What is Terra Development?

    TerraDevelopment (sometimes spelled as two words, hereafter spelled as "TD") is the art and science of developing planets from fragmented, multistate, Type 0 civilizations to united, monostate, Type 1 civilizations. Here and throughout, we refer to TD planets as either Type 1 or Type 0. The types originate from the Kardashev Scale.     TD has as its job the unification and integration of human society, or the society of any advanced, sentient species. So if millions of years down the line, the descendants of humankind discover this presentation, it applies to them also.

How is Terra Development achieved?

    TD is achieved through many means. The current means that is popular amond businesses is globalization. However, other means have been attempted (and have been discovered to fail) thoughout history, such as fascism, militarism, imperialism, spreading of communism, and forced war.    Since these methods have been known to fail, it is clear now that to succeed at creating an integrated society, we must resort to nonviolence. Current globalization is not working fast enough and it creates some inequality temporarily. We need another way.

What other ways?

    There have been suggested various methods for TD such as global social welfare and fair trade. Neither of these two are being actively enforced, and the latter has become the battlecry of some very unhinged people. Another method that exists has been used by religion for thousands of years; that is called compassionate giving (or compassionate construction). Why this method does not appeal to business managers is beyond most individuals. It may be because you will lose some money while doing it. But doesn't everyone who is in business lose some moeny anyway?

So what solutions exist?

    There is a way. TD can be achieved once the people who are being helped can read and write the language of the people helping them. Generally in my view there are no more than two major world languages being used by people who are helping to develop economies in impoverished nations. These two languages are Chinese and English. Chinese is the most spoken language in the world, but English is the de facto official world language. English is used preferentially for business matters, while Chinese is used preferentially for personal and family matters. However, not all speak Chinese.

Chinese as a Common Language

    Chinese would be a good common language, because in my opinion, it is not hard to learn and stays with the student for many years. China is one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations, and has been the world leader in innovation and tech for 1500 of the past 2000 years. Although there have been periodic revolultions, the most recent one ending in 1949 and the next one ominously predicted for 2013 (a farmers revolt that hopefully will be avoided if China does what is needed), the culture as a whole has remained unchanged. So this ancient language is one option for TD lit prorams.

English as a Common Language

    English is the world's de facto official language, and if certain myopic laws get passed in the USA, will soon be the USA's only language (permitted, that is - all other languages will be banned from public education and cultures will be forced to assimilate - that is why the law is myopic).    English has been the world's business language since the British Empire, so it has a large following in places offshore England (such as in India and China). English is required for piloting aircraft, as all ICAO communications occur in this language. Finally, English is a good lit program candidate.

How to create global literacy?

    First and foremost, roads have to be built. Infrastructure must be in place to allow for the shipment of literature and the transportation of educators to the remote farming and gathering villages of the world.    If roads are not a priority, then some type of satellite internet architecture must be in place with enough bandwidth capacity solely designated for third-world development use to handle all the language learners.    Once the infrastructure is in place, durable computers must be sent to the villages, handed out, and activated.

    After the computers have arrived and have been setup, they must be tuned to the correct websites. Then the students must be given instructions through the system that are clear and in the right manner, and each student must be given the responsibility to teach two other people who do not have access, who will teach two others etc.    After one semester (roughly 3 or 4 months) the world may or may not be in a better shape literacy wise.

What comes after lit improvement?

    Basically, after literacy has been achieved, people must be taught how to work, and improve their living standards. It is insulting to people to be fed and given free money. We must let the poor people get to our standard of living on their own, and only provide help where absilutely needed.

What about Type 1?

    Type 1 will come in about fifteen to thirty years if this plan succeeds. It should come naturally, after all the world's brains have been fully utilized to harness the world's energy fully.    Type one just means we will be able to use the planet's power in its entirety. Whether this is a good thing or bad is unknown as of yet.
