JANUS CONSULTING DEVELOPING PERFORMANCE PEOPLE
8.30 am COFFEE AND REGISTRATION 8.45 am WELCOME 9.00 am EMPOWERING LEADERSHIP: THE 15 DISCIPLINES How can an EA plan for personal and
team career advancement, beyond a
manager’s expectations, especially if the
manager believes the EA has already
reached the peak of what an assistant’s
career can offer? One answer involves
‘The 15 Disciplines’ that lie at the heart
of a productive professional relationship.
Presenter Stephen Scott | THE 15 DISCIPLINES
9.30am THE FIRST TEAM OF TWO: EMPOWERING OUR TEAM AND ENRICHING MY CAREERAlignment to purpose, mutual trust,
genuine equality and transparent
communication are the hallmarks of
this team’s professional relationship.
They have used The 15 Disciplines
to construct their partnership and
build their consultancy in leadership
development for independent schools
around Australia. They understand
the confidence, esteem and leadership
needs of EA’s as they emerge from their
traditional roles.
Presenters Stephen Scott and Samantha Holzberger
| THE 15 DISCIPLINES
10.10am THE STUDIO: ASSISTANT? EXECUTIVE? ASSOCIATE?
Should the profession revisit the
classic career path to better define
abilities and aspirations enabling a
path to a contemporary partnership
while preserving the more respected
stepping-off points? How? Beginning the
conversation, engaging the stakeholders
and setting an agenda. What did our first
Team of Two recognize in each other to
enable each to say, “One is the business
and the other runs the business”? Is this
all transferable?
10.30am MORNING COFFEE 11.00am Q&A ON THE EMPOWERING RELATIONSHIP with Stephen Scott and Samantha
Holzberger from The 15 Disciplines
11.30am MY PROFESSIONAL PERSONA: A SELF-EVALUATION AUDIT AND THE PRINCIPLESIn syndicates, each delegate can
complete a specifically written audit
aimed at applying the strengths of The
15 Disciplines approach indicating
confidentially what disciplines are
operating or could operate well, what
outcomes could be improved in so doing
and what organizational alternatives or
deficiencies may prevent their proper
application. Which disciplines can we
implement in the short term? Which
other disciplines might we institute in
the midterm?
12.30pm NETWORKING LUNCH 1.30pm THE SECOND TEAM OF TWO: “PROFESSIONAL CONVERSATIONS: BECOMING A DREAM TEAM”
The EA role is becoming more
representational. She is often being
required to ‘be’ the Principal, in the
first instance at least, in responsibility
portfolios such as
• Team culture
• Enabling greater effectiveness from
Executive staff
• The development of new and
advantageous systems
• The development of good functional
communication and protocols to
support a team of two
What conversations should be held to
establish these expectations properly?
How does the ‘team of two’ draw lines
of demarcation to define where the
EA’s responsibility ends and where the
Principal’s begins? If the role is becoming
too big, how does the EA initiate a
conversation to better distribute these
responsibilities without being seen to
be ‘falling short’ in her capacity to be
the EA?
Presenters Kym McLeod, EA to the Principal, and
Peter Wells, Principal, Chairo Christian
School, Victoria
2.45pm AFTERNOON TEA 3.15pm THE LYCEUM DISCUSSIONAll delegates will have been given the
opportunity to “pose a question or
express an opinion for discussion” on
one of the following topics: emotional
intelligence, wellness, resilience,
innovation, leadership, proper budget
management and support, career
development or career paths to become
the professional one wants to be as a
consequence of an annual review. These
issues will be the subject matter of this
plenary session.
