Phone Etiquette Tips• Voicemail service is useful for keeping track of messages in today’s busy world. Your

voicemail greeting is a quick introduction and should identify you properly. When recording your greeting, be sure to identify yourself by name, phone number, or both. Keep the greeting brief and easy to understand.

• If you are unavailable when your phone rings, do not allow your children to answer unless they are old enough to be polite and able to take a clear, complete message.

• When you have a voice message waiting, try to get back to the caller within a reasonable timeframe.

• Practice good listening skills and never interrupt the person while he/she is talking to you.

• Make sure you speak clearly as you answer the phone; also identify yourself.

• Always have a pen and paper available to write on.

• If you are on a call and another call comes in, you can switch to the incoming caller by using call hold. If you choose to do so be sure to inform the person you are talking to that they will be put on hold. The person then has the choice to stay on the line or hang up.

• When using a cellular phone in a public place, keep your voice low so that you do not disturb other people. Loud conversations can be disruptive to others and are considered inconsiderate. Do your best to keep your telephone conversation between you and your caller.

• When socializing and your cellular phone rings, allow it to go to voicemail. A conversation with a live and present companion always takes priority over an incoming call.

• Remember to always hang up the phone gently.

CHILD SAFETY TIPSChildren can get help easily if they know how to use the phone. Teach your child how to use the phone and educate him/her of the Emergency service numbers such as 911 or 90. Teach your child his/her full name and your full name. When the child is old enough, teach him/her the home and work phone numbers and addresses. Advise your child to never tell callers that you are not at home. Have him/her say that you are unavailable and that the caller should call back later. If your child is old enough, tell him/her to take a message. Teach your child who strangers are; let him/her know not to give strangers information over the phone. Let your child know that if a stranger uses bad words or says something to make him/her uncomfortable, it is ok to hang up the phone. A little preparation can save you and your child undesirable situations.

DOING BUSINESS WITH USESTABLISHING SERVICEWhen applying for service with Belize Telemedia Limited, our Customer Service Representative will require:• Your name • Your street address • A valid personal ID, i.e. current Passport, Social Security Card or Driver’s License • A utility bill to contract mobile service• Your mailing address• Directory listing, if any• Type of service required

REQUIREMENTSTo get connected to any BTL service you need the following:• A valid ID, i.e. current Passport or Social Security card, or Driver’s License• A deposit may be required. This is determined at the time of application. If any arrears exist, then

it must be cleared.• Services such as International Direct Dialing and DigiCell International Roaming are subject to

additional deposit.

MOVING

At least two (2) weeks’ notice should be given before moving to your new location. Kindly notify us of:• The date when service is to be suspended at your old address• The date when service is required at your new address • Your new address and contact number

CONSTRUCTIONWhen building or renovating, contact our Customer Support Department at 0-800-CALL-BTL for consultation on all aspects of your telecommunication needs.

Before digging, ditching or trenching near roads, contact our Customer Support Department at 0-800-CALL-BTL, to determine if BTL has underground cables buried in the area.

Persons damaging cables by digging, fires, accidents or by any other means may be required to pay the cost of the repair. Failure to pay such costs could result in court action.

FAULT REPAIR SERVICE• To report all faults dial 119 Toll Free or visit any BTL Customer Service Center near you.• To report all DigiCell faults call 0-800-DIGICEL

You will be asked to provide the following information:

• Number of the faulty line• Your name and address• A brief description of the problem• A contact telephone number

PAYING YOUR TELEPHONE BILLBTL will send you a monthly bill. Payment is due on or before the date displayed on your bill. Not receiving your telephone bill does not exempt you from being disconnected if bill is unpaid.

• Not paying your bill on time may result in the interruption of your service. • Where full payment to the account is not made, services on the account may be restricted. • Service will only be restored when the account is paid in full. • A reconnection fee must be paid in order to restore services. Reconnection fee is automatically

billed to your account. This should be paid at the time payment of the arrears is being made.

Only authorized cashiers or private collectors are entitled to demand or accept money in respect of any service rendered in connection with telephone installations, payment of bills, deposits etc.

Customers will be given an official BTL receipt at the time of payment. Customers who do not receive a receipt are asked to check immediately with the Corporate Sales or Customer Service department. Customers are requested to bring any irregularity in this regard to the attention of the Manager.

You can pay your bills at the following locations: • At any of our Customer Service Centers or Rural Community Agents (See listing of Community

Agents in White Pages) or at a local bank.

• Online with the banks that offer Online Banking Services or via your E-service account.• By Mail (checks or money orders only): Belize Telemedia Limited P.O. Box 603 Belize City, Belize.• By Direct Debit or Standing Order from your local bank upon request, or through your credit card.

If you have questions about your bill, dial 0-800-CALL-BTL. If a billing inquiry cannot be settled quickly, you should still pay all other charges by your due date to keep your credit record in good standing.

IDENTIFYING USCustomers are asked to provide access at all times to bona fide company employees in the execution of their official duties. Each BTL and BESL employee carries an identification card, giving the name and post, signed by the Human Resources Manager. Customers are advised to check for the identification card of any BTL or BESL employee accessing their premises for the installation or other official duties.

INTERNATIONAL DIALLINGStaying in touch with friends and family abroad is easy with BTL’s International Calling Options. Customers can make International calls, whether they are using a Fixed Line or DigiCell phone. In either cases, customers can dial direct, via our Operator Services or using PrePaid Cards. To call direct you’ll need to dial:

■ International Access Code is “00.” (DigiCell Customers can use the “+” sign to replace the access code.)

