LADYCAT BASKETBALL

The Ladycats JV and V Basketball teams failed to capture their first district win against Fairfield.

JV girls had a close game and lead with 1:35 to play. Poor free-throw shooting down the stretch hurt the team and led to the loss.

The varsity girls’ basketball team started the game with great defensive intensity and focus and trailed by 4 at the end of the 1st quarter.  However, a low scoring second quarter, too many turnovers, and lack of rebounding lead to the Ladycats taking a loss Fairfield.

LADYCAT SOCCER

The JV 2 Ladycats played a great game against Carlisle. We had our chances with a strong performance as a team, but couldn’t put any away. The final score was 0-0.  Standouts of the game were Celeste Lara, Isabel Ibarra, Karina Gutierrez and Genesis Giron.  Isabella Garcia had a clean sheet on the night with a great save to keep us in the game. The defense held strong powered by Esmeralda Ramirez, Isabel Ibarra, Luisa Devora and Alliyah Estrada. The JV2 girls will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Madisonville to compete in their second tournament of the season!

The Ladycats earned their second loss of the season Friday morning after losing to the Lady Falcons from Huffman-Hargrave. The final score was 2-0. The Ladycats gave up the two goals during the first half. The girls tried, pushed and played hard, and after various attempts to come back from their score deficit, the girls were simply outplayed by a really good team; who was a regional semifinalist in last years regional tournament. Standouts for the game are: Lauren Rocha, Camila Dominguez and Brenda Trevino.

The girls faced the Lady Jacks from Diboll. We came home with our second win of the tournament with a final score of 5-0. Mikayla Flynn (2) opened up the scoring session with a corner kick that went straight into the opponents goal. Izabel Simien Scored a "hat-trick" assisted by Mikayla Flynn, Lauren Rocha, and one unassisted goal. Lesley Chavez added another clean sheet to her account assisted by her defenders: Brenda Trevino, Melissa Giron, Delaney Fletcher, and Angela Ledesma.

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. In this STEM class, we’re learning about surface tension by making “Rainbow Milk”! Ingredients? Milk, food coloring and a little dish soap. You can use what you already have on hand to do science experiments with your kids at home, too. Just google “Easy Science Experiments” this weekend and get ready to have a blast!

Speaking of using what we already have at home--Building 3D shapes in Math using marshmallows and toothpicks!
