Year 7 Discovery Sunrice IncursionAll of Year 7 Discovery students studying “Water World” in Geography and Science participated in talks from Sunrice at both MRHS sites at the end of Term 3.

This was a great opportunity for our students to hear about how water is used in the Agricultural industry and in our Griffith region. Lots of insightful questions were asked and some of Sun-rice’s products were on show. MRHS thank the presenters for their time and knowledge.

2020 School Captains At the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony, our Captains and Vice Captains for Murrumbidgee Regional High School in 2020 were announced and presented with their badges.

To be selected for these positions, these students followed a challenging process which saw them all rise to the occasion and prove themselves worthy to represent our school.

All of the applicants completed a written Expression of Interest for a position on the Leadership Team. They presented a speech to teachers and fellow students where they shared their ideas about and their vision for the leadership of our school. Voting then took place.

From the votes, eight students (four from each site) were then invited to attend a 2-day leadership camp where they completed leadership activities and challenges. At the conclusion of that camp, all 8 students, their Year Advisors and Camp Instructor voted to select the roles of Captains and Vice Captains for each site.

The results of these elections were as follows:

Congratulations to all of these students and we wish them all the very best in their leadership roles for the year ahead.

Tennis News Charlie Power and Megan Piccoli travelled to Inverell last week after being chosen to represent Riverina in Tennis. As their manager, it was once again a privilege to take them away and they have represented Murrumbidgee Regional High School in an excellent manner. They were very courteous on and off the court.

Riverina won the silver medal. The last time Riverina received a medal was over 10 years ago.

Over the 3 days, the girls improved greatly and remained fo-cused at all times.

This is Megan’s second year in the team and she played in the number 8 position in singles. She was the biggest improver of the team over the 3 days and tried her hardest at all times. She played both singles and doubles and had a number of very close matches. Megan offered encouragement to all players and needs to be commended on her sportsmanship.

I was equally impressed with Charlie’s tennis. She was the number 7 girl (out of 9) in the team. Charlie won 5 out of 8 of her singles matches and 3 out of 6 of her doubles matches. She remained focused at all times and was a great team member. She showed her great athleticism by never giving up on any point.

For Charlie’s ongoing selection in the Riverina team, she was awarded a bronze certificate at the presentation ceremony for “3 years selection in an area team”.

Thankyou

Ms Vicki Breust (Riverina Tennis Convenor & Riverina Girls Manager)Temora High School

This has been a positive change as we have seen the number of students rewarded for being Respectful, Responsible, Resilient, Learners increase.

Specific details about each part of the reward system will be communicated in future newsletters. Please see Year Advisers for any questions regarding the Murrumbidgee Regional High School Reward system.

A big thank you must go to Mrs Tregea, Mrs Hill and Ms Sergi for all their hard work in developing a new system, combining the positive elements from both sites.

Yr 12 Textiles and Design Major Textiles Projects This year saw Year 12 create an amazing array of creative and innovative pieces for their Major Textiles Projects. The textiles product is worth 25% of the students final course mark and the folio is another 25% of their mark. The standard of proj-ects was very high with students using a number of challenging and creative techniques in their work. The projects included: (Photos - L-R)

Lucy Murphy – A hand dyed multi-toned pink denim jacket that transformed into a cross body bag for use at music festivals. It was accompanied by a white under dress.

Savannah Ceccato – A Costume for a Burlesque dancer featuring a boned corset and removable wrap skirt. The corset was heavily hand beaded to add sparkle to the costume that was laced at the back closure.

Jaimee Lewis – A men’s single breasted suit using digitally printed fabric in the jacket and trousers. The fabric print was designed by Jaimee and re-flected commentary on gun laws in Australia and the USA. A number of couture techniques were used in constructing the suit.

Molly Jackson- A double denim ensemble of jeans and a reversible vest inspired by the 1970’s and featuring tie dye, embroidery and applique decora-tion. The items featured couture seam finishes and techniques.

Noel Barone-Schoots – A hand felted bralette paired with a hand crotched skirt. The yarn for the skirt was dyed with natural dyes such as turmeric, tea and onionskin. For modesty a pair of bloomers was also made using lycra fabric.

Lucy Preston – A Textile Art Wall Hanging reflect-ing the themes of Aboriginal Australia throughout colonisation. The piece featured multiple decora-tive techniques and embellishments.
