  • TERRAIN MAPS FOR

    COMPETITIVE WARGAMERS

The authors of this booklet are hvo experienced wargamers and also members of the De-rby Wargames Club. Andrew Smith has been wargaming for sixteen years. His main period is Ancient Wargames but he also dabbles in other areas of the hobby. He has had many sucesses over _the years starting with his victory in the 1977 National Championships. His most recent sucesses being individual champion in the inaugural 1986 World Team Championships, followed by the Team Championship in 1987. This last of these being his tenth major competition title. Richard Hardy, ex-napoleonic champion and winner of the Armagedon ChampiOn of Champions trophy, is now more widely know for his organisation of the World Team Championships. He is still an active wargamer being runner-up in the 1986 National Wargames Championships in the Dark Ages period. Both are enthusiastic club members, but also competitively inclined. It was realised that club competition wargames would benefit from having an independent method of deciding terrain as well as the competition aspect.

As with most clubs, terrain at Derby is usually decided amicably leading to concensus -features. This restricts generalship as the unexpected is never encountered. When travelling to competitions with other clubs an independent method is even more impotant. We hope therefore that this booklet of 100 maps will supply that uncertainty factor that is missing in so many wargames and provide a suitable method of terrain selection for club visits and competitions.
