Who is Vigilance Press?

Vigilance Press is owned by James Dawsey, and has been publishing electronic role-playing game supplements since 2002. We have over 80 products available on RPGNow and Drive-Thru RPG. With the Tianxia: Blood, Silk, & Jade Kickstarter Campaign, we are looking to print a number of physical books and distribute them to gaming stores worldwide.

What is Tianxia: Blood, Silk & Jade?

Tianxia: Blood, Silk & Jade opens the door to a new world of adventure for players of the Fate Core System Role-Playing Game. Players take on the role of wuxia, wandering Kung Fu fighters in a fantastical setting that celebrates the epic dramas of Chinese film and literature. Based on a mix of the Wuxia and Kung Fu film genres, with a healthy dose of original concepts, the world of Tianxia is unlike any other currently in publication. Players are encouraged to use their imagination to create unique heroes to explore this new setting. These heroes are armed with the mystic powers of Chi, and able to call upon a new, unique set of Kung Fu stunts created by Jack Norris.

Tianxia: Blood, Silk & Jade is the first in a line of role-playing game books that work with the Fate Core System rules (available now from Evil Hat Productions). The first book offers a unique set of Kung Fu rules that helps players and game masters recreate the kinds of high-flying action and adventure you've seen in movies like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero, and more! With copies of Tianixa: Blood, Silk & Jade and their Fate Core System books in hand, players have all the material they’ll need to take their Fate Core game into the Wuxia genre.

The print version will be full color and hardcover. We're going with the larger 8.5 by 11 inch format to really show off the color art inside. The book runs roughly 200 pages at this point, but we will be adding more content based on feedback during the course of the Kickstarter Campaign. This means backers can participate by playtesting during the campaign.

Who are the Creators of Tianxia: Blood, Silk & Jade?

Author, Jack Norris: The book was created, written, and developed by Jack Norris. Jack has been writing in the role-playing games industry for over 15 years, and has worked for such noteworthy companies as White Wolf, Margaret Weis Productions, Green Ronin, and Vigilance Press. This project represents the culmination of 10 years of development and conceptual work, and is a dream project for him.

Publisher, James Dawsey: James Dawsey has wanted to develop a line for print publication since taking over Vigilance Press in 2011, and this is his first serious foray into accomplishing that goal. James has been a gamer and enthusiast since the 1970’s, and has published a number of digital works as Vigilance Press since 2011. He has also worked with Green Ronin as a writer for their Mutants and Masterminds and DC Adventures lines.

Artist, Denise Jones: Denise Jones is the artist who has created the definitive look for Tianxia. She's worked on Vigilance Press products since 2010, and has been a professional artist for over 12 years. Her prior accomplishments include having worked on art for the EarthDawn RPG, serving as a staff artist for the RP forum "The Napping Cat's Dream" and running a creator-owned webcomic for eight years. Denise has crafted amazing full-color illustrations for Tianxia, several of which you see scattered through this Kickstarter page. You can find more of her art on her Deviant Art page here!

Layout and Graphic Design, Daniel Solis: Daniel Solis is our graphic designer and layout mastermind for this project. You may have seen his recent Kickstarter project, Belle of the Ball. He is well-known for his work as a game designer as well as graphic designer, having created games like Do: The Pilgrims of the Flying Temple, Happy Birthday Robot!, and the card game Koi Pond. His layout skills have been applied to several high profile games, including Marvel Heroic Roleplaying and the upcoming Firefly Role-playing game. You can find his blog here!

Editor, Nathan Kahler: Nathan Kahler serves as both editor and playtester on such Vigilance Press projects as The Oktobermen, Black Chapter, Six-Gun, and more (look for Due Vigilance on Amazon.com). He has also acted as playtester for Green Ronin on their Mutants and Masterminds line of books.
