Term 4 – Week 8 Thursday 30 November 2017
Dear Parents and Carers
Kidsmatter Concerts The Kidsmatter Concerts have been a tremendous success. Thank you and well done to all the students, teachers, support staff, admin staff and parents for supporting the Creative & Performing Arts initiatives at Carlton PS. The cooperation & enthusiasm was contagious & created a great deal of excitement in the school. We have organised a professional video-recording of the concerts. Unfortunately, we cannot sell the tapes publicly as many children involved in the concerts do not have permission to publish externally. However, early in 2018 I will organise a viewing of the concerts in the hall for interested parents. Our Year 6 students will have the opportunity to view the concerts before the end of the year.
Anticipated enrolments In the next few weeks I will need to submit a revision of our anticipated enrolments for 2018. The accuracy of this information is vital as it affects our staffing entitlements and resource funding by the Department. At present our projected enrolments for 2018 indicate that we will maintain our current class structure of 34 classes. However, if we lose a few more students we may reduce to 33 classes. It is very important that you inform the school if you are not expecting your children to return to Carlton PS in 2018. Many thanks for your support with this important information.
Late pick up In recent weeks we have had a growing trend of students not being picked up until late in the afternoon. Some children have been waiting in Cameron St & surrounding streets until 4:30-5pm as advised by their parents. Although I appreciate that the costs of afternoon care are substantial I cannot accept children being left alone for long periods of time. There are circumstances that happen on a day to day basis that are beyong our control. If something like that happens to you please contact the school and we will do our best to look after the children. However, organising the children to wait outside or surrounding streets on a regular basis and for long periods of time is a very dangerous practice. Please see the “Helping Hands” before & after school care group. I’m sure that they will be able to assist you.
Kind Regards, Mr Vrachas Principal

Come and Be a Mentor at Carlton Public School
Johnny and Kevin spend an hour together every week as part of our Carlton Kids
mentor program. During their time together they made some cool paper ninja stars and
played around with this huge Earth Ball. The Earth Ball and lots of other equipment was
obtained by a community grant that Kevin helped us get! If you have an hour a week to
spare and can be a caring adult in a child’s life please come and see Miss Morrison. We
need lots of people who can have fun and also make a difference

Year 6 Soccer Competition
This term Year 6 were invited to join a team and play in a soccer competition held on Wednesdays at lunch time. All the students had a great time and enjoyed the friendly competition. The winners celebrated their win in the final last Wednesday - Soccer Squad (girls) and Boys United (Boys). Thanks to Mr Omar and Mrs Hanley for organising this.

Arabic News Mrs Sabra This term, Arabic students have been learning about legends and fables. Students participated in a range of
activities such as drama, coding, guided reading and writing on the new Ipads to explore these topics. Students in Kindergarten and year one focused on the story of the lion and the mouse. The story teaches us
to never underestimate the power of a good friend. Kindergarten worked hard on their Arabic writing and
guided reading.
Below are some pictures and a link to the video of a play that year one performed to their class. They had a
great time!

Year 3 students focused on the fable of the Tortoise and the Hare. The moral of the story teaches us that
‘slow and steady wins the race’.
Year 5 studied the legends of the ancient Phoenician people and created
informative posters. They also used the Scratch JR app on their personal Ipads to
make an animation of an Arabic folk tale ‘Jiha’. The link is down below.

Wow! What a show!! Countries were the main topic of our Passport to the World show, each class representing a different country of the world. From the amazing Korean pop music to the wilderness of South Africa. Teachers were committed to making the performances as perfect as possible and the students put 100% dedication into their presentation. The air was filled with excitement and enthusiasm from the hundreds of children backstage waiting nervously for their chance to shine. Students felt a shiver of anxiety with nerves at their maximum. The hall was a full house with rows of seated parents eagerly waiting for their child's big debut. Variations of vibrant and fluorescent lights contrasted with the dazzling costumes. Group by group, children of Carlton Public School amazed the impressed audience. Many of the children had to step out of their comfort zone, but by the end of the show they realised trying new things can be fun and can lead to unexpected talents. By Dante V and Andrew Y
