Longhorns’ hoops program.

• Bailey Jr.’s father, Victor Bailey Sr., was a second-round NFL Draft pick out of Missouri in 1993 (wide receiver).

UT ROSTER FEATURES SIX LEFTIES• While most studies estimate that 10 percent of the

population is left-handed, lefties make up nearly half of this Tennessee basketball team. Six current Vols are “southpaws.”

• Tennessee’s left-handers include: Victor Bailey Jr., John Fulkerson, Davonte Gaines, Josiah-Jordan James, Jalen Johnson and Yves Pons.

• Tennessee has more left-handed players than any other team in the SEC this season.

• During the season-opening win vs. UNC Asheville (11/5/19), UT had five lefties on the court for a stretch.

WINDICATORS• Tennessee under Rick Barnes is 39-4 when holding its

opponent below a .390 field-goal percentage.• Tennessee under Rick Barnes is 37-3 when it takes a

double-digit lead into halftime.• The Vols are 11-1 during John Fulkerson’s career when

he grabs five or more rebounds.• Tennessee is 7-1 during Lamonté Turner’s career when

he makes four or more 3-pointers.

THREE VOLS AMONG CBS TOP 101• On Oct. 24, CBS released its list of the 101 best players

in Division I basketball. • Senior guards Lamonté Turner (No. 52) and Jordan

Bowden (No. 81) made the list, as did freshman guard Josiah-Jordan James (No. 87).

• The panel of CBS college basketball experts wrote of Bowden: “Heck, he could make us look dumb and turn into a top-40 player by March.”

EGGERT’S EFFICIENCY AN ASSET• Mary-Carter Eggert is one of only two women who

serve as the Director of Basketball Operations with a men’s program at the “major-conference” level (Cal employs the other).

• Now in her fifth year in that vitally important role, Eggert keeps the program organized, efficient and running smoothly like a well-oiled machine.

• Vols freshman Josiah-Jordan James: “MC is really the mastermind behind it all. She’s our coach off the court. She plays a big role in all of the players’ lives by checking on us daily, making sure we have everything we need, and she always keep our spirits up. She brightens every room she’s in, and Tennessee basketball wouldn’t be as great as it is without her.”

VOLS FIVE FRESHMEN AVERAGE 6-8• Tennessee’s five scholarship freshmen have an average

height of 6-8+.• Josiah-Jordan James is the shortest of the bunch

at 6-6. The others, in ascending order, are Davonte Gaines (6-7), Olivier Nkamhoua (6-8), Drew Pember (6-9) and Uroš Plavšic (7-0).

• The full team boasts an average height of 6-63/4.

HOT ON THE TRAIL• Rumor has it, recruiting is going well.• The signing period begins on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

“I’m not scared of coming back to the locker room and looking my teammates in the eye if I miss.”- Lamonté Turner (on why he isn’t afraid of taking big shots)

“I grew up coming to all the games when I was younger with my mom and seeing all of the tradition and all of the fans. It’s something that I wanted to be a part of, so coming here to play basketball was a dream come true.”- Jordan Bowden, Knoxville native

“I want to play more than I have in past seasons. I want to be solid, be able to bring something to the table every day and be consistent, not just a one-trick pony. I want to do all things—make shots but finish some in transition, rebound, a steal here, a block there, a deflection—just be an all-around player. I want to focus on that role and be able to expand on it if called to do so.”- Jalen Johnson

“I was not always the tall kid. In high school I was 6-foot. I had always been a guard. I played guard all through middle school, freshmen year. So then freshmen to sophomore year I went from 6-foot to 6-6. You can see it on my learner’s permit. So I went from 6-foot to 6-6, then 6-6 to 6-8 and then 6-8 to 6-10.”- Drew Pember

“Coach Barnes coaches the walk-ons, everybody the same, the same treatment. You would think, ‘Coach, why you spending time coaching him? That doesn’t make sense. Why?’ But he has a motive for everything. I’ve seen it with me. He coached me (tough) my sit-out year. The next year, I knew everything. So he has a reason why he does stuff. I talk to VJ (Bailey) a lot about that.”- Lamonté Turner

“We’re not coming in just to be that foundation. We’re coming in to start something and create something that’s going to last forever... We want to be that huge burst that comes to Tennessee. I think we’re national championship contenders in a few years.”- Grant Williams, 2019 NBA Draft Pick (as a high school senior in May of 2016)

NON-CONFERENCE BREAKDOWN

ANNIVERSARIES• The 2019-20 season marks the 10th anniversary of

Tennessee’s Elite Eight run in 2009-10. That marks still stands as UT’s deepest run in the postseason ever. The squad finished with a 28-9 record. During the NCAA Tournament, the Vols defeated NBA All-Star Kawhi Leonard and San Diego State in the first round, 62-59. After cruising past Ohio in the second round, Tennessee finally advanced past the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in program history with a 76-73 win over Big Ten champion Ohio State, who was led by Evan Turner, the No. 2 pick of the 2010 NBA Draft. The run came to an end in the Elite Eight, where the Vols fell to Michigan State, 70-69.

