A Lasting Impression?
Imagine being on a
flight with a very
drunk and abusive
fellow passenger. It
happened to Dr. Billy
Graham once. A man
on his flight became
very angry when the
cabin crew refused to
serve him any more alcohol.
They tried to pacify him but he became
louder and more abusive. Eventually, an
attendant pointed out to the man that the
famous evangelist was sitting a few rows
in front of him.
At that, the man stumbled to his feet, and
made his way to where Billy Graham was
sitting. “Are you really Billy Graham?”
he asked, and Billy Graham quietly
acknowledged that he was. With a great
big smile the man grabbed Billy’s hand
and said, “Your sermons have had a big
influence in my life!”
With a testimony like that, who needs
publicity?
Billy Graham told this story himself, and
then made the telling point, that it’s one
thing to hear the truth and quite another
to put it into practice.
Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit
down someday and read the book of
James in the New Testament. It is one of
the most practical, down-to-earth books
in the Bible. Written by a Christian
leader, and it warns about listening but
not doing.
One well-known preacher said that
reading the book of James was like
opening the door of a blast furnace.
James insists on a belief that behaves,
that what we believe should and must
determine how we behave on a daily
basis.
Winston Churchill wrote “Men
occasionally stumble over the truth, but
most of them pick themselves up and
hurry off as if nothing had happened.”
Does the eternal truth of God which we
hear from the Bible set us free or does
that truth simply tickle our eyes for a few
moments and as Churchill put it, “hurry
off as if nothing had happened.” Does
the truth leave us unchanged and
unwilling to change?

WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP February! The month of hearts and flowers, valentines and expressions of love. February is also the month of the Women’s Fellowship Valentine Bake Sale! On Sunday, February 7, Women’s Fellowship will host the Fellowship Coffee after each service. All manner of tempting treats will be available for purchase for you to enjoy with your coffee and to take home to savor later. You may want to buy a baked treat to give to your valentine. Bring your sweet tooth and your wallet! All proceeds go to support church projects and missions outreach. None of this would be possible without the talents and generosity of all the bakers who donate time, resources and effort to provide the treats for the bake sale. Please plan to bake your special recipes and bring your donations to the church on Saturday, February 6. Label your offerings and be sure to note any that are sugar, nut or gluten free. Please do not price the items as this will be done at the church. If you can use valentine theme packaging all the better. We thank you in advance for your efforts. Watch for news of the Spring Luncheon. Planning meetings will be announced. All women in the congregation are encouraged to participate. Your ideas and efforts are appreciated and your reward is the forging of lasting Christian friendships and enriching your experience as a member of CCSC. Hope to see you at the next meeting.

BIBLE STUDY
Our Bible study sessions continue at 10:00 AM with Lowell Roderick teaching the morning session, and Pastor Brian Anderson teaching the evening session at 6:30 PM. The current study, “God Heard Their Cry” is coming to an end. The last session for this study is on Wednesday, February 10.
Wednesday, February 17, begins a six-week series, “Fire On the Mountain” which is the story of how God’s people fled out of Egypt and their journey into the wilderness. This series will be followed by a five-week series of their trek through the wilderness.
These Bible Studies are created by Ray Vander Laan on DVDs. Be sure to enter the dates for these messages on your calendar!
INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS
Our installation of 2016 officers and commissioning of new deacons will be held at both worship services on Sunday, February 21. All incoming officers are asked to please make every effort to attend one of these services.
RETIREMENT DINNER FOR BONNIE AND MARG
On Saturday, January 9, church members and friends of Bonnie Shetley and Marguerite Burg helped them celebrate the beginning of the next phase of their lives — RETIREMENT! It began with an excellent catered meal by Jane’s Catering, and was followed with a “Mild Roast” by our Senior Pastor, Dr. Brian Anderson. Friends were invited to share their thoughts and messages to both Bonnie and Marg. Both ladies were presented with special gifts selected especially for them. It was a fun evening for all. It is our wish that both Bonnie and Marg get some rest and relaxation before starting their next set of adventures!
CHURCH INFORMATION
THANK YOU FROM BONNIE Thank you to our church family for celebrating my
retirement with me at the dinner that was held on
January 9. Your well wishes and comments of
support are appreciated; your cards and gifts are an
added blessing. I look forward to working with you
to help our church. Wishing you God’s Blessings. — Bonnie Shetley
THANK YOU FROM MARG I thank you so much for your lovely gifts at the
Retirement dinner. Be assured that I will still be
active in the life and the activities of our church. I am
anxious to see what God has in store for me but He
and you know I’m willing to follow His lead! Thank
you again for the privilege of being your pianist/
organist!
Most sincerely, — Marg Burg
WELCOME TANYA! It was very nice to meet those of you who were
at the annual meeting, and I look forward to
working with you even more. I have enjoyed
serving in several ministries and have a heart for
the work of God in the body of believers. By His
grace, I will help the office to be a place where
you are valued and have the tools you need to
serve Him well.
Blessings,
Tanya

