Teachers, Effective Feedback and Aligned Systems and Processes. Day 2, Impact Coach 1, included sessions about: Introduction to the Impact Coach Role, The Research Around Effective Coaching, Know Thy Self, Getting Started as an Impact Coach, Open to Learning Conversations and Next Steps. Following these two days we are now working on an action plan for the first year of our Visible Learning journey. If you would like to know more about Visible Learning, a brochure is available in the front Office or send the school an email and a copy can be emailed to you. Staff from the other two schools were very impressed and also extremely jealous of our new learning spaces in A Block! Thanks Forgot to say last week… a massive thank you to Craig (Ethan’s dad) and Morgan (Saskia’s dad) for being such good sports and parading their Book Week costumes. Thank you also to our wonderful staff who willingly give up their time to support student participation in events such as Showcase, choir, recorder, chess, debating, art camps etc. Without their willingness our students wouldn’t have the opportunity to be involved in these extracurricular programs. Ethics Classes For Non-Scripture Students Did you know that Ethics classes are available for non-Scripture students? There is information about these classes on the Primary Ethics website (https://primaryethics.com.au/). Please contact the RSPS Ethics Coordinator, Griselda Buckland ([email protected]), if you have any queries and/or if you are interested in volunteering to be an Ethics teacher. We currently need two more teachers to provide Ethics classes to students in Year 1 onwards in 2019. Big Band Bash Next Thursday, 6 September 2018, the Junior and Senior bands will perform at the annual Big Band Bash at Daceyville Public School. It is sure to be a fantastic day with students having the opportunity to listen to many different school bands and a performance by the Royal Australian Navy Band. Rainbow Street bands will be performing at 10:30am. Students are reminded to wear full school uniform and bring their musical instruments and folders. Parents are most welcome to come along. Miss McNab Band Coordinator Cantabile Music Festival On Thursday 30 August 2018 the Rainbow Street choir ensemble performed at the Sydney Opera House. They sang eight songs from a wide variety of musical styles. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to perform in the Sydney Opera House. I would like to congratulate these students on their excellent behaviour and hard work preparing for the concert. Miss McNab Choir Coordinator

Debating at Rainbow Street Public School Our Stage 3 debating teams have successfully completed all of their round robin competitions. Our Year 5 and 6 debaters have represented our school with pride and have engaged in the skills of argument and rebuttal with tenacity and skill. There has been some tricky topics and opportunities to argue the negative and affirmative sides during their debates. Topics included ‘That primary school aged children should only be allowed to watch television and movies on the weekend’ and that ‘Creative arts and science should be removed from the curriculum in favour of more sport’. Congratulations to our Year 5 debating team who successfully qualified for the quarter finals in the Sydney Primary Schools Debating Competition. They were narrowly defeated by Coogee PS in a tight and well-argued debate from both sides. Congratulations to our Year 6 debating team who have won three out of four debates in the Premier’s Debating Challenge. We await final results for our zone. Rainbow Street Public School are extremely proud of our talented debaters.

Mr James Roche Debating Coordinator

missed out yesterday (Thursday), today’s your last chance to spoil Dad. Let’s hope Dad is really spoiled and appreciated this weekend ;-) Next Meeting Monday evening, being the first Monday of the month (3 September 2018). 6:00pm in the Library. For childcare (children aged three plus), contact Tanya @TRAC today: [email protected] After the meeting proper, Health and Infrastructure (who are involved with the Hospital Campus development) will be addressing us at 7:00pm. Developments Just to put things in context, there are three developments in and around our school:

1) The school extension that we see around us, and that our Principal updates us on regularly;

2) Development behind the school straddling Young Street — Newmarket (the former Inglis Stables);

3) Development in the Prince Of Wales Hospital Campus, which extends from the northern side of Barker Street to High Street and beyond. Each of these three has different contractors.

Our school’s site not only has to adhere to industry best practices, but also Department of Education regulations, obviously for the safety of our children, their teachers and us. Added to that are Randwick Council workers performing intermittent tasks in the streets around the school, Sydney Water staff repairing broken water-mains, power company contractors maintaining power lines etc. These essential tasks have been part of everyday life since before the rest of the constructions began, though now they might seem to add to the confusion, especially done across the road! Not to mention the Light Rail ;-) Social Functions In The School Hall Even though the Hall itself is used for assemblies, it is not ready for us adults to use after hours, essentially due to the surrounding area being unsuitable for after hours access and no external lighting. Because of this, we can’t factor the Hall in for functions such as Trivia Nights, Halloween dances etc. Anyone who’s been involved in any construction project will tell you, planned completion times can’t be guaranteed. That’s no one’s fault, just the reality of Project Management. Our P & C is hiring the Randwick Girls’ High School hall

for our Trivia Night, the evening of 24 November 2018. See you at school. Greg Gregory Dodwell, President Rainbow St Public School P&C [email protected]
