The areas targeted for achieving major elements of theplan, enrollment, institutional image, facilities, andassessment are being given priority attention. PLAN 2021 has charted the course for the future ofFinlandia University. As the university proceeds withenthusiasm and vigor, it is essential to note that a crucialcomponent is providing the plan with an accompanimentof resources. Finlandia’s goal of a sustainable enrollmentof 750 students by 2021 is based on a steady growthrequiring a continued emphasis on launching newacademic and co-curricular programs as well asemphasizing and enhancing traditionally strongprograms in Finlandia’s two schools and two colleges.

For the trek of enrollment growth to be effective andefficient, new funds must be generated beyond thosewhich increased tuition revenue will contribute. To attractand retain new students and the faculty, staff, facilities, and programmatic elements which serve this growingpopulation of learners, there comes with it a need toimprove several aspects of the university. Included inthose needs are:

• Classroom modernization• Technology services• Laboratory enhancements• Funds for initiating new academic and co-curricular

programs• Increasing scholarships to help keep Finlandia

affordable for those who comprise the majority ofour student body profile

Meeting those needs is a natural antecedent for the pathof growth. With this challenge at hand, it is important torealize that such challenges create opportunities. Thiscase for support is about opportunity.

Opportunity for supporting PLAN 2021 lies in a measurethat is primarily two-fold in nature. Enhancing the

Finlandia Fund which provides support for annualinstitutional scholarships, academic and co-curricularprogrammatic needs, laboratory and facilityenhancements, and general operating needs isimperative. While vital, increasing revenue from theFinlandia Fund alone will not solely support PLAN 2021.There is a real need to generate larger dollars for thekind of physical plant, new programs, and supportsystems that will accompany students along their path ofmatriculation to a degree to which this gem of auniversity in the Upper Peninsula has not previously seen.

Part two of resourcing PLAN 2021 involves new andexciting opportunities for lifelong and new donors tofirmly establish individual and family legacies throughpermanent naming gifts. Legacy name recognition byvirtue of sharing good fortune to the benefit of others isa passing forward of belief in our mission of FinlandiaUniversity as a learning community of academicexcellence, spiritual growth, and service. The mission ofFinlandia is far-reaching and not temporary. So too is thefoundational element of establishing a legacy.

Legacy namings will ultimately help Finlandia establishitself as ‘something more.’ Excelling in education andresearch, attracting and retaining a diverse student body, faculty, and staff, as well as creating lasting cultural andeconomic impact, are collectively integral aspects ofFinlandia’s highest aspirations. We sincerely believe whatFinlandia offers now and in the future is worth developingand preserving. As we envision a transformationaluniversity, one that will see Finlandia as its best self, welook to you as our donors to journey with us. We needyour help in making this dream become reality.

The following pages present the opportunities availablefor creating permanent lifetime legacies. As it is with theestablishment of a legacy, some wish to leave their mark

of generosity. Others wish for the legacy of naming tosignify those influential, near and dear, or simply by virtueof love itself. The expressions of such are truly noble andinfluential by what gifts of this level do to honor those whotraveled paths leading to lives well-lived. It is with hopethat those who will study, achieve remarkableaccomplishments, and change the lives of others as aresult of the impact of the Finlandia experience will indeedlive on by their own merit held forthright in recognition ofwhat your contribution to establishing legacies has donefor them. Join us now in this remarkable journey that willmake a positive difference of uncommon attention to thevirtues of lives well-led and well-lived.

SIGNIFICANCE OF NAMING GIFTSTradition in higher education has established a practiceof placing the names of distinguished individuals onfacilities and spaces as a means of recognition foraccomplishments, meritorious service, memorials, andgenerosity of wealth. The naming of a building, space, location, program, or even an entire school or college isconsidered one of the most significant honors that canbe bestowed by Finlandia University. Through theestablishment of naming gifts, legacies of persons andfamilies will live in perpetuity. We kindly ask that youconsider the options available on the following pagesand make a heartfelt decision to join us in celebration ofFinlandia’s bright future by virtue of your investment insuccess.

OPPORTUNITIESThere is a large number of naming gift opportunities andan array of possibilities for persons/families withparticular affinities. These range from; entire buildings, college and school naming as the largest units ofacademics at Finlandia, laboratories, computer labs, anew learning commons, conference rooms, residencehalls, new state of the art fitness center, and many otherpossibilities. In addition, named annual institutionalscholarships with 3-year and 5-year options areavailable. These will also signify donor commitments tothe Legacy aspect of the Finlandia Fund.