• This season also marks the 20th anniversary of UT’s Sweet Sixteen run in 1999-2000. That was just the third time the Vols had reached the regional semifinals but was the first since the tournament had expanded to a 64-team format. That team also claimed an SEC Eastern Division title. The league abandoned divisional play following the 2010-11 season.

• Ten years ago (on Nov. 17, 2009), the Vols set single-game school records for points (124), assists (34) and 3-pointers (16) in a victory over UNC Asheville. Tennessee also recorded its second-most points in a half (66), its second-largest margin of victory ever (+75) and its fifth-most field goals in a single game (46).

• Thirty years ago, during the 1989-90 campaign, UT’s all-time leading scorer, Allan Houston, posted the Tennessee single-game record for points scored by a freshman with 43 against LSU (on Feb. 10, 1990). That mark ranks as the fifth-most points ever scored by a Vol in a game. Also in that game, Greg Bell chipped in 31 points, which is one of only five times ever when two Tennessee players scored 30 points in the same game.

• Twenty years ago (on Dec. 21, 1999), the Vols set a single-game school record with 22 steals during a 102-58 win over American-Puerto Rico. Ten years later, the 2009-10 squad posted the second-highest mark with 21 steals in a game against North Carolina A&T.

• On Feb. 6, 1980, All-American Reggie Johnson matched the program record for field goals made with 19 against Florida. He finished with 43 points in the outing.

• During the 1999-2000 season, C.J. Black improved his program-record in career blocks to 212. No other Vol has yet to eclipse the 200-block mark for their career. Black finished his career with an incredible 1.80 blocks per game average.

STRENGTH COACH MEDENWALD WAS A TWO-SPORT STANDOUT• Vols Director of Sports Performance Garrett

Medenwald has an impressive history as a two-sport collegiate student-athlete.

• At Division III Wisconsin-Stevens Point, he was an outfielder for the baseball team, which won the Midwest Regional and finished fifth at the 2010 NCAA Division III College World Series.

• As a football running back at Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater, he helped lead the Warhawks to back-to-back national championships in 2010 and 2011.

• Medenwald finished his football career at Whitewater holding several program weight room records in cleans, snatch, split jerk, bench press, pro agility, broad jump, vertical jump and 40-yard dash.

• Also an elite powerlifter, Medenwald was a national qualifier in Olympic weightlifting.

SCHWARTZ PROMOTED;RISING STAR ENGLISH JOINS STAFF• After former lead assistant Rob Lanier accepted the

head coaching job at Georgia State last spring, Rick Barnes promoted Mike Schwartz to associate head coach (the same title Lanier held).

• The vacancy created by Lanier’s departure was very quickly filled, as Barnes immediately hired rising star Kim English as an assistant coach. A former All-Big 12 performer at Missouri and NBA Draft pick, English had previously worked as an assistant at Tulsa and most recently Colorado.

• Immensely confident in each of his assistants, Barnes often publicly asserts that each of them, Desmond Oliver included, is ready to take the reins as a Division I coach now.

VOLS’ ROSTER BOASTS INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR•Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes has vastly expanded

the program’s recruiting pipelines since arriving on Rocky Top, including internationally. Since his hiring in 2015, Barnes has now signed four international players, including two in the 2019 class.

• Junior wing Yves Pons, from Fuveau, France, returns to the team this year after seeing an increased role during his sophomore season. He appeared in 35 games with 13 starts and shot .516 from the field. In just his third career start, he recorded seven points, six rebounds and a block in UT’s thrilling upset of No. 1 Gonzaga.

• Pons—who was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti—attended the INSEP (National Institute of Sport and Physical Education) Academy in Paris. Other notable INSEP basketball alums include Boris Diaw, Tony Parker and Ronny Turiaf.

• The Vols’ other international team members this season are forwards Olivier Nkamhoua, from Helsinki, Finland, and Ivanjica, Serbia, native Uroš Plavšic.

• Nkamhoua competed for Finland (as a 6-4 point guard) in 2016 FIBA U16 European Championships divisional play. He is a true freshman this season.

