Vocal Warm Ups

There should be no hesitation between the 'shh' sound and the vowel and this transition requires extra support.

Ex.2: Long notes & vowels

'uh' as in shook 'o' as in shop

&

'eh' as in shed 'i' as in ship

'ar' as in sharp

&

The same vowel sounds are used as in Ex.2 but they are sung together in a legato line.

Ex.3: Long notes & vowels

Now repeat the line on these notes.

&

Slide smoothly between notes to sound like a siren. To get the 'ng' sound think of the end of the word 'sing'.

Ex.4: Sirens

Repeat

To achieve the correct humming sound think of an inquisitive 'mmm' from the head, rather than a 'hum' from the throat.

Ex.5: Vibration

Repeat 6 times rising a semi-tone each time.

Repeat 6 times using the 'ng' sound, rising a semi-tone each time.

Push air through relaxed lips to create a motorbike sound.

Not everybody finds this easy to start with but persevere and your singing will improve as a result.
