Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the Margot Harding Asian Art Exhibition at Western Sydney University. Developing global competencies & intercultural understanding remains a priority for GPPS. The launch of our art exhibition “Our Journey through Japan”, marks our 5th year of collaboration with Western Sydney University. Congratulations to our amazing students, community and teachers who helped make the afternoon so wonderful.

Just a reminder to all parents that it is not at all appropriate to approach children who are not your own in the playground. If you have an issue with another student it is important that you let the teacher on duty know or make an appointment at the office to see your child’s teacher. Your cooperation in regards to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Deputy Principals Report

Maria Cutri & David Shearer

We have now started Mathletics in class and around the school from Years K-6. Each grade use the tool to consolidate the learning that is taking place during the Mathematics sessions. So far we have some great data to indicate the tool is being used effectively. The table below shows the high percentage of students in the yellow (assessed at 85% or higher on tasks) section.

Mathletics allows learning to be set for the appropriate level required for each child. Teachers are enjoying the teaching tool and we appreciate your continued support in encouraging your child/ren to complete the set homework tasks. As a school we have completed 1924 hours of Mathletics learning, earned 268,351 live Mathletics points and accumulated an impressive 1,521,600 curriculum points. Keep up the great work Greenway Park!

As part of the transition to move NAPLAN from a paper-based to an online test, a school readiness test will be undertaken by all NSW schools across September. The school readiness test is to provide school staff and students the opportunity to: - engage and become familiar with the online assessment platform;

- gain insight into the changed administrative procedures;

- provide valuable feedback on areas in which our school needs additional support.

The readiness test will not provide the school with any data about student achievement, rather it will act as an insight to the school’s technology capabilities and ‘readiness’ for NAPLAN online in 2020. Both Year 3 and Year 5 will sit an omnibus test which includes questions from the domains of reading, conventions of language and numeracy. Year 5 will also complete a writing test. At Greenway Park Public School we will be sitting the tests according to the schedule below. It is important to remember that this is the School Readiness Test, not the actual NAPLAN testing period.

This week we acknowledge and appreciate the hard work that the School Administrative and Support (SAS) Staff do each and every day. They are the unsung heroes of our school. From taking phone calls, managing the budgets, fixing scrapes and bruises, helping in the library, a reassuring smile to retrieving lost tennis balls, the SAS staff go above and beyond their duties to ensure everyone feels safe, valued and cared for at our school. To the ladies in the office, the SLSOs (Student Learning Support Officers) and our GA – we say…

Thank you to everyone who came and supported the Dino-Mite Book Fair during Education Week. We sold $16 000 worth of books and items. This means the school is able to keep a percentage of the sales to buy additional resources. There were many books donated to our library by the children and staff. A certificate has been placed inside the book acknowledging these donations. These books will be made available for borrowing shortly. Those who donated a book will be been given the opportunity to be the first to borrow the book. Thank you again for all of your support, Mrs Scheepers and Mrs Pryor

PBL News Our current PBL focus areas continue to be classroom expectations, online safety and visiting the toilets during class time. All staff at Greenway Park Public School are committed to developing a positive school experience for our students. PBL lessons are explicitly taught within classrooms using consistent language and clear expectations. Students following expectations are rewarded with Gotcha tokens and PBL awards. Students continue to work exceptionally hard, displaying and understanding the 4 expectations, Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Proud and Be Respectful. We ask that you assist us by discussing with your child expected behaviours in the classroom. Thank you for your continued support PBL Team

Zone Athletics Carnival Last Thursday, 44 students in Years 3 - 6 participated in the annual Zone Athletics Carnival held at The Crest Athletics Centre, Bass Hill. It was a remarkable day with students from Greenway Park excelling in their individual events and displaying exemplary behaviour. Thank you to Mrs Biady, Mrs Williams and Mrs Zanella who assisted on the day. Students who will represent GVPSSA at the regional carnival will be notified shortly. All participants qualify from their times and results at the carnival, not purely from their position achieved in a race.
