Captains / Prefects Speeches 2016
Good luck to our 2017 Captain and Prefect nominees who will present speeches Thursday at 9.30am in the school hall. Parents are welcome to join us at this special assembly. Following the speeches, students in years 3-6 will be voting in the library to elect Captains and Prefects for 2017. Any one of the nominees would make a fantastic school captain or prefect and we wish them all the best of luck as they speak about the strengths they could bring to the role.

Power FM comes to Milton
What a wonderful morning. Thank you to all the students and parents who came to join in the Power FM breakfast at Milton Public School last Thursday. Thank you to all our helpers. A big thank you to Anita for coordinating the event.
Poetry
This year, Mrs Allen asked 4A to learn "Clancy of the Overflow.” This was great, because "Clancy of the Overflow" is Lucas' grandfather's favourite poem. Lucas, together with 4A, learned it, and together 4A won the Verse Speaking for Primary Schools at the Nowra Eisteddfod. Lucas then starting "touring" the poem, and performed it at the Milton Show (2nd place to a boy in year 7), the poetry open mike during ArtFest, at multiple family gatherings and again at the poetry competition held at St Mary's school in September. Lucas competed against 20 students from kindergarten to year six, both local and from all over the south coast. He won first place for his recital of the poem, but also won first place for his performance of the poem - earning him $60 and a trophy and this certificate. Well done Lucas and Thank you Ms Allen for encouraging the love of poetry.
Robotics
The Milton Droids (Adrian, Michael, Taj and Isaac) competed in Wollongong at the First Lego League Tournament. The boys competed in three rounds where they had to design, make and program a robot to push a buttons, feed animals and many more tasks. In the robot game section they needed the robot to push just one more millimetre and the team may have been off to nationals. Well done boys.
Australasian Problem Solving and
Maths Olympiad (APSMO)
This year we have had a team of 30 Year 5 and Year 6 students participating in the APSMO. The Olympiad was conducted as a series of 5 Problem Solving rounds spread over Terms 2 and 3, each month. Students competed with some excellent results, with 13 of our students achieving in the top 30% of all participants. Congratulations to all our Olympiad competitors. Trophies will be handed out at next Monday’s K-6 Assembly.
Premiers Reading Challenge
Congratulations to all students who participated in the Premiers Reading Challenge this year. A special congratulations to those who achieved the Gold Award.
3-6 Presentation Assembly
Our annual year 3-6 Presentation Day assembly will be held Friday 9th December in our school hall. The assembly will commence at 11:30am and will conclude at approximately 1:00pm. There will be detailed information in next week’s newsletter.
The GIVING Tree
In the front office we have a Christmas GIVING Tree on display. Over the next few weeks we encourage you and your children to contribute with non-perishable food items and new toys (that may be wrapped indicating the gender and age of the present) for local people in need. All donations will be given to the SALVOS. Each person that donates will be given a card to hang on the Christmas tree with your family's name. These cards may be decorated and then hung with pride, knowing that your children and family has helped someone in need at Christmas. Please give generously.
Returning to School in 2017
Students in Years 1-6 in 2017 will return to school on Monday 30th January 2017. Before school, students in years 1 and 2 (2017) will place their bags outside the hall in the canteen COLA and stay in the silver seat area until assembly. Students in years 3-6 (2017) will place their bags in the Upper COLA and stay in the COLA or quadrangle until assembly. We will start with a whole school assembly in the hall with all children years 1-6 sitting in their 2016 places. After assembly, students will collect their bags and break off in year groups listed below:
Year 1 - to Silver Seats area
Year 2 - to Canteen COLA
Year 3 - to Bus Shelter
Year 4 - to Grassy area at the top Quad (or Library if inclement weather)
Year 5 - to Eastern end of COLA
Year 6 - to Western end of COLA These groupings will be for the first week of term only. Students will spend time with each of the teachers for that grade. Please note we do not form 2017 classes this first week of school to allow for enrolment numbers to settle.
Canteen Reducing Stock for End of
Year
Please be advised that as we get closer to the end of the year, the canteen will be reducing stock levels to minimise waste. It would be appreciated if parents could list an alternative when placing lunch orders in the event that your first request is no longer available. Thank you once again to all the wonderful volunteers who have helped in the canteen this year and we hope to see you and many more new volunteers next year.
Koori Art Expressions Exhibition
Congratulations to Darcy, Ella, Archie, Sean, Riley and Annalise who competed in the Koori Art Expressions competition. Their installation artwork ‘Songlines by the Sea’ was selected to be displayed in the Koori Art Expressions Exhibition at the Australian Maritime Museum. A great achievement!
