The end of the term – the middle of the year already! Time has gone so quickly this year, with

some great things that have already happened and plenty more planned for the next half of the

year. Stay safe over the holidays and we will see all students return to school on Tuesday 24th July.

Pyjama Day

Thank you to the SLSOs from our Middle School who organised the Pyjama Day to raise funds for

Bear Cottage; and thanks to our families for sending children to school in their pyjamas. I certainly

enjoyed spending the day in mine! The school raised approx. $130.

Circus Excursion

Senior School students recently attended a circus performance by students of Campbelltown

Performing Arts High School. What a talented group of students they are! Some of our classes

have studied the history of the circus this semester and practiced their circus skills!

Munchy Basket

Munchy Basket is run by the students of Bottlebrush class each week. Classes come and visit the

‘shop’ and purchase a treat each week, supporting them in learning about money and making

purchases in a real life situation.

Middle School primary playground upgrade

Staff from the School Plan Wellbeing Committee are in the process of obtaining quotes for new

equipment in the Middle School playground. Money from the recent Court Tavern and the upcoming

BINGO night will be used to install this equipment, possibly slippery slides and a rock climbing wall on

the slope in the playground.

Safe Play Area and Messy Sensory Play area

Money from the upcoming BINGO night will be used to purchase a range of engaging sensory equipment

for the Safe Play Area in the Junior School playground. A messy sensory play area is also being

constructed within the Junior School playground. Staff from the Learning and Engagement School

Plan committee are sourcing suitable flooring and sensory equipment for the area. It is hoped a sink

and water will be made available for this area.

Earn and Return Recycling Program

The school is collecting drink containers, glass, plastic and aluminium bottles and cans to recycle at a

reverse vending machine. Students in Bottlebrush class take the recyclables in weekly as part of the

school’s work program. The enables them to learn and practice important life skills as well as develop

their independence. Please continue to send in your recyclable plastic, aluminium and cardboard

tetra packs. The more we receive, the more money we will make for the school.

Youth Support Worker

The department, the school and the P&C have each committed $7,000 per year for the next three

years to enable the school to engage the services of a Youth Support Worker. $21,000 will be spent

each year to employ someone to work with our students to support their mental health and wellbeing.

Staff from the Whole School Wellbeing team will make a decision shortly on an appropriate candidate.

Music Room

Shelving has been ordered for the music room to store a range of instruments that will be purchased

before the end of the year. An iPad storage cupboard and charging dock has also been ordered to

ensure our iPads with music apps are always charged and ready to use when classes visit the music

room

Tacpac

The Learning and Engagement team have recently purchased a music therapy program from England

entitled Tacpac. Tacpac is a sensory communication resource that uses touch and music to align senses

and help communication and social skills. Tacpac is used in an emotionally safe environment where the

program can be followed without outside sensory interferences. We are hopeful that our students will

benefit from this award winning program.

Banksia Class Term 2 2018

Term 2 for Banksia has been full of achievements and success and this has been the result of their

hard work that they have displayed in class. Our valued members of Banksia have gone way beyond

expectations showing excellent work across the Key Learning Areas (KLA) which can be seen in their

workbooks and around the classroom. In English, the boys have been examining Newspaper articles

that we see every day in our lives and are able to identify parts of a newspaper article independently

each week. Geography has been an interesting topic as we explored the country of New Zealand in-

vestigating the busy cities and the amazing natural landscapes. Finally, the boys investigated our

planet Earth in Science, looking at how to save it through recycling products.

Community Access has been a highly engaging aspect in the students’ schooling life as they have ven-

tured to the local café to practice life skills that are necessary for the future such as; ordering,

paying for food and hygienic practices. Going out onto the community has also provided opportunities

for the boys to see beyond the school grounds.

It has been a magnificent Term with these students and I hope these holidays will be rewarding for

the hard work these boys have done throughout the term.

Enjoy the holidays boys and get refreshed for the next term to come!

balancing objects on their head. They were very lucky to attend a performance at Campbelltown

Performing Arts high school where they saw acrobats and high ribbon activities.

Well done everyone. Have a safe and happy holiday break.
