TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parents, Teachers and Friends,
This weekend the boys and girls from Year 4 complete their First Eucharist
preparation by receiving the Sacrament on Sunday at St Mary Star of the Sea
Church at 10:00 am. This is one of the most significant days in the school and
church year as we share in the joy of the boys and girls as they receive Jesus as
the Body and Blood for the first time.
When Jesus meets us in Eucharist, He doesn’t speak to us from the outside; He
unites Himself to each of us. He is in each of us; we are united to Him and open
to Him to change our hearts, to make them more loving, as He is totally loving.
It is not as isolated people that we come to Mass, rather we come as members of
a Community of Faith. The Eucharist is truly the centre of the life of our church
and the principal means of spiritual development, both for us an individual
Christians and for the church as a whole.
This is why, on Sunday when our children receive their First Eucharist, it is such
an important occasion; they join the mystical communion of all the people of
their Faith Community and God. The faith we hand to our children will be their
strength through life. Teachers and priests cannot plant faith in the hearts of our
children. Unless our children sense our faith, they will not absorb faith in their
own lives. Our own faith needs constant nourishment and the Eucharist is the
principal source for this.
God our Father,
Guide us to be significant faith people in the lives of our children.
May they come to know you better through our lives.
May we lead them to union with you through the Eucharist.
Amen.

Head of Primary It is wonderful to see the progress that the children are making at this time of the year. They are settled in their classes with routines and focus established. I love to see the development of their confidence and maturity, which blossoms from now to the end of the year as the children become more proficient at attending to their learning. Staff are constantly speaking to the chil-dren about what it is that we are doing in class during their lessons and why we are doing it. What ‘learning’ is expected to take place. If they are learning about a specific topic, then what aspect is it that we want them to take on board. Are they to become better at making choices about what they are eating, for example? We are expecting children to participate and demon-strate their learning and their understanding of the work covered at all times. We all need to practice a skill for it to be improved, which means multiple opportunities over time in various sit-uations. When we do this, we are more confident with what we are doing and develop those pathways in the brain to establish the learning. Such clever little vegemites! No-one ever told me when I was growing up that I had to make pathways in my brain to help my learning; we just did as we were told. Learning today is still the same, but with more awareness of what has gone before and evidence to show us what works. Please keep the students who will be participating in the Sacrament of the Eucharist this Sun-day in your payers as they complete their final preparations this week, culminating with Recon-ciliation on Friday. The students from Years Four to Seven with be having a joint training session on Thursday morning in preparation for the Winter Carnival to be held next Friday at the Festival Grounds. All students should have received a note yesterday with the details and a permission slip that needs to be returned as soon as possible please. If you are able to help on the day, please let the front office know and one of the staff will make contact with you. At the moment we have 7 teams. 1 Football, 1 Basketball, 2 Soccer and 3 Netball. The competition is geared more to-wards the Years 6 and 7 students with our Years 4 and 5 students participating purely for the sake of participation, experience and enjoyment. It is always a great day with the students (and helpers) usually very tired by the end. We welcome parents/carers or friends to come along to the Festival Grounds to cheer along the kids on the day. See you there!
God bless until next time. Di Nyman Head of Primary

Interschool Cross Country A bitterly cold south east wind met our students as they started this year’s Interschool cross county event. The fastest runners from Carnarvon Christian School, Carnarvon Community College, School of the Air and St Marys Star of the Sea competed on a 3km cross county course. Cold bodies soon limbered up as they pounded out the distance along the Gascoyne River Levy bank. Our fastest boys and girls from Year 4, 5, 6 and 7 acquitted themselves well and the glint of medals was blinding as our students returned to school tired but happy. Well done everyone

OurWaterwiseLessonwithMrBryant
On Tuesday 10th June, a man from the Water Corporation named Mike
Bryant came to some of our classes to teach us about water. We did a
quiz with him. We found out lots a new facts
• Only 3% of the earth’s water is fresh water.
• The human brain is made up of 75% water.
• A male body contains more water than a female body.
He showed us some photos of how precious water
is. He also gave out prizes and we really enjoyed
having him in our class.
