education, for teachers and for involvement in our youth
activities.

We wish to welcome our newly registered parishioners to San Antonio: Suzanne Nichol
Brynn Goldate Maureen Stasi
and Marylin Stasi
SAFE ENVIRONMENT
There will be a Safe Environment Training Class at St.
Maximillian Kolbe Church, 1441 Spear St., Port Charlotte
on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 6:00PM. The class takes
two hours. If you are a new volunteer this class is
required. Please reserve your seat by going on line to Diocese of
Venice-Safe Environment.
FLU SEASON HAS PEAKED
The Center for Disease Control has reported that the
flu season has peaked and flu activity in Florida is
now minimal. While it is still prudent for parishes to
ensure thorough hand-washing takes place before
and after Mass, the precautions instituted in January
are now rescinded. We also remind parishioners to
remain home if they are ill.
IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING
Canon Law #534-1 “After a pastor has taken possession
of his parish, he is obliged to apply a Mass for the people
entrusted to him on each Sunday and holy day of
obligation in his diocese.” So, there is a Mass said for all
of us every week!
FATHER’S DAY INTENTIONS
If you haven’t already submitted your Father’s Day intentions,
please do so by Monday June 11th. You may use the
envelopes on the chair backs or simply write the names
on a piece of paper marked Father’s Day intentions and
either drop it in the offertory basket, or drop it by the
office. You may also call the office and give the
information to the receptionist. Please print the names
clearly.

EMMAUS SUMMER BOOK CLUB
Our fourth annual summer book club begins Wednesday, June 20, and continues weekly through August 1, with no meeting on Wednesday July 4th. This year in addition to an evening meeting, we are offering a morning meeting. Both sessions will meet in the youth room in the Ministry Building. The meeting time for the morning session is immediately after the 8:00AM Mass, and the evening session is from 7:00PM to 8:30PM. Please email Loretta Sproul at [email protected] if you will attend, and indicate which session (morning or evening) you plan on attending. Note that if we don’t have enough women for the morning session it will be cancelled. The book club is open to all interested women, so invite your friends! The book this year is Be Healed, A Guide to Encountering the Powerful Love of Jesus in Your Life, by Bob Schuchts. It is available through amazon.com (lowest price), booksamillion.com and barnesandnoble.com in paper back, new and used. This book was the subject of a talk given by Fr. Sean Monahan, assistant director at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Retreat Center, at the Diocesan Catechetical Day. It was also presented by Fr. Sean in a 3-day retreat at OLPH this past May. At our first meeting, we will discuss the first two chapters of the book and the questions within those chapters. If you have any questions please email Loretta Sproul at [email protected].
The 2018 "Hurricane Season" is under way and already
there has been one named tropical storm. The season will
continue through November 30 and all are encouraged to
pray for protection from the storms that often threaten
Southwest Florida. The devastation brought by Hurricane
Irma in 2017 reinforces the fact that we need to pray for
God's protection and care.
PRAYER FOR SAFETY DURING
HURRICANE SEASON
O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble
voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your
order and returned to its former quietude.
You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the
shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the
Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its
seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries,
invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster.
During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving
Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are
still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal
with passing of time.
O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, we ask
you to plead with your Son on our behalf, so that, spared
from the calamities common to this area and animated
with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the
footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly
Jerusalem, where a stormless eternity awaits us. Amen.
[Composed by Most Rev. Maurice Schexnayder (1895-
1981), Second Bishop of Lafayette (1956-1973),
following Hurricane Audrey in 1957]
