DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

Science Model Exhibition

On 4th & 5th of January 2019, a State Level Science Model Making Exhibition was held

at Koppal. Two students, Veronica and Tejaswini were selected for the Two-day

exhibition programme under the guidance of our Teacher Coordinator, Ms Poojitha.

Chemistry Extension Activity

Chemistry Extension Activity for the Teresian High School students was held on 12th

January 2019. The students were brought to the UG Chemistry Lab to perform

experiments based on their syllabus.

Inaugural of Archaeo Chemistry

Inaugural programme of Archaeo Chemistry was held on 25th January 2019 in the AV

room. The chief guest of the programme was Mr. GIA Prabhahoran, Senior Conservation

Assistant.

Chemistry With Fun in Palya

Chemistry Extention Activity, Chemistry with fun was held on 2nd February 2019 for

the Government High School Students in Palya. Students who participated were

Tejaswini K, Florini, Veronica, Harshitha, Nambreetha, Ramya,Carmel, Mbali, Shreya,

Sumana, Barsha and Anusha. Teachers who escorted the students were Dr. Vasantha,

Ms Poojitha, Ms Salma and Mr. Prasad.

Talk on Future Prospects of Applied Life Science in Forming World.

On 19th February 2019, the department organised a talk on Future Prospects of

Applied Life Science in Forming World. An informative talk was given by the Scientist,

Dr. Sayed Baker.

Food Fest

On 16th January 2019, the department organised a Food Fest in the campus.

Scientific RangoliCompetition

The department organised A Scientific Rangoli Competition on 19th February2019 in.

The campus and 22 students participated in this competition.

DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

Quiz and Sketching Competition

The department conducted a quiz and sketching Competition on 2nd February 2019.

The topic of the Quiz was “Environmental Pollution and Protection”. For Sketching, the

topic given was “Wildlife protection”.

An amount of Rs 50/- was collected as registration fee and the amount was utilised for

the Animal Adoption in Mysore Zoo. On 14th February 2019, Donation of Rs 10,000/-

was given for the adoption of Common Langur of Mysore Zoo.

DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY AND ZOOLOGY

Two Days National Seminar

On 6th March 2019, the department of Botany along with the department of Zoology

organised a Two-day National Seminar on New Frontiers in Biodiversity And It’s

Conservation. The Chief Guest of this event was Dr. A K Chakravarthy,Society for

Science and Technology Applications (SSTA) and Guest of Honour was Prof. S N Hegde,

Former Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

Workshop on Mobile Technology and Computer Hardware

The department conducted workshop or hands-on training of Mobile Technology and

Computer Hardware by Dr. Kiran, MSc in Electronics on 8th February 2019 in the

Physics Lab.

DEPARTMENT OF FRM AND HD

One Day Workshop on Entrepreneurship

On 8th February 2019 the Department of FRM & HD conducted One Day Workshop on

Entrepreneurship in Golden Jubilee Auditorium.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY

National Science Day was celebrated on 28th February 2019, it was sponsored by

Karnataka State Council For Service and Technology, Bengaluru. In association with

Karnataka Vignana Parishat, Mysuru. The chief guest was Dr. Venkataramaiah, PhD,

Former Vice Chancellor, Kuvempu University and the Guest of Honour was Sri Vipul

Kumar, IPS, Director, Karnataka Police Academy, Mysore.

On this day several Inter-School and College Competitions were held such as quiz, essay

writing and drawing competition, the winners were awarded cash prizes.

Training programme for Farmers

The department conducted a training programme for farmers on Cultivating, Processing

and Marketing of Medicinal Plants on 16th February 2019. The chief guests were Dr.

Bhagyalakshmi Neelwarne, Dr. Lokesh, Dr. Sudisha, Dr. Vivekbabu, Dr. Yogendra, Dr.

chinayya, Dr. Sundaresan and Dr. Chandrashekhar.

On 13th & 14th March 2019, the Departments conducted Workshop on Recent Trends

National Level Workshop National Level Workshop was conducted on Personality and Business Development Skills on 7th January 2019.The guests for the event were Dr. Snigdha Mishra,Prof.Rachna Nigam,Mr. Vinod Patel from ITM.

Industrial Visit to Wonderla and Nestle on 16th Jan & 2nd Feb 2019

Student Faculty Programme On 11th Feb 2019, Student Faculty Programme was organised for a week, where the students became the Faculty of college for a day.

Arohan Arohan, the Management Fest was held at Ave Maria Golden Jubilee Auditorium on 11th March 2019. The students were given various opportunities to experience coordination, leadership and time management.

Arohan Valedictory The Department conducted Arohan Valedictory on 27th March 2019. All the Language Teachers and Department Faculty were Guests of the day.

Quiz Competition On 11th March, the Department conducted Quiz Competition for the students regarding Business Knowledge.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE • Conducted various seminars on Recent Trends

• Commenced CA/CS foundation course classes for 1st year students.

• Commenced Yoga classes for 2nd year students

• Organised COMMERCIO - a week long fest combining training with fun from

16/03/2019to 22/03/2019

• Commercio Valedictory was jointly organised with the Department of Physical

Education on 28/03/2019 with Mr. Rakesh Kumar Rastogi as Chief Guest and Prof.

Nalini Xavier as the Guest of Honour.

SPORTS

• 39 Students from our college represented in State, National, Southzone and All India

Inter University Tournaments.

• Our students participated in the All India Inter University Tournaments. • Annual Sports Meet was conducted on 22nd February 2019 followed by various

sports events and March Past. • Indoor Stadium Opening Ceremony was on 11th January 2019. • The PE Department conducted a Cricket Match between staff and students.

