For Immediate Release: May 26, 2015 Texas House to Debate Abortion Coverage Ban Austin, TX—On Tuesday, the Texas House will hear a bill, SB 575, that would ban abortion coverage from health insurance exchanges. The Senate has already passed the bill. The House must pass SB 575 before midnight on Wednesday or the bill will die. The bill does not have any exceptions for fetal anomalies or pregnancies that are the result of rape or incest. Heather Busby, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Texas, made the following statement in opposition to SB 575: “The politicians who support this bill don’t want abortion to be legal at all. Instead of making abortion illegal, they’re creating barriers and pushing bans on abortion coverage to make it unaffordable and inaccessible. Many things can happen in pregnancy that are beyond a person’s control, so it’s important to make sure everyone has coverage for the health care they may need. It is wrong for politicians to single out a legal medical procedure just because they are personally opposed to it.” ### Contact: Zoey Lichtenheld, [email protected] , o: (512) 462-1661, m: (512) 920-2046
