I just remember thinking “Oh my gosh, how terrible, this guy’s just thrown

coffee at me, how rude!”

Katie Piper was a beautiful young woman with a career as a model and TV presenter. Then she suffered a horrific attack, arranged by her boyfriend. Acid was thrown in her face, causing dangerous third degree burns and blindness in one eye. Since that day, Katie had more than 30 operations.

As a

model and TV presenter, Katie had a wonderful life where she was very happy with. On facebook she came into contact with Danny Lynch. He did the same work that she was doing. It began very innocent but later on they started dating. Katie had no idea of what was going to happen, because there were no signs. So she kept continuing dating.At a point Katie started noticing that things were going wrong. Things weren't adding up. "I saw a jealous streak, possessiveness, an anger

problem, and little things about his life didn’t add up. He told me he was working, doing certain things, and yet he didn’t really have a job." At one night, in a London Hotel, she was raped by her boyfriend. Although, she didn't go to the police. She was too scared. "He held me in the room, all night, attacking me and threatening me that if I told anybody he would kill me, and kill my flatmates. He knew where I lived, where I parked my car. I was terrified."Things were totally going to the wrong way and it wasn't the end. On the 31th of March 2008 something really terrible happened. Katie was on the phone with her boyfriend and he said that she had to come out of the house. She did. When she was walking on the street she saw a guy crossing towards her. "He had made eye contact with me, and his arms were locked out in front of him, with a cup in his hands. I thought he was begging, so I said to Danny ‘Hold on a second’. I didn’t explain why, and he didn’t ask me why, and I put the phone to my ear and went to get money from my bag, and as I did, this guy threw the acid in my face."

It was a life changing moment. Nobody had expected it. Although it was a vague incident you don't want to remember, she still knows everything from beginning till the end. "Initially I just remember thinking “Oh my gosh, how terrible, this guy’s just thrown coffee at me, how rude!” I even thought things like “I’m going to have to go inside now and change my top.” Just stupid stuff. And then a few seconds after, the pain was just surging through my body, and I thought maybe it had been bleach. And then, when the pain just overtook, and started to reduce my vision, I knew it was acid. I thought perhaps I was on fire, because my whole body was in pain, not just the areas that are scarred."

Katie has been through a lot of things after the terrible incident. It was hard for her to see her ruined face and she didn't want to believe that this had really

happened to her. She even thought that it was all a dream. "So I got the mirror and just held it up, and initially I just thought “There’s been a massive mistake. There’s either someone stood behind me or they’ve stuck a picture on it, or the mirror’s broken, because that’s not me. That’s not even a woman.”

Nowadays Katie Piper is a happy women again with hopes and dreams. She accepted what happened to her and decided to let the past behind so she can live and focus on the future. Katie even started her own foundation: The Katie Piper Foundation. This foundation is aimed at raising awareness of the plight of victims of burns and other serious injuries. She has also written a book named 'Beautiful by Katie Piper', where she described what beauty really is. Katie Piper is truly a beautiful woman, on the inside and outside!
