Tess About Town!

Here at Tess, we love to be part of a fresh start and new beginnings. What better way to be thankful for your new year than to have a hand in that change to make the world a better place! Why not roll up your sleeves and lend a hand? Or, put on your favorite cocktail dress and support your local charities with glamor and grace? We loved being able to help out around town in January.!

We love the arts! This month we featured Austin's own Lyric Opera with a showcase of their upcoming productions. We couldn’t miss the richness and beauty of these pieces and the glory of classical music come to life before our eyes!!

‘Sing, Sing, Sing’ in your New Year with this fun little look into our Swing Dance evening! The Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg, Texas, always puts on amazing swing dances and we attend them whenever we can. This New Year’s, we attended their Pacific-themed USO dance spectacular with our friends, what fun!!

It's been a great year here at Tess, and we are so thankful for everything that has come our way this 2012! We are especially thankful for you, our dedicated readers, for taking the time to read and enjoy what we write about each day. And last but not least, we would also like to pay tribute to those that make everything here at Tess possible: the family, our stockists, and of course all the Tess women out there that wear our clothing to perfection!!

The Look of the Tess Woman!

On the cover!!Radio personality and KVET morning show host Anne Hudson loves the ‘Ayn’ in Poppy! That bright pop of pink really lets her shine with all the pep of her sunny personality. Isn’t she fun? Read her review of Tess and hear a little about Anne’s journey on our blog!!

These winter days can be brutal! Cold temperatures make us want to stay inside and snuggle by the fire with loved ones. But alas there are some days where we must leave the comforts of our homes and brave the elements! Naturally we want to look fresh and warm even in these cold temperatures, so we looked to the beautiful, glamorous, Hollywood women of the forties for inspiration! With these glowing lips, you’re sure to be on fire wherever you go.!

Tweed has been around for centuries, but not always in the fashion world. We can thank Coco Chanel for transforming this beautiful fabric in the 1920’s into a design made for a woman. Since then the fabric has evolved to surpass not only the winter season but has now moved into spring due to its lighter weight. As many designers such as Harris Tweed, Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, and Vivienne Westwood are playing with tweed in their 2012-2013 collections, we would like to spotlight this wonderful fabric we here at Tess love so much!!

Tess Tips for Living!Ah yes, winter was upon us. Finally! Here in Texas it usually doesn’t hit actual winter temperatures until January, so we were happy to welcome them with open arms! Winter means cooler temperatures, jackets, coats, blankets, fires, and warm food that is sure to warm you to your core. A personal favorite food of Tess’ around this time of year is stew; it has so many yummy favorites all in one dish! Serve this Bourbon stew recipe with a basket of rolls, and your family will sure be racing back for more!!

Our friend Sarah taught herself how to knit and is getting better each day. Sarah is the writer for the popular blog, Rhinestones and Telephones. !Sarah has been testing out her knitting skills and has been doing a fantastic job! One of her creations was a vintage sweater that is absolutely adorable!!

The cold winter season brings that warm feeling where you want to cuddle up by the fireplace with a quilt and a hot cocoa ... and we had some fun craft ideas for you during those happy moments. We love creating beautiful things at Tess, so we celebrated a lovely lifestyle with our little recipe for handmade soap and lots of fun!!

Each January at Tess, Theresa and her husband Mike take a step back from their everyday busy lives and sit down together to begin to make their plans to conquer the next year. With her military training, she always thinks in terms of battle plans and conquering challenges! At the start of each year they make their target list and plan for the best year of their lives. Side-by-side, they plan for their future and set tangible goals that seem just out of reach. You know, the kind of thing that just asks for you to take that leap to reach it.!

Tess Inspirations!

The clean cut lines and edges of squares and rectangles are often reflected in fashion with square shouldered blazers and box-like jackets, as well as straight leg trousers. Squares reflect symmetry, a balance if you will, that many people find comforting and harmonious!

Perhaps the only thing more musically romantic than classical guitar music, is tango on the classical guitar. On Valentine’s weekend you’ll valet park at one of Austin’s premiere, breathtaking venues, and enjoy a fabulous tango show awaiting just up the stone and iron-work staircase… all for a great cause. ACGS has transformed school-based classical guitar education in Austin.. Support this award-winning program at Guitars Under the Stars, and allow us to say a personal “Thank you” at Austin’s most elegant Valentine gala. The event will be at One World Theater on February 9 at 6:30. Tickets are $125.!

Each year the Austin Modern Home Tour features spectacular homes from some of Austin’s premier Modern Architects and a selection of modern homes currently on the Austin market. These homes represent a forward movement to introduce more modern designs to Austin as well as provide visitors a chance to experience the modern lifestyle of a home in Austin. Tickets are $25 or $30 at the door on February 2. !

The Blanton Museum of Art began as the University Art Museum in 1963. For fifty years, the museum has grown and flourished, inspiring students and visitors of all ages. We invite you to an evening in celebration of the art and the people who have made possible this cultural gem for Texas. The event will be at the Blanton Museum of Art on February 16. !