• Plavšic, a redshirt freshman, has competed against fellow Serbian and NBA All-Star Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, as well as Croatian NBA center Ivica Zubac.

• All three players are the first from their respective countries to play for the Vols. Overall, Tennessee has signed 10 international players in its program history.

PONS LOGGED FIBA MINUTES IN FRANCE• Junior Yves Pons spent the summer training with the

U20 French National Team and then competing in the FIBA U20 European Championships July 13-21 in Israel.

• Pons started all seven games for France, averaging 2.6 points per game.

• The French team fell to Germany in the third-place game.

BRAGGING RIGHTS• Tennessee has won its most recent regular-season

meeting against 11 of 13 SEC opponents.• Auburn and LSU are the only teams to hand the Vols

a loss in their last regular-season clash.

COMPREHENSIVE EXCELLENCE• Tennessee’s men’s hoops squad isn’t the only team

enjoying success on Rocky Top.• Four UT teams are currently ranked in the top 25 of

their respective sports—with two ranked in the top 10.• Those teams include men’s basketball (No. 25,

coaches), women’s basketball (No. 25, ESPNW), men’s swimming (No. 10, TYR/CSCAA) and women’s swimming (No. 3, TYR/CSCAA).

• Tennessee softball finished last season ranked No. 11 (ESPN), while baseball ended the year ranked No. 23 (NCBWA).

15-YEAR STREAK OF TOP-20 ATTENDANCE• Tennessee finished fourth nationally in average regular-

season home attendance last year, drawing an average of 19,034 fans to 18 games at Thompson-Boling Arena.

• Last season’s average home attendance of 19,034 was Tennessee’s highest since the 2009-10 campaign, during which it drew an average of 19,168 fans per game at Thompson-Boling Arena.

• The Vols have ranked among the top 20 in men’s college basketball attendance for 15 consecutive years, including seven seasons ranked in the top five nationally.

SEASON-TICKET SALES STAGGERING• Tennessee has sold 15,465 season tickets this season,

marking the program’s highest total since 2008-09 (16,645).

• Before selling any single-game tickets, UT’s season-ticket total by itself would be high enough to ensure a top-12 finish in average home attendance.

• The total of Tennessee’s season-tickets sold is more than the capacity of most (close to 300) Division I basketball venues.

HOME HOOPS DURING THE BARNES ERA• The Volunteers own a 55-11 record at Thompson-Boling

Arena under the direction of head coach Rick Barnes.• With Barnes on the bench, Tennessee is 26-9 at home

against SEC opposition. • The Vols’ current 27-game home win streak is longest

of the Barnes era and ties as the longest active home win streak in the nation (Buffalo).

FACILITIES NOTES

LARGEST VENUES & LEGENDS IN THE RAFTERS

• Prior to the 2007-08 season, UT added a basketball-only practice facility, Pratt Pavilion, which houses two full-size gyms as well as an athletic training room, weight room and film-study room.

• Construction of Pratt Pavilion also marked the beginning of the “first phase” of renovations to Thompson-Boling Arena. This $19 million phase included the addition of 32 luxury suites located in the north balcony, a loge area just below the suites that includes 166 side court seats, new seats for the entire arena, a $3 million center-hung scoreboard and concourse refurbishments, such as graphics and other amenities.

• In the “second phase” of Thompson-Boling Arena renovations, the athletics department overhauled the men’s and women’s basketball offices during the 2010-11 campaign, creating a new and impressive “front door” for both programs.

• New to Thompson-Boling Arena for the 2013-14 season was a 360-degree LED ribbon board that runs along the bottom of the upper deck.

• In March of 2014, Thompson-Boling Arena became the third college basketball arena to install an LED lighting system, which features fixtures that are smaller, brighter, and up to 85 percent more efficient than conventional arena metal halide lights.

• The weight room in Pratt Pavilion was renovated and expanded to 4,350 square feet in the summer of 2016. Additions include a full-court-length stretch of synthetic turf, a custom rubber floor, a 40-foot, steel-reinforced throwing wall, six Keiser Functional Trainers, four TRUEStretch Cages, three custom, 10-foot Power Lift pulley units (ideal for taller student-athletes), seven sets of 90-pound PowerBlocks and a zoned, high-powered stereo system.

• In September 2018, work concluded on a $5 million locker-room renovation at Thompson-Boling Arena. In addition to the beautifully revamped spaces for the men’s and women’s teams, the Larry Pratt Basketball Locker Room Complex also includes an athletic training facility featuring world-class hydrotherapy systems.

