PLAYGROUND SAFETY
I would like to thank our school community for considering the safety of students in the
morning. The number of students arriving before the morning play bell when there is no
teacher supervision, has decreased. Students are to also be congratulated for adhering to the
school expectation of being safe and have done this by sitting down if they happen to arrive
just before the bell. As you are aware, this year we trialled a new area for the morning
playground. This has been a great success and has provided our students with the opportunity
to run and play more freely before school.
I would like to ask for continued support from our parent and carer community by ensuring all
students move to the supervised playground once they have placed their bags at their
classroom in the morning. As a school we are working very hard to provide consistent
expectations for all and in this particular scenario, if students wait with parents in other
unsupervised areas, this makes it difficult for all students to understand what is expected, as
the consistent message gets lost. In addition, it makes it challenging for our staff to deliver
that consistent message to all students. In the interest of safety, we expect all students to move
to the supervised playground before the learning bell. Your support with this is greatly
appreciated.
FAREWELL
It is with mixed emotion that I announce the departure of Mrs Borgen. Mrs Borgen will be
leaving us at the end of the year to embark on the next part of her journey as she moves into
retirement. Mrs Borgen is an absolute asset to the teaching community. Her level of
dedication to the learning and wellbeing of all students is second to none. Mrs Borgen will be
missed greatly by the EPPS community however, I know she leaves with the knowledge that
she is so adored by her students, past and present and by teachers and families who have had
the privilege of working with Mrs Borgen.
P&C
The annual AGM was held on Monday 3rd
December where a new P & C executive was voted
in.
I would like to thank our 2018 P&C executive for their hard work in supporting our school
throughout 2018. Your dedication has been greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to our 2019 P&C Executive

FABULOUS STAGE 3 WRITING
Hi my name is Seth, I am 11years old and I am in 5D. I started in Year 1 at Emu Plains Public
School in 2014. I stayed for the entire year before I moved schools. I have attended a few
schools since then but now I’m back.
The things I enjoy about school at Emu Plains Public School are seeing my friends, eating my
salt and vinegar chips at recess and playing dodgeball although I think the rules should be
different. I think that if somebody on the other team catches the ball on the full that the person
who throws the ball shouldn’t be out.
Emu Plains Public School is the best! I will see you later bye.
Seth

LIBRARY NEWS
Social media is like a quick shower, but reading a novel is like taking a long, hot bath.
Ceridwen Dovey.
A huge thank you to Ziggy M (5PH) who has once again raised money for our school
Library by participating in the Book Bonus fundraising program run by Dymock’s
Children’s Charities. This is an annual program where participants seek sponsorship, read-a-
thon style, whilst participating in the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. With the money
Ziggy raised I was able to purchase 16 new titles to add to our Library. Ziggy was also able to
choose a book for himself. Thanks, Ziggy for your generosity in using your love of books and
reading to bring benefit to others!
Victorian author, Alison Lester, has been awarded the 2018 Melbourne Prize for
Literature. The $60,000 prize is awarded every three years to a Victorian author “whose
body of published work has made an outstanding contribution to Australian literature, as well
as to cultural and intellectual life.” The judges described Lester as a ‘national treasure’ whose
30 year output of books has “provided children in Australia and overseas with books that
delight, educate and inculcate a love of reading.”
As the end of the 2018 school year fast approaches, it is time for ALL LIBRARY BOOKS to
be returned to the Library. Pink Overdue Notices will be coming home this week with
students who still have books to return. Please assist your children to locate and return these
items promptly. Any items that are lost and/or damaged beyond reasonable repair must be
paid for. Please send the pink Overdue Notice with payment to the School Office. Once
payment has been receipted the Overdue Notices are returned to me and I can adjust your
child’s borrowing record. Thank you for your ongoing assistance in helping your children be
responsible Library users.
Happy reading!

EPPS P&C 2018
A year in review or what did we do with your
fundraising $$$ This year we have been involved in fundraising events to raise money to be able to give back
to our school. We have donated and pledged in excess of $30,000 to support our kids. We’ve
helped fit out a new computer lab, we organised a commemorative brick garden celebrating
the 50yr anniversary of our beautiful school. We’ve purchased trophies for our chess club and
donated towards sporting equipment for lunch time play. We were even successful in
obtaining a massive $130,000 grant for a multicourt that will literally change the landscape of
our school.
We gave back to our wonderful community through our annual “Welcome Breakfast BBQ”, a
fun low key get together opportunity to catch up with school friends after the Christmas break
or get to know new families in our lovely EPPS community. We ran discos at the end of terms
1 and 2 – a highlight for every student! We even shook things up a bit this year and provided
healthy snacks during the discos and encouraged students to be environmentally friendly and
bring reusable drink bottles to be refilled. We ran two very successful working bees, another
chance to have some fun and give our school grounds some TLC. As part of our last working
bee we gave all the student bathrooms a positive power makeover and painted empowering
messages to brighten every kid’s day. We even went viral with posts of our work being shared
around the world!
We ran Mother's Day and Father’s Day stalls and organised visits and gifts for every student
from VIPs like the Easter Bunny and of course an upcoming Santa visit. We held a truly EPIC
event this year and encouraged families into our schoolgrounds to spend the day browsing
white elephant stalls, trying their luck in sideshow style games, playing golf and even
cuddling baby animals.
All finished with an outdoor cinema under the stars – NO RAIN THIS YEAR! We
reached out to and were overwhelmed by the amazing support and generosity we were shown
from our local business community, helping us achieve a whopping $10,000 profit for our
kids.
We officially entered the cyber world this year and set up a P&C Facebook page to keep our
community up to date with our events. We’ve run the Dollarmites banking program, on
Tuesday mornings, all year long.
We still have one final event planned for this year, our first annual Gingerbread house
decorating night. Another initiative to continue to foster the lovely sense of community we
enjoy here at EPPS.
We have a whole lot of fun and always welcome new ideas for fundraising.
Our sincerest thanks to all our volunteers over the year, all the amazingness of this year would
not have been achieved without each and every one of you. Thank you!
Our first meeting back will be the 11th
February next year and we would love to see you there!
#ParentPrideSquad
Our meetings are on the second Monday of each month, and run from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in
the library. Everyone is welcome to attend. We are always interested in new ideas. You can
keep up to date with everything we are doing on Facebook – like and follow us at Emu Plains
