Nick Chase Memorial ScholarshipThis scholarship is presented by Mike and Lisa Chase in memory of their son, Nick. Nick was an automotive technology student at Pittsburg State University. Established in 2013, this scholarship is for an undergraduate student who shares Nick’s passion and commitment to all things automotive.

Pete J. Holman Diesel Outstanding Senior AwardThe Pete J. Holman Award is the highest award given to a four-year diesel student. In 2008 the faculty decided to begin distinguishing a top Diesel graduating senior. Pete Holman graduated from PSU in 1963 from the College of Business. He had a very successful career at Caterpillar Corporation working heavily in the mining group. Mr. Holman is well known internationally for his expertise with Caterpillar mining equipment. In 1993, Mr. Holman began serving on the four-year automotive advisory board, and is the person who can be most attributed to the rebirth and growth of PSU’s Diesel and Heavy Equipment curriculum. He has been instrumental in guiding the curriculum, advising the department, and guiding graduates into a career path at Caterpillar Corporation.

Construction Alumni Association Scholarship The PSU Construction Alumni Association was established in 1988 by a group of PSU construction alumni in an effort to provide scholarships for PSU construction students. The scholarships are primarily funded through three annual golf tournaments: one each in Wichita, Kansas City and Pittsburg. Each of these tournaments are supported by PSU alumni and a large number of construction and construction related companies.

Dennis V. Alvarez ScholarshipThe Dennis V. Alvarez Scholarship is in honor of Dennis Alvarez. Mr. Alvarez earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a minor in History in 1968. He supported Pittsburg State University as a member of the Mechanical Engineering Technology Program Industry Advisory Committee during his distinguished career with the Boeing Co. The scholarship is awarded to an Engineering Technology major with a preference to students from Mulvane High School or students with a physical handicap.

Lucy Ann and Herbert A. Sheldon ScholarshipThe Lucy Ann and Herbert A. Sheldon Scholarship was established in 1991 with preference to female students in mathematics or engineering technology. Mrs. Sheldon graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in 1927 and taught mathematics, physical education, and Latin. Her husband was employed by the Phillips Petroleum company for forty years.

Dr. George Graham Plastics Technology ScholarshipThe Dr. George Graham Plastics Technology Scholarship was established in 2011 by Mr. Bob Tyler (‘75) to honor Dr. Graham’s vision and dedication to the PSU Plastics program for more than 34 years. As the first professor in Plastics at PSU he helped developed the program from its infancy and eventually gain accreditation.

James A. Doti ScholarshipMr. Doti was born in 1925 and received a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from Kansas State Teachers College in 1952. In 1974 he established Jadcore, Inc. in Terre Haute, IN, a recycling company to salvage plastic by–product waste. This scholarship was established by his children in honor of his 70th birthday. He passed away in 2016.

James R. Johnson ScholarshipSon of PSU alumni, Robert (Bob) Johnson, Sr., Jim Johnson owned a plastics business in Tulsa, selling turf irrigation material in Oklahoma, and Arkansas. In 1996, at the age of 39, he died in a car accident on the Indian Nation Turnpike going back to Tulsa. Bob and Betty endowed this scholarship in his memory to be awarded to students in the Plastics Engineering Technology program.

Maurice V. Reagan Memorial ScholarshipMr. Reagan was an Electrical Engineering graduate of Kansas University in 1930. He worked for Atkinson Armature in Pittsburg, KS and Chanute Ash Grove Lime and Cement Co. He retired as Chief Electrical Engineer in 1976 and passed away in 1980. This scholarship was established by Mrs. Neural Regan and daughter Barbara Reagan Fern in his memory.

Bob Roberts Scholarship for the Printing Management Fund Mr. Roberts was a faculty member in the department from 1966 to 1996. He earned a bachelors degree from Arkansas State University and a masters degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburg. The Bob Roberts Scholarship was established in 1996 and recognizes accomplishments in scholastic endeavors, dedication in pursuing knowledge and service to the department and the potential for success in the industry. This scholarship recognizes a management major with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Carole and Richard Jacques Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1996 and honors a dedicated teacher known to most as “Jake.” Richard Jacques received a BSED from PSU in 1957 and an MS in 1958. He joined the faculty at PSU in 1957 as an Assistant Instructor and retired as a full Professor in 1995. He taught photomechanical processes and color reproduction courses. He also taught the first offset printing course at PSU. This scholarship recognizes a student’s scholastic accomplishments and potential for future success. A 3.0 GPA is required.

