• Look for words in the passage that have a similar meaning.
• These words are called synonyms.• List three synonyms for the word
hate.

• Look for words that have the meaning opposite to that of the unknown word.

• Use a dictionary to find out the meaning of the word.
• No, you can’t do this on the benchmark, but if it is a vocabulary question on the benchmark one of the other strategies should work.
