CRONULLA ZONE SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Congratulations to all the students who competed at the Cronulla Zone PSSA Swimming Carnival. Just like our school carnival it was a hot day and we are so incredibly proud of all of our students who swam.

Following on from her success and at our school carnival, Rafaela K dominated her age group, winning every event she entered into. This is quite an achievement! Rafaela has had an incredible year so far in the pool, breaking every record for her age group at our carnival and being named the 2019 Cronulla Zone Senior Girl Champion.

Our Senior Girls relay team were outstanding on the day and earnt themselves a place in the team to compete at Sydney East. Our relay team consists of Camryn H, Kaitlyn B, Sienna M, Lucy A and Rafaela K. All 5 girls are a crucial part of the team and all girls will have had the chance to swim at either the Cronulla Zone or Sydney East Carnival. A special mention to Kaitlyn B who was named Runner Up Age Champion for the Senior Girls division.

Tia H, followed on from her winning form at our carnival and is also off to the Sydney East Carnival. Tia had a full program at the Zone carnival and was successful in gaining qualification for a number of events including the Junior Medley and 50m Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly. Tia was also a record breaker at our school carnival and due to her success at the Zone Carnival was named Runner Up Junior Girl Champion.

This year we had two of our 8yr old swimmers advance through to the next carnival. Jordan P and Caity S will both be competing in their 50m Freestyle age race and we wish them the best of luck for their first Sydney East Representative carnival.

As a whole school we placed third in the overall school champion rankings.

An amazing effort Laguna Street. We are so very proud of you and we wish our swimmers representing Cronulla Zone at the Sydney East Carnival the best of luck.

INQUISITIVE MINDS – OUT OF THE BOX

Yesterday students in Years 3-6 participated in the inquisitive minds workshop. Students were totally absorbed in a hands-on problem solving experience. They learned new skills and strategies as they participated in Maths Relays and attempted to solve Mathematical problems with their team. A big thank you to all parents that came to help with marking.

STEWART HOUSE

This week, students will be receiving a Stewart House envelope. By placing a $2 coin or equivalent inside, completing the entry details on the back and returning to the school, your family will go in the draw to win a holiday valued at $4000 to a destination of your choice! All entries need to be placed in the school letterbox near the Admin office or the Canteen before Friday 24th May 2019.

Stewart House is a children’s charity proudly supported by Laguna Street and many other public schools. During the year you will also receive a bag to fill with clothes no longer needed by your family which is another way we can actively support this worthwhile charity.
