We are excited to welcome you to beautiful Belle Isle Park for the 2020 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. What an incredible weekend this will be in Detroit as we wave the green flag on what will be a historic summer in the Motor City.

With the Grand Prix shining an international spotlight on Belle Isle this weekend and

other national events taking place in Detroit this summer, this is a great opportunity for the world to see all our city has to offer. With back-to-back days of national INDYCAR® race broadcasts from Belle Isle Saturday and Sunday on NBC, we are proud to showcase the beauty of Belle Isle and the shared Detroit and Windsor riverfronts.

On the track, we continue to feature one of the most diverse and entertaining lineups in racing. The NTT INDYCAR® SERIES hosts its only doubleheader race weekend in the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit, while the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competes in the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic. The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli races on Saturday and Sunday and we’re thrilled to showcase the classic Motor City muscle cars of the Historic Trans-Am Series for the first time on Belle Isle with two races during the weekend.

We also encourage you to experience all the fun and exciting activities away from the track in the Meijer Fan Zone. With interactive displays, games and more, the Fan Zone includes something for people of all ages. We will feature live music all weekend long on the Entertainment Stage in the Fan Zone as well.

We want to thank Chevrolet and General Motors for their continued support of the Grand Prix, as well as our partners at Lear Corporation, for helping us host one of the most popular annual summertime celebrations in the Motor City. We appreciate all of our 70 plus partners that are represented at the Grand Prix. With the support of these great companies and the hard work and dedication of our amazing Detroit Grand Prix Association volunteers, the Grand Prix continues to make a positive impact on our region with more than $50 million in total spending annually in metropolitan Detroit.

Along with our partners, the Grand Prix has made more than $13.5 million in lasting improvements to Belle Isle Park since the event returned in 2007. Working with the State of Michigan, the Department of Natural Resources and the Belle Isle Conservancy, we are proud to continue the revitalization of Belle Isle and give back to Detroit’s island jewel. Through our annual Grand Prixmiere fundraising event, the Grand Prix has also helped raise more than $5 million for the Belle Isle Conservancy over the past six years.

Thank you for joining us this weekend and we hope you enjoy the 2020 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. Please visit our website at DetroitGP.com after the event to let us know how you enjoyed your experience.

Sincerely,

Bud Denker Chairman Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear

On behalf of General Motors, Chevrolet and Cadillac, I’d like to welcome you to Detroit and to Belle Isle for the dawn of a new decade, and another great weekend of motorsports action at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear.

With the move of the North American International Auto Show to June, the summer of 2020 in down-town Detroit will be filled with even more events, energy and excitement than ever before. The race weekend on Belle Isle is no exception.

Watching the world’s best drivers face the challenge of the island’s 2.3-mile street circuit is exhilarating, no matter how old you are or how many times you’ve done it before. In addition to the world-class racing, the event also features live music, entertainment, interactive displays, food, drinks and fun for fans of all ages.

Not only is this one of the most exciting weekends of the year in downtown Detroit, it’s also one of the most important. The weekend of racing at Belle Isle generates tens of millions of dollars in total spending across the entire Metro Detroit region.

Belle Isle will host seven races from four series, May 29-31, including what continues to stand out as the only doubleheader race weekend on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule – the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit.

With two full-points races on Saturday and Sunday, the event weekend has huge implications in the Series’ championship battle. Immediately following the Indianapolis 500, it’s also a big shift in strategy, setup and execution of race plan. These ingredients are sure to combine for an exciting weekend of great racing action.

The weekend’s races at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear include:

n Chevrolet Dual in Detroit (NTT INDYCAR SERIES)

n Chevrolet Sports Car Classic (IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship)

n The Muscle Car Challenge and the Motor City Dash (Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli)

n Two races from the Historic Trans-Am Series, new to the Belle Isle racing lineup in 2020

I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be and I’m glad that you feel the same way.

Thank you for joining us and I hope you have a great time.

Sincerely,

Mark L. ReussGeneral Motors President

TRANS AM SERIES PRESENTED BY PIRELLIThe Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli is America’s Road Racing Series and it dates back to 1966. Throughout the years, some of the greatest names in motorsports have participated in the Trans Am Series. Drivers including Tommy Kendall, Mark Donohue, Peter Gregg, Bob Tullius and Wally Dallenbach, Jr. have all won multiple championships under the Trans Am name. While Trans Am will always be dedicated to honoring its history and legacy, it is far from simply living in the past. Since the addition of the Trans Am Race Company, LLC in late 2011, Trans Am has experienced unprecedented growth as a new class based model has been implemented. Now, five distinct classes take center stage in the series—TA, XGT, TA2, SGT and GT while Trans Am is positioned to power into the future, not live in the past. The Trans Am TA2 class will once again compete on Belle Isle in 2020, with the Muscle Car Challenge on Saturday followed by the Motor City Dash on Sunday. To learn more visit www.GoTransAm.com and follow Trans Am on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at @GoTransAm.

HISTORIC TRANS-AM SERIESThe Historic Trans-Am Series features some of the most iconic cars from one of the greatest eras of American road racing history. Featuring such cars as the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, AMC Javelin, Pontiac Firebird, Ford Falcon, Plymouth Barracuda and more, the Historic Trans-Am Series reconnects fans with the legendary Motor City muscle production cars that they represent. In 2020, these historic cars will race for the first time on Belle Isle. The Historic Trans-Am Series will race on both Saturday and Sunday at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, competing in the actual cars that were raced in the Golden Era of Trans Am Series competition from 1966 to 1972, by some of racing’s legendary drivers. Only cars with actual Trans Am Series race history from this era participate in today’s Historic Trans-Am Series. Among the cars expected to compete at Belle Isle are: the 1968 and 1969 Team Penske Chevrolet Camaros originally driven by Mark Donohue, the 1969 and 1970 Boss Ford Mustangs originally driven by Parnelli Jones and George Follmer and the 1970 Dodge Challenger originally driven by Sam Posey. In 2020, the Historic Trans-Am Series celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 1970 Trans Am season, which marked the peak of the Detroit auto manufacturers involvement in the series. HOW TO FOLLOW IMSA ON-TRACK ACTIONCLASS COLORS

To help fans easily identify a class of car, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship uses a color system.

The DAYTONA PROTOTYPE iNTERNATIONAL class is designated by BLACK markings on the number panel and WHITE leader lights.

The GT DAYTONA class is designated by GREEN markings on the number panel, mirrors, windscreen banner, rear wing end plates and leader light.

Number panels are backlit for easy identification at night.

CLASSESThe IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship features two styles of cars – Prototype, which showcases the latest automotive technology and are uniquely designed for the race track, and Grand Touring, which is based on road-going production models.

LEADER LIGHT SYSTEMTo help fans follow the on-track action, IMSA uses a Leader Light System. It allows fans to easily identify the position of each car in its respective class.

The car’s position is displayed on an LED panel mounted on the side of the car and the color of the LED number corresponds with the class.

For instance, an illuminated LED GREEN number 5 on a GTD style car means that car is in 5th position in the GTD class.