NSS

National Youth Day On 13th January 2019, 100 students from our college attended the National Youth Day Celebration which was held in Assembly Hall.

Helping Blind Students On 1st January 2019, 20 students from our college gave their service to blind students in Police Bhavana.

National Voters Day The department conducted National Voters day on 25th January 2019 and 100 students participated.

Swach Bharat Sarwekshan 20 students participated in the Swach Bharat Sarwekshan which was held on 29th January 2019 at Oval Ground

National Marty’s Day On 30th January 2019, 100 students participated in National Martyrs Day in Assembly Hall.

Post-Graduate Department of Psychology

ONE DAY SEMINAR REPORT

PG Department of Psychology along with the UG Psychology Department organized one-day

seminar on the topics ‘Mental Health Disorders and Psychosocial Interventions’ and ‘Choosing

Helping Professions’ for both UG and PG students on 26th February 2019. To do so, two

Resource persons, Dr. Sandhya Kaveri and Ms. Swetha K T from one of the well know

institution, Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial Institution, Shivamoga were invited. More than 60 plus

students from the Psychology stream and 7 PG students from the Department of English attended

this seminar. This seminar was arranged to benefit outgoing students (final year students from PG

and UG) from the Teresian College on the above-mentioned topics which will help them in

choosing the right path after their degree.

Post-Graduate Department of Psychology

SPECIAL LECTURE REPORT

PG Department of Psychology had arranged two half a day lecture session on ‘Case History

Taking’ and ‘Mental Status Examination’ using NIMHANS assessment scale for both first and

second year PG Psychology students on 16th and 17th November 2019. Mr. Shyam, Clinical

Psychologist from AIISH delivered talks on the above-mentioned topics. These sessions were

very useful for both the batch students since it was a core skill to learn for budding

Psychologists.

2019 was conducted.

On 21st January 2019, the department organised a Special Lecture on “Integrated Business” by

Mr. Muruli V, Managing Director - Infopest, Chief Executive Officer - IPMO and Vice President-

Grama Vaastavya, Mysuru.

The department conducted a Special Lecture on Wildlife Conservation by Dr. Rajkumar Devaraj

Urs, Managing Trustees- Wildlife Conservation, Honorary Wildlife Warden, Bandipur, Mysuru on

23rd January 2019.

Industrial visit to New Mangalore Port Trust ( NMPT ), Mangaluru on 4th February 2019.

On 5th March 2019, the department organised a Special Lecture on Data Analytics by Prof. H.V

Dinesh Prasad, Founder Chairman, Noble Group of Institution, Bengaluru.

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH (UG)

Report on Book Club VIII

The Literary Association conducted Book Club VIII on 26th February 2019 at 3pm. The

event was attended by the students and faculty of both UG and PG English Department.

Gayatri Sukumar, Literary Secretary welcomed the gathering and addressed the highlight of

Book Club VIII which was, participants dressing up as their favourite character and enact a

monologue or review a book of their choice.

Nine students reviewed an amazing book of their choices and Mr. Merwin Pinto also

reviewed an interesting Konkani book. Rida of 1st year BBA, dressed up as Cleopatra

performed an outstanding monologue from the play ‘Antony and Cleopatra’ written by

William Shakespeare. Ameria of 1st BA, dressed up as a character Mary Lennox, gave a

brief about the book ‘The Secret Garden’ by Francis Hodgson Brunett.

In conclusion, there was a vote of thanks by Jangchup Dolma, Magazine Secretary. The

audience was motivated to read and know more about these books ,through this innovative

way of inculcating habit of reading.

1.Give brief narration about what was it like to study in Teresian college?

-Studying in Teresian, what to tell it was a long way for me. I have completed my 5 years of

studies i.e my Puc and Graduation from the college. I have lots of memories from the

college.One thing I would like to share is, we the students of Teresian are blessed to have

wonderful teachers. All the teachers support every student to build their personality. All the

teachers help students to build not only knowledge but they also teach us values of life that's a

great thing about the college. I’m happy because I was a part of this college.

2.What are you pursuing these days?

-I’m doing my Masters DoS in Mathematics, Manasa Gangotri, Mysore.

3.What’s it like being topper and does it make you feel pressurised to keep that up?

-I personally don’t believe in ranks because it does not define a person but being a topper for

this year I’m happy because by getting this medal, I have made my parents and Teachers proud

I’m happy for that.

4.What are your further plans in life?

-Actually I am thinking of preparing for competitive exams.

5.Who is your role model and why?

-My role model is Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, I often read his quotes that always motivates me.

6.What keeps you motivated and any word of advice for our young College girls.

-I would like to tell one thing I could do this or get this medal only because of Teachers and

parents because of their support I dont like to give advice but I would tell one thing what I follow

Please tell us about yourself and your relation with Teresian College.

Hello, my name is Spoorthi K Philomena. I am a postgraduate in English (2016-18) from

Teresian College, affiliated to the University of Mysore.

What are you pursuing now?

As of now I am preparing for my Ugc Net at home.

How are you feeling about getting a gold medal and a cash prize?

I was extremely happy. I'm thankful and grateful to all my Teachers, my parents and my seniors,

who have guided and motivated me at every phase of this journey.

How do you deal with pressure and what keeps you motivated?

Prior preparation helped me deal with pressure and it is good to have some positive stress which

motivates you, not to do better than anyone else, but to do better than what you have.

What is your plan for future?

As teaching has always been a passion, I intend to start teaching soon and also do my research.

Any last thought you would like to share to our Teresianites?