OUR FEBRUARY BIRTHDAYS
SWEAT SHOP SORORITY To start this New Year right, our first January meeting
was a “clean up— clear out” day. Boxes hidden in the
back of cupboards, boxes containing hidden treasures
and boxes full of useless old items.
One of these old boxes was filled with ancient colored
sewing treads; some marked .10 & .15 cents. Obviously,
these are too old for our new quilts. Does anyone know
of an antique collector or shop that might want them? As
we are children of the depression, nothing gets thrown
out!
Next on the agenda — our fabrics have to be sorted out
and stored according to size — a big job!
We welcome all to join our happy group and share your
talents. — Jean Brenn, Sweat Shop Sorority Member
MEN’S CLUB This month’s Men’s Club Breakfast is Tuesday, February 2, at 8:00 AM in Alexander Hall. Our speaker is Bill Makris, Marketing Executive for the Arizona Coyotes Hockey Team. Bill will speak about the future of the NHL Hockey in the Valley.
Please add your name to the signup sheet in Alexander Hall so we know how many people will be coming. ALL MEN AND WOMEN ARE WELCOME.
— Dick Clauer, Men’s Club Chair
2016 ALTAR FLOWERS CHART
You still have an opportunity to sign up on the flower chart.
The 2016 chart is posted on the right side of the hallway bulletin board. Please select only one Sunday at this time so that we may accommodate as many requests as possible. Do not wait until just prior to a date that is special to you and your family, as that date may already have been selected.
If a few spaces remain unclaimed after we have had time to sign up, an announcement will be posted in our worship bulletin that additional sign-up opportunities are available. A member of our flower committee will contact you prior to your week to ask you about the details of your gift. Reminder: NO flower choices on holiday weeks.
Thank you for your financial support. We depend on your contributions to the flower fund to be able to provide the flower commemoration program.

CHURCH DECALS ARE AVAILABLE We have a new supply of Church Logo Decals if you did not get one on your car last year. Help promote the church by proudly displaying the church logo on your car rear windshield. Stop by the church on Saturday, February 6, between noon and 2:00 PM. There will be volunteers to apply the decal for you on your car.

HYMNS FOR PEOPLE OF A CERTAIN AGE
Precious Lord, Take My Hand And Help Me Get Up
It is Well with My Soul But My Back Hurts
Nobody Knows the Trouble I Have Seeing
Just a Slower Walk with Thee
Go Tell It on the Mountain And Speak Up!
Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah I’ve Forgotten Where I Parked
Rejoice, Ye Pure of Heart But What Should the Rest of Us Do?
An Upper Room Did Our Lord Prepare But I Needed the Elevator
Be Thou My Vision My Bifocals aren’t Enough
We are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder But I Get Dizzy Above the Third Rung
O Jesus, I Have Promised But I Keep Forgetting What
Have Thine Own Way, Lord I Get Lost Very Easily
