SUMMARY OF THE GAMESUMMARY OF THE GAME

The name "Tetris" is derived from the Greek numerical prefix "Tetra-," meaning "of four" or "having four." This is because all of the pieces used in

Tetris are made up of four segments arranged in different shapes. Tetris is a computer puzzle game in which various shapes each made of four squares are falling down a well. The user turns the pieces around and moves them

left or right in order to arrange them on top of the other. When a solid line of squares is made from edge to edge, the line dissolves and all the pieces

move down by one square. When the lines dissolve points are won, when the well fills up the game ends. Players work hard to keep the well as empty as

possible, but as the game progresses the pieces fall faster and faster making that harder.

THE DEVELOPERSTHE DEVELOPERS

Tetris originated in Russia as a puzzle video game and was invented by Alexey Pajitnov in June

1985. Dmitry Pavlovsky assisted him helping to develop the popular game we have today. At the

time the game was never patented, as intellectual property rights were not established

for private individuals in Russia. Although a simple game, Tetris has dealt with a lot

of legal battle because of ownership and rights issue. By 1986 Tetris had made its way into the

United States.

Alexey Pajitnov had already published and sold several psychology based games whilst Dmitry

Pavlovsky had written computer games for mainframes.

In Britain and parts of Europe a software company called Andromeda circulated the

game. The independent company was interested in buying the full exclusive rights of the game

and tried to contact Pajitnov.

GAME FORMATGAME FORMAT

Since its conceptualization in 1985, Tetris has been a popular computer game all over Moscow

and soon created a strong following among gamers from overseas. It was adapted to a

number of versions in more ways than one and the difference mainly lies on the background

graphics of the game. It was one of the hottest computer games at that time and has been an

instant hit. Gamers of all levels, of all ages, loved the simplicity and strategy behind the

game. More people get hooked and addicted to the game and its popularity quickly spread.

This game has been released on nearly every video game console and arcade system, as well as many other electronic devices like

phones and calculators. Apple also got interested with the Tetris

game and created versions of the game that are compatible with its operating system.

Nintendo also bought the handheld and non-Japanese rights of the game. Nintendo released Tetris for their NES system and their hand-held Game Boy system. Nintendo's Game Boy Tetris became arguably the most well-known version of Tetris, selling over 33 million

copies. Lawsuits between Nintendo and another company would carry on until 1993. As Nintendo systems developed, Tetris Attack and Tetris 64 for the Super Nintendo become highly rated games and Nintendo began to rapidly produce Many other variations of the game for a range of systems.
