Special attention should be given to the way that you breathe for singing:
● Low, abdominal breathing is required
Imagine you have a rubber ring round your middle and as you inhale you inflate the ring
● Feel that the breathing is connected to the voice by a column
● Try not to lift your shoulders as you inhale, but fill your tummy instead
● Think of a balloon; breathe in and fill the balloon (letting the tummy release)
● As you exhale, feel the air being pushed out, supported by your abdominal muscles
● Try not to let your chest slump as you exhale; instead, use your lower abdominal muscles to support the voice

Vocal Warm Ups

There should be no hesitation between the 'shh' sound and the vowel and this transition requires extra support.
Ex.2: Long notes & vowels
'uh' as in shook 'o' as in shop
&
'eh' as in shed 'i' as in ship
'ar' as in sharp
&
The same vowel sounds are used as in Ex.2 but they are sung together in a legato line.
Ex.3: Long notes & vowels
Now repeat the line on these notes.
&
Slide smoothly between notes to sound like a siren. To get the 'ng' sound think of the end of the word 'sing'.
Ex.4: Sirens
Repeat

To achieve the correct humming sound think of an inquisitive 'mmm' from the head, rather than a 'hum' from the throat.
Ex.5: Vibration
Repeat 6 times rising a semi-tone each time.
Repeat 6 times using the 'ng' sound, rising a semi-tone each time.

Push air through relaxed lips to create a motorbike sound.
Not everybody finds this easy to start with but persevere and your singing will improve as a result.
