Learning Space Expectations Last week students and teachers collaboratively developed expectations for the new learning spaces. Discussions included what each space might be used for and the expectaions for use of that space. Posters outlining these will be on display in the learning spaces shortly. Collaborative Planning This week teachers in the new learning environments met with their team for a professional learning day to collaboratively develop teaching and learning programs for students. Additional to this and their informal discussions, there are two new communication strategies that teachers are using to collaboratively plan for our new learning spaces. Each morning, unless at another meeting or on duty, teachers gather together with their stage team for a ‘stand up meeting’. This is a brief meeting to discuss the upcoming day and any changes to the planned learning experiences. Each team also has a Visual Display Board that they use for brainstorming.

Kiss and Drop A Kiss and Drop/Ride Zone has been installed at the front of the school on Rainbow Street. This is designed for your convenience and for your child’s safety. Designed for quick entry and exit, these zones minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and carers. The zone operates under the same conditions as no parking zones, which means you may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes. You're required to remain in, or within 3 metres of, your vehicle. Days and hours of operation apply to the Rainbow Street zone. Scripture Term 1 Religious Education (Scripture) begins in Week 4 this term. All NSW public schools allow time for Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE), where authorised teachers of approved providers are available. Students in Years 3 to 6 will attend scripture from 9:00am to 9:30am, students in Kindergarten to Year 2 will attend classes from 9:30am to 10:00am. Students will be advised about the location of lessons for their scripture group in Week 3. Students who do not attend a scripture group or Ethics will be required to bring reading materials during that time as no formal school instruction can occur during time set aside for SRE/SEE. We believe that quiet reading during this period is a meaningful and valuable opportunity for students. A parent/carer may at any time notify the school in writing that they wish to change their decision about the scripture group that their child is attending. Please contact me at the school through email and I will forward to you a ‘Special Religious Education and Special Education in Ethics Participation Letter’. Students will continue the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent/carer has requested a change in writing. For more information about Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE), including the list of approved providers, please visit: https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/learning-across-the-curriculum/religion-and-ethics Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you have any questions. From The Library… Library Setup Mrs Soo has been unwell, hopefully she will

be back soon. In the meantime Mrs Marshall and Miss Sayers will be finishing the library set up on Wednesday. Mrs Soo is very disappointed that she is not at school for the beginning of the year in her new library but she has been given Mrs Marshall and Miss Sayers lots of instructions! Library lessons and borrowing will commence in Week 4. Mr Floyd will be teaching these lessons following the program Mrs Soo has written. Library Monitors Students applying to be a Library Monitor need to return their completed application form to Miss Sayers by Thursday 14 February 2019. The applications will then be forwarded to Mrs Soo. Book Club Next week your child will receive a brochure that is part of the Book Club. Rainbow Street PS uses an online system for ordering Book Club called ‘LOOP’. ‘LOOP’ is a linked online ordering and payment system for parents and carers. This system streamlines the ordering and delivery of books. NOTE: We are unable to accept cash or cheque payments. Payment by credit card using the LOOP system is the only way to purchase books. There is no need to bring in any paperwork to school. The last day for Book Club orders will be Monday 18 February 2019.

Last Meeting Thanks for those who turned up. We had our first meeting for the year in the new Library, which has a great view of the (new) playground. Thank you Tanya for organising the spread. Some highlights: School isn’t yet physically ready for a Welcome BBQ, so we’re planning a reprise of last year’s (quite successful) Meet and Greet at The Ritz late March. Watch this space. A draft of P&C Survey is being readied for distribution soon. On the back of the meeting’s agenda sheet was a draft Events calendar. This will be modified on an ongoing basis. Unfortunately, our school hasn’t been selected as a polling site for this year’s State Election. I have happy memories of Cake Stalls of old … hopefully next time. When construction is finally complete, we’ll have our celebration. Meetings are 6-8pm, school Library, first Monday of the month during term.

Library Fridays Commence Week 4. Linh is able to co-ordinate for the rest of this term only. It looks like we have another parent not only able to participate, but also co-ordinate from Term 2 onwards. Library Friday is a great way to socialise with other parents over tea and bikkies without the formal structure of meeting. Every Friday fortnight during term we have a working bee and get-together in the school Library after drop off. Class Reps Please consider volunteering to help keep your fellow parents “in the loop”. See you at school. Greg./ Gregory Dodwell Rainbow Street PS P&C President [email protected] http://www.rainbowstpandc.org.au
