Test eExam User Guide


Introduction This user guide provides the steps for preparing to sit a Test eExam with online supervision using software called Examity. You must sit a Test eExam to:

● ensure your device is compatible with Examity ● ensure you have access to all the platforms required to take the eExam ● create your individual profile within Examity (you must do this to be able to access your official

eExam on exam day).

The Test eExam is a short 10-minute general knowledge exam with six questions. It won’t be graded and is only for the purpose of preparing you and your device for your official eExam.

Note: This user guide applies only for your Test eExam. A different guide will be published in the week beginning 2 March 2020, which will tell you how to set up and prepare for your official eExam.

How remote eExams work Your eExam session will be recorded and you’ll be monitored through your webcam. The recording will be reviewed by Examity and Monash to ensure academic integrity. You’ll have an online supervisor who will provide detailed instructions at the start of your exam and will be there throughout the exam in case you need any help.

In order to run the remote supervision software, you’re required to set up an individual profile within Examity.

Prepare your computer Before working through the steps in this guide, you’ll need to set up your computer. To minimise the risk of your Test eExam connection failing. To sit your Test eExam, you can connect with or without a VPN – just choose the option that gives you the most stable internet connection. For instructions on how to prepare your computer, see device and system specifications (www.monash.edu/remote-exams).

Create a profile and schedule your Test eExam

Create a profile in Examity You need to create your individual Examity profile so that you can take the Test eExam and sit your official eExam later. You only need to create your Examity profile once.

Step 1 (optional): If it provides you with a more stable connection, log in through your Monash VPN. For instructions, see https://www.monash.edu/esolutions/network/vpn#connect and follow the steps under “Connecting to the VPN service using multi-factor authentication (MFA)”.

Step 2: Click on this link https://eassessment.monash.edu/mod/lti/view.php?id=2102 and log in through Okta using your Monash username (full Monash email address) and password. You should now see your Examity dashboard.

Step 3: On the My Profile tab on the dashboard, click the Update ID tile to set up your Examity profile. You’ll see the My Profile page. Some information will be pre-filled, so you’ll only need to do the following:

a) Enter your phone number. b) Select your time zone. c) Present either your Monash M-Pass (student ID

card) or a government-issued photo ID to Examity. You can either take a photo of the ID with the webcam on your computer or upload an existing photo of the ID from a device. You must have the same ID at the official eExam session.

d) Choose and answer 3 security questions. e) Click Save.

The Exam Requirements progress indicator should now have a next to Time Zone, examiSHOW and examiKNOW.

Step 4: On the My Profile page, click Computer Requirements Check (near the top right corner on the Entry Requirements tab). Examity will run a quick check and show you the results on a new browser tab. You can close this tab once the check is complete.

Schedule your Test eExam with Examity Step 1: On the navigation bar, click Schedule Exam, then:

a) under Course Name, click the dropdown box and select the test course.

b) under Exam Name, click the dropdown box and select the day you want to sit your Test eExam.

A calendar and a table of session times will appear.

Step 2: a) Select the date and time that best suits you for

sitting the Test eExam. You can only choose one. b) Click Schedule, to confirm your session.

You’ll see a confirmation page displaying the words “Appointment scheduled successfully”. This confirms your Test eExam has been scheduled.

Okay, the next step is to sit your scheduled Test eExam. Fifteen minutes before the scheduled start time, make sure your computer and exam room are set up according to our exam rules and you’re all ready to go. The instructions for Sitting your Test eExam are below.

Sit your scheduled Test eExam Note: Don’t close any of the Examity or GoToMeeting windows until you’ve successfully submitted your exam. Before you sit your Test eExam, make sure you have everything you need, including the photo ID you used to set up your Examity profile. See preparing for your remote eExams (www.monash.edu/remote-exam).

Connect to your online supervisor and sit your Test eExam

Step 2: To take your Test eExam, click this link https://eassessment.monash.edu/mod/lti/view.php?id=2102 and log in through Okta using your Monash username (full Monash email address) and password. You should now see your Examity dashboard.

Step 3: a) On the Start Exam tab, click the Begin scheduled

exam icon. You’ll see a table containing your scheduled Test eExam.

b) Locate your scheduled test session and click the green play button to begin.

There may be a short delay as Examity prepares your session. Once the session is ready, you’ll see the Welcome to the ID verification process page. If you arrive earlier than 15 minutes for your exam appointment, you may have to wait a few minutes for your online supervisor to become available.

Step 4: As soon as your online supervisor is available, a Proceed button will appear. Click Proceed. A pop-up should appear to prompt you to download GoToMeeting. You’ll need to enter full screen for full visibility.

Step 5: To install GoToMeeting, click Download the app and follow the onscreen instructions.

Step 6: A pop-up will appear with an Exam Session ID number. Note down the Exam Session ID (this reference number can be given to Examity support if the session ends unexpectedly during the exam).

Step 7: Your online supervisor will send you an invitation for you to become the presenter for the session. A screen will pop up with a Share button. Click Share. Your screen will be shared with the online supervisor. Your online supervisor will:

● provide you with instructions on how to enable your microphone and webcam within GoToMeeting

● give you a short introduction and take you through a series of verification steps.

Step 8: Present your photo ID to the online supervisor (this needs to be the same photo ID you uploaded when you created your Examity profile).

Step 9: Conduct a scan of your exam room and desk using your webcam. Once this step is done, you can hide (but don’t close) the window containing your online supervisor.

Step 10: Return to the Examity Start Exam page and click Next .

Step 11: Answer one of the three security questions you set up previously in your Examity profile.

Step 12: a) Read and accept all the user agreements. b) Click Next.

Step 13: Click Begin Exam. You’ll be taken to your eExam landing page.

Step 14: Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Start Exam. You’ll be prompted to enter a password before you can start your exam – your online supervisor will do this for you. You’ll receive a request for temporary remote keyboard and mouse access, so your online supervisor can enter the password for you.

Step 15: Click Give Control and wait for the online supervisor to enter your password. Don’t move your mouse or press any keys during this time. After the online supervisor has entered the password, all controls will be returned to you immediately. A yellow dialogue box saying “You have controls.” should appear at the top of the screen. The online supervisor should not gain control of your mouse or keyboard after this, unless you request technical assistance.

Step 16: As soon as you’re ready to begin, click Start attempt to sit the Test eExam.

Conclude your Test eExam session Step 17: Once you’ve finished your exam, submit it by clicking Submit all and finish.

Step 18: After submitting your Test eExam, a green screen will appear to confirm your submission. Your online supervisor will check if there are any post-exam instructions and they will guide you to conclude your session.

You’ll see a notification once your online supervisor has ended your Examity session. This indicates that you’ve completed your Test eExam and can close all your browser windows.
