reportedly was on hisway to meet Hugowhen things turnedsour on the on ramp.

Brian might say: “I came to grief onthe clover leaf.”

The Bettencourts, father (with thebook) and son are heading for the Alpsnext month. They’re going to hook upwith Chuck DuVivier after he and acouple of others (Picker, Herm, DonWalker, Pippa and Scott Dinger) finishup their games in the Alps aboutOktoberfest time (mid-September) inMunich.

Vern lightened up the fine R bikewith a Remus muffler system. (The1967 Buick Electra behind Vern, isn’this.) Newer members might not knowthat Vern is a famous test pilot. Foryears, he held the land speed recordflying that monster that is out front ofthe Aerospace Museum in Balboa Park.

You know that Wednesday evening isdinner at the Diner on Ruffin Rd., justbelow Giovanni’s. That’s where MarthaSchreiner met up with our editor,Fulton Martin, to plot her new com-puter system. Martha and Hugo arejust back from a month in the Alps.Hugo rode at Lago de Garda, whileMartha took art lessons.

Mark Ruhm, left, has made this neatdevice (from a drawing by VernHenderson) to help you fill your gastank. It slips over the nozzle and hookson the little ring on the nozzle, so therubber hose stays up without youholding it. He made a bunch of them,and offered them to riders atGiovanni’s. Denis Duchene thinks itmight work on a Yamaha.

Old friend Steve Hill back now atthe service desk at SD BMW MC. He’sfairly well known on Palomar Moun-tain. Before the kids were born, he andhis wife, Erin, rode matching DaytonaOrange R90S’s.

How come Mike Moore has so manytoys? Rex Neilson, impatiently waitingfor his R1200 GS to get fixed, is tryingMike’s Ducati. Mike, left. Gary andNoah Kepple think the Ducati is OK.

Every Wednesday evening at theDiner on Ruffin, Bob Ingram chal-lenges the staff to make a betterbanana split than they did the weekbefore.

Our Road Captain thinks her R1200GS would be nicer with a bigger windscreen. (Herm thinks it’s nicer with nowind screen at all). So she’s checkingwith John Sullivan about his bigscreen.

Don Picker got aBMW reflective suit forhis wife, Peggie. Then

he got one for himself. It’s supposed toreflect the sun and stay cooler.

Wouldn’t you know it. As soon asthey spotted the camera, they lined upneatly. Hugo Schreiner and GaryWalker and Ken Shortt and DanToporoski outside Margarita’s onNewport. So it must be Friday.

Always happy, our Social Chair, FridaSilveira with Ariel, got the party startedat South of the Border in Mira Mesa,with Cuca and Gary Walker, right.

There was a big crowd that night,with club secretary, Dick Sackett in theforeground, his wife Louise and BillEdwards at right.

Now, there’s Dick waving in thedistance, and Cuca and Gary Walker,left, and Henri and Dottie Warren,right.

Then there was the famous poolparty at the Walker’s hacienda. Grillwonders galore from the expert chef,Tony Cash. Tony’s wife and son gracedthe event.

Ask Tony how he became an experton the Alps.

And in the water were Pat and JohnWagner’s granddaughters, Morea andCiana. The kids are visiting from theBay area.

And Ken and Pat Shortt’s son, RalphKing and his wife Shirley, and Tylerand Trevor, all from San Francisco.

Can you believe this. HugoSchreiner on a new 999S Ducati? Lookhow small it is. It came from the newlyrelocated store in Escondido, justunder the overpass from BMW Motor-cycles of North County.

Hugo, center, got the Duck all theway up to Mother’s atop PalomarMountain, where he compared noteswith Brian Muldoon and MarkPohlson. Can you believe, Pohlson wason four wheels?

But, doesn’t this road lead to FatIvors Rib Rack? Not to worry. SharonKepple, left, and Richard Amiton andGary Kepple, did make it to Ivors, withHerm drooling all the way.

Don’t worry. No tickets from thisrider, none other than our editor,Fulton Martin, on an enforcement Rbike from SD BMW MC. He rode it tothe club board meeting at Jimmy’s onMidway last month.

All BMW riders, and north countyfolk especially, are concerned aboutBill Foeppel, who was on staff at NorthCounty and is now very ill.

NNN is the motto of KeithPalmateer. That’s “never north ofNimitz.” He runs big job painting crewson Point Loma when he’s not outplaying on his LT or GS Adventure.

The meeting was called to order at1900, 15 August 2006, by PresidentBob Miller.

Bob welcomed speaker Gary McGeeof The Ride for Kids, plus Mike Mooreand Hugo Schreiner who will givetheir impressions of their recent toursof the Ducati factory in Bologna, Italy.

The binnacle list consists of TomMooney and Don Picker.

New (and former) member GlennThomson introduced himself. Glennrode to the meeting on a newlyacquired R1100 RT.

Vice President Brian Muldoonreported that there are 332 activemembers.

Secretary Dick Sackett reported thatthe Executive Board voted to acceptthe minutes of the July ExecutiveBoard Meeting as published in theAugust issue of Road Signs. (There wasno July General Membership meeting;the Beach Picnic took its place.)

Treasurer Ken Shortt reported$7807.27 in the club account on 31July 2006. He further reported $300income, $274.29 expenses, and $25.71net income for the month of May2006; net profit for calendar year2006: $2089.14; cash in account as of15 August: $7146.55. Ken also re-ported that the deposit for the BigBear rally provided by the club hasbeen repaid.