Edna Lucille Vehlow Printing Scholarship FundThis scholarship was established in 1996 at the request of Edna Vehlow. She attended PSU where she learned the printing trade. While working towards her Masters Degree she held a teaching fellowship in Psychology. She worked for newspapers in Pittsburg and Junction City before purchasing and editing The Ulysses and The Nebraska Dispatch. She sold the newspapers and moved to Topeka in the 1940s and was an Educational Therapist at the Menninger Foundation. She worked for the Topeka Capital –Journal until her retirement and passed away in 1995.

Forrest and Emma Penney ScholarshipForrest Penney began his career with PSU as a faculty member in 1948. He was the Chairperson of Industrial Arts and Education from 1967 to 1978. He received a BSED from PSU in 1941 and a MS in 1948. This scholarship was started in his honor.

Ben S. Vineyard Memorial ScholarshipThis scholarship honors Ben Vineyard who came to PSU in 1963 as a Professor and Chairman of the Technology Education Department. He was the author of several vocational education books. He retired in 1982 and passed away in 1992.

Leland D. and Emajeane S. Boone Memorial ScholarshipMr. Boone was the Director of the Vocational Technical Institute (VTI) at PSU from 1954 until his retirement in 1978. As director, he was recognized as an outstanding leader in vocational education on both a state and national level because of the accomplishments of the VTI in preparing young men and women for employment. This scholarship was established in his honor.

College of Technology ScholarshipThis scholarship receives donations from faculty and alumni through the annual Phonathon. It continues to help many College of Technology students in their pursuit of a college degree.

Curtis and Karen Spicer Finch Scholarship Curt and Karen Finch have spent most of their long careers as educators and each of them has been honored with a PSU Alumni Award for Meritorious Achievement. They have established two PSU scholarships, one in each of their fields, to encourage others to become educators. Curt’s undergraduate studies focused on automotive technology as well as vocational and technical teacher preparation. Over the years he has become internationally known as a professor, scholar, author, and leader in improving the vocational and technical education field. This College of Technology scholarship provides sorely needed recognition and assistance to Automotive Technology students who plan to teach.

Dr. Ronald R. McKee Scholarship The Dr. Ronald R. McKee Scholarship was created by his wife, Pat McKee. Ron recently passed away in 2019, and Pat created this scholarship in his honor. To continue Ron’s legacy and passion for technology and learning, Pat created this to benefit students within the School of Construction and the Engineering Technology Department.

Glen E. and Shirley R. Hastings ScholarshipThis scholarship was established through the Glen Hastings estate. Mr. Hastings received a BA Degree from PSU and was a Vocational Instructor in the Carpentry Department at Haskell University. Mr. and Mrs. Hastings both passed away in 2003.

James V. Melton ScholarshipThis scholarship was established to honor Dr. Melton’s 22 years of work at Pittsburg State University. Dr. Melton passed away in 1976.

John Langford Memorial ScholarshipMr. Langford was a 1958 chemistry major. He served on the PSU Foundation Board of Trustees and also the Technology Advisory Council. He was very devoted to PSU and was selected as a Meritorious Achievement Award Recipient in 1998. He passed away in 2004.

Lois Hosier & Jean Cruce Women in Technology ScholarshipThe Lois Hosier & Jean Cruce Women in Technology Scholarship was endowed in 2019 by Dave and Susan Vandelinde in memory of Lois Hosier and Jean Cruce. These women were both leaders in their families and profoundly independent for their time. Recipients are female students in the College of Technology who graduated from a high school in Kansas.

M.L. Lee and Noretta Caldwell Technology ScholarshipThe Caldwell Scholarship was established in honor of Merritt “Lee” and Noretta Caldwell, lifetime residents of southeast Kansas. Mr. Caldwell is a second generation carpenter/builder and after learning the trade from his father he took over Freeto Construction which at the time was the largest construction company in the state of Kansas. The Caldwells retired in 1976 and started Golden Crown Properties in 1978. After sending his daughter, Barbara, through the College of Technology in the 1970’s, they knew that Pittsburg State University was a great place. The Caldwells have been long time supporters of the University in many academic areas and in 2009, they decided to leave their legacy within the College of Technology by establishing the Merritt “Lee” and Noretta Caldwell Scholarship. Their scholarship was designed to encourage average students out of high school to excel within the College of Technology.
