Week 10 Week 10 brings us to the final week of Term 2 and the semester. It has been interesting times for all of us and likely a time that many of us will look back on as a significant year in history. I am really impressed how our students and families have managed throughout. There have been some rocky moments and we still are unsure how things will progress in terms of the virus. School continues to be a constant for our students and it is always our aim for this to be a safe and happy place. We want students to continually come first in all that we do. I have had so many student visitors to my office to share work and challenges with me. This has been so wonderful seeing the progress and achievement of so many. A lot of families will have received some positive messages on Seesaw from me. Unfortunately, being that I have access to 18 classes, the system does not notify me of individual messages and these will likely go unseen. Should you require direct correspondence with myself, please contact the office. Student Voice I wanted to update you all on what we are doing in relation to student voice at CBPS. We have a parliament system for our school leaders and Year 6 students. From next term, we will be including class representatives to further represent our students on school decisions and student desires for our school. Some of the things that will be or have been implemented in 2020 as a result of student voice are: Water bottle filling station (Year 6 2020, 2019 and 2018 gift to the school to finally be installed), Oval line marking, oval resource kit, K-6 colouring in competition, toilet upgrades, school magazine, student led sport competitions, gardening club. We look forward to see what new ideas our students bring to parliament in the future. Afternoon Collection Thank you to everyone for their support with our arrangements. There does still remain some concern around the number of families in the bus bay. Please ensure you are not standing in the road. As a community we need to role model the behaviour we expect and encourage everyone to use the crossing and keep off the road surface so that everyone remains safe. Can I please ask that you do not coax your child to run onto any roadway when collecting your child. Social Media We often have reports provided to us regarding social media behaviour of some of our students. While generally we will not become involved in following up, there are times where the issues related impact the operation of the school or the wellbeing of the students. Where there is a direct relationship it becomes an issue for us to investigate or deal with. I would like to, therefore, suggest to all our families, particularly those with Year 5 and 6 students to monitor their child’s use of platforms. There are a number of platforms that are meant to be restricted to students aged over 13 but for whatever reason, students do have accounts and are very active. Instagram is regularly of particular concern. I suggest monitoring your child’s usage as it is evident that students are connecting with people they do not know or have not met. There are also students exposed to comments or images that we would all deem inappropriate. The following website has lots of useful information and suggestions: https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents Primary School Mobile Dental Program Children attending participating primary schools in NSW will have access to free dental care through the NSW Health Primary School Mobile Dental Program. The program will be delivered by experienced NSW Health staff, who will be using a combination of fully equipped dental vans and portable dental equipment set up on school grounds. NSW Health is now starting to contact schools that had bookings and let us know that they aim to be seeing schools from Term 3 as planned. Chittaway Bay was previously booked in for dates 7-25 September. NSW Health will get forms out to us during the start of Term 3 for families that wish to take up this opportunity.

Hampers We had the wonderful opportunity to contact families to receive a ‘brighten your day’ hamper. As part of the Tuggerah Lakes Learning Community, over 250 hampers were sent out to families in our area. If you received one, I hope it helped to show that we value our families and gave you a positive for the end of last week. OSHClub Our OSHClub supervisor, Tash, has accepted a position closer to home and will be replaced by Alanah. Alanah has spent time with Tash over the past week and has begun her role officially from yesterday. We wish Tash all the best in her future endeavours and thank her for her support of the students in OSHClub. Reports/Interviews As advised in Week 2 and Week 4 this term, students will receive reports at the end of Term 2, Thursday July 2. While these have been modified for Semester 1, we have worked hard to ensure these are informative and reflective of student progress. Our Parent/Teacher interviews are scheduled for Week 3, August 4. The Department of Education recommendation is still for these to be via phone or via video conference. We will send out correspondence regarding this but unfortunately, we have had error issues with the booking platform which has caused a significant delay. You will be advised of details for booking as soon as we are able. Families will be asked to advise their preference for phone, VC or face to face. Of course, you do not have to wait for a formal interview process to speak with your child’s teacher.

Have a great week of learning CBPS and I want to wish all our students and families a happy and safe Winter holiday.