■ Country Codes - see listing on the following pages.

■ Area Code for the City, Town, District or Island (in some countries, area codes are not used).

■ Customer Number - the number of the person you are calling.

OPERATOR SERVICESOperator Services are available twenty-four hours, seven days a week. Services offered include:

■ Local & National Directory Assistance.

DIRECTORY LISTING ASSISTANCEDial 113 from anywhere in Belize to get any listed telephone number. Give the name of the person or business for which you require a telephone number.

LOCAL AND NATIONAL OPERATOR SERVICECall Station-to-Station, when you wish to speak to anyone that answers the number that you are calling.

Dial 115 and give the Operator the number you are calling. You will be released from the Operator and billing will start when the dialed number is answered, (regardless of whether the call is being answered by voicemail, child or an unwanted party).

A three-minute minimum charge is billed for using Station-to-Station Operator services.

Call Person-to-Person when you wish to speak to a specific person.

Dial 115 and give the Operator the name and number of the person you are calling. Billing will start as soon as the operator says “Your party is on the line, go ahead, please”.

A three-minute minimum charge and a one-minute surcharge are billed for using Person-to-Person Operator services.

TYPES OF STATION-TO-STATION AND PERSON-TO-PERSON CALLS using 115Paid calls: The person or business making the call requests will pay for the call. These calls can only be made from PostPaid Fixed Line and DigiCell Premier.

Collect call. You can call collect if the person or business you are calling agrees to pay for the call. These calls can be made from any BTL Fixed Lines, DigiCell or Payphones.

A Facsimile call can be made through the International Operator if you do not have International access on your fax line. A three-minute minimum charge is billed for using this service and calls are billed at peak rates at all times.

CUSTOMER SUPPORTYou can dial 119 to report a faulty telephone line or follow up on the reported fault. Customers are also able to query their bills or ask questions about the numerous services that BTL has to offer. You can also send us a message via the below mediums:

VALUE ADDED FEATURESEnhance your Fixed Line and DigiCell Service with these Value Added features.

CALL WAITINGCall Waiting notifies you of another incoming call while being on your phone. It allows you to answer the second call while having the first call on hold. A tone will alert you that there is an incoming call and you will be able to switch in between calls if so desired.

To switch in between calls, press the flash or talk button on your handset and you will be connected to the incoming caller. To return to the original caller press flash or the talk button again.

CALL FORWARDING

Call forwarding automatically forwards your incoming calls to a designated fixed line or mobile number of your choice. You can forward your calls when your line is busy, or when you are unavailable to take the call.

Call Forwarding Calls: To forward all your incoming calls, dial:

To deactivate, dial: #21

Call Forward Busy: To forward incoming calls when your line is busy, dial:

*22 + telephone number to forward all calls to + #

Call Forward No Answer: To forward incoming calls when no one answers your telephone, dial:

To deactivate, dial: #61

DigiCell customers can also forward their calls to their Voice Mail by simply using the “Call Divert” feature on their handset.

This feature is available to both BTL Fixed Line and DigiCell services.

CALL HOLD (DIGICELL ONLY)Call Hold enables you to put a caller on hold when there is an incoming call that you may want to answer.

MULTI-PARTY CALLINGMulti-party calling allows you to talk to other parties all at the very same time. You can initiate the calls, or you can include other parties in a conversation you are already having.

To use this feature make your first call. Once it is established press flash or talk button on your phone and wait for a dial tone. Dial the telephone number of the second person you wish to speak to. Once the second call has been established, press the flash or talk button once again to connect all parties. With DigiCell service, you can hold a conference call with up to four other parties.

SPEED DIALING (FIXED LINE ONLY)Stores up to ten frequently called telephone numbers; you can access these numbers using 1 or 2 digit codes.

To add a new telephone number to your speed-dialing list, dial:

*51 + desired short code (no more than 2 digits) + telephone number + #

E.g. to add telephone number 227-7085 as number 15 on the speed dialing list, dial:

*51 + 15 + 2277085 + #

To use speed dialing, dial:

CALLER IDCaller ID allows you to view date, time and caller’s name/number before answering a call.

VOICEMAILVoicemail automatically answers calls when you are on another call, out of the service area or away. You have the option to personalize your Voice Mail with a unique greeting. Once a new message is in the mailbox, DigiCell customers will receive an SMS and Residential customers will hear a stutter dial tone or see a flashing light on their telephone handset.

To set up your mailbox or retrieve your messages, dial 134. Residential customers can retrieve their messages from another phone by dialing 133 + their telephone number.

ADVANCED FEATURES OF VOICEMAILAdvanced Features of Voice Mail offers you additional Voice mail selections tailoring to your every need.

DEDICATED INTERNET Dedicated Internet access allows uninterrupted access to the Internet with synchronous bandwidths. Bandwidth speeds varies from 1 to 25MB or more as is required by the Business or Call Centre. This service is provided via fibre optic cable and carries redundancy. Service Level Agreements for this service is extremely high and carries 24/7 support.

BTL CONNECT BTL Connect is a new means of providing customers with a convenient avenue to request High Speed Internet (512k speed or higher); via an online solution (URL link) through BTL website and Social Media.  Customers are directed to an online link (www.belizetelemedia.net/btlconnect) where customers can fill out an application.
