It has been 20 years since CRCA's Annual Conference was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This year CRCA returnsto historic Halifax to celebrate its' 57th Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting from May 28 to 30,2016.

Business Sessions 1 - Roofing 101Wendy Fraser, CRCA Technical ManagerThere have been significant advancements in the roofing industry over the pastnumber of years. The introduction of new materials, systems and technologies havechanged in the way we design and build roofs. Today, sustainable andenvironmentally sound roof construction are as important as technical performance.Architects, regulators and building owners need to know how to design and buildroofs that will achieve these objectives. This presentation will highlight the roofingoptions available to roof designers and owners, and provide guidance on how toselect and use current roofing products and systems that will deliver long term andsustainable performance.
Business Session 2 - Wind Design and CSAPeter Kalinger, CRCA Technical DirectorDesigning roofs to stay in place during wind events is one of the most importantrequirements of roof construction. The influence of dynamic wind forces on roofbehaviour is complex and needs to be carefully considered in their design. CRCA, incollaboration with its industry partners and the National Research Council ofCanada, has been investigating wind performance of roofs through the industryconsortium SIGDERS for the past two decades. This ground breaking research hasculminated in the development of leading edge consensus wind standards that arenow referenced in Canadian building codes. This presentation will provideinformation on how and why these standards were developed, their significance interms of roof performance, and their impact on roof design, construction and codecompliance.

Tall Ship Silva
This schooner was built in Sweden in 1939. During the first two decades of herlife she was traded with general cargo under sail and motor in WesternEurope. In the 60's, she was refitted as a bulk freighter. She continued coastaltrading in Sweden until 1994 and in 2001, Silva was towed to North Americawhere restoration was undertaken.