TENNESSEE BASKETBALL

VOLS WELL REPRESENTED IN THE NBA • Multiple Tennessee alums will have a presence in the

NBA in 2019-20—highlighted by a pair of veteran starters with the Philadelphia 76ers in forward Tobias Harris (2010-11) and guard Josh Richardson (2011-15).

• Three VFLs had their names called in June’s NBA Draft. Grant Williams was drafted in the first round (22nd overall) by the Boston Celtics. Admiral Schofield was selected 42nd overall, and Jordan Bone was taken with the 57th pick. Draft-day trades sent Schofield to the Washington Wizards and Bone to the Detroit Pistons.

• Tennessee was one of five schools to have three players selected in the NBA Draft, and UT was the first school to have three upperclassmen selected in the same draft since Vanderbilt in 2012.

• Harris is embarking on his ninth NBA season. He started all 82 regular-season games last year (55 with the Los Angeles Clippers and 27 with the 76ers). He averaged a career-best 20.0 points per game, and his 18.2 ppg with the Sixers ranked second on the team. For his career, Harris averages 15.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game while shooting .364 from 3-point range.

• Richardson enters his fifth NBA season—the previous four with Miami. The 26-year-old has started 154 games over the last two seasons and averages 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists during his NBA career. He also shoots at a .368 clip from 3-point range. His averages for points, rebounds and assists have improved every year as a pro.

• New York Knicks Assistant GM Allan Houston (1989-93) continues to play a key insider’s role with the franchise he once starred for. He also serves as GM of the NBA G-League’s Westchester Knicks.

VOLS ACTIVE IN NBA G LEAGUE• Tennessee had two alums on NBA G League training

camp rosters.• Those players are Kyle Alexander (Sioux Falls SkyForce,

affiliate player) and Devon Baulkman (Grand Rapids Drive, local tryout player).

• Rookie point guard Jordan Bone is on a two-way contract with the Detroit Pistons and will spend significant time with the Grand Rapids Drive this season.

• Alexander is embarking on his pro rookie season. He went undrafted in June but signed a free-agent deal with the Miami Heat after a strong showing with the club during the NBA Summer League. He was waived by the Heat at the conclusion of the preseason and quickly landed a roster spot with Sioux Falls.

VOLS ON NBA MOCK DRAFT BOARDS• Freshman guard Josiah-Jordan James and senior

guard Jordan Bowden both currently appear on various mock 2020 NBA Drafts.

• Jonathan Givony of ESPN.com projects James to go to the Houston Rockets with the 26th overall pick.

• The website NBAdraft.net projects Bowden to go to the Los Angeles Clippers as the 50th overall pick.

QUICK LOOK BACK AT 2018-19• Tennessee was tied as the fifth-youngest team in

the nation last season (in terms of class/eligibility), and the Volunteers were picked in the preseason to finish 13th in the SEC race.

• In Rick Barnes’ third season, the Vols exceeded expectations by winning an SEC regular-season championship, earning a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and landing at No. 10 in the year-end RPI.

• One of the most beloved teams in program history authored one of the greatest seasons in program history as the Volunteers tied the school record for wins, finishing 31-6 (15-3 SEC).

• National Coach of the Year Rick Barnes guided Tennessee to a school-record 19-game win streak, a perfect 18-0 record at Thompson-Boling Arena and a program-record-tying three wins over teams with a top-five ranking.

• The Vols also spent the entire season—wire-to-wire—ranked in the top 10, including four weeks atop both major polls.

• Leading scorer Grant Williams earned consensus first-team All-America acclaim and was the first SEC player since 1996 to be named SEC Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons.

• Senior wing Admiral Schofield was a first-team All-SEC performer, and junior point guard Jordan Bone was a second-team honoree.

• The Vols earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and defeated Colgate and Iowa to reach the Sweet Sixteen, where they suffered an overtime loss to Purdue.

FUTURE FOES• Tennessee next season will finish up home-and-home

series with Cincinnati (in Knoxville) and Wisconsin (in Madison). Both series began this season.

• As the third and final game of the current contract, Tennessee will face in-state foe Memphis next season in Nashville at Bridgestone Arena.

“Uroš Plavšić was denied clearance to compete with our men’s basketball program this season, and our appeal of that decision also was denied. We are extremely disappointed—quite frankly, stunned—in this outcome, and feel strongly that very compelling facts support clearance for immediate eligibility.

“We are at a loss as to how this decision aligns with a mission of prioritizing the well-being of student-athletes, and we are struggling to provide an explanation to a deserving young man who stands to lose a year of eligibility. We will stand by Uroš and support him in every way possible as we exhaust all options in advocating for his competitive opportunity.”
