What a great time to be in genbluesprings. The Blue

Springs Chamber of Commerce young professional

group has had a blast this September. From a lively BYOBreakfast meeting, entertaining time,

setting up and volunteering in the Fall Fun Fest Beer Garden, the team has been establishing a

great network of friends.

Coming up in October, the BYOBreakfast will be on October 6 at the Blue Springs Fieldhouse

(425 NE Mock Avenue). We will be tweaking the final details for the Speed Networking event in

October and Holiday Social in December. YES! You read that correctly. Speed Networking is

back! Spots are limited to the first 40 people who register for the 2nd Annual Networking event.

Taking place at Adams Pointe Golf Club (1601 RD Mize Rd) on Tuesday, October 13 from 5:00-

7:00pm. There will be a putting contest, prizes, free drinks (2) and yummy food. Bring your

business cards and get ready for a fun time of networking and enhancing your “elevator speech”.

If you are interested in hosting genbluesprings for at BYOBreakfast meeting or Happy Hour,

contact the Chamber office. genbluesprings is eager to connect with Chamber Members.

Linda Glasgow, a third grade teacher at John Nowlin Elementary School in the Blue Springs R-IV

School District, was named the 2015-2016 Missouri State Teacher of the Year by the Missouri

Department of Elementary & Secondary Education. Throughout her 30 years of service, Linda has

shown her love for both teaching and her students by her ongoing effort to get better in order

to best serve the students. Each year the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary

Education honors a classroom teacher and their influences in the lives of the children they teach.

Linda is the second Blue Springs R-IV School District teacher to attain this honor.

Congratulations Linda Glasgow!

The City of Blue Springs is the recipient of the 2015 Missouri Municipal League Innovation

Award, presented on September 22, 2015, at MML’s 81st Annual Conference in Kansas City,

Missouri. The City was honored for its program to help citizens open and grow a local business.

Early in 2013, the City partnered with the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Blue

Springs Economic Development Corporation, as well as the Jackson County Economic

Development Corporation to create the “How to Open and Grow Your Business in Blue

Springs” guide. This guide has sparked changed in city regulations as well as the creation of a new

business services division that acts as a

liaison for the business community and to

streamline the business development

process. Since its publication, the City,

Chamber and EDCs have hosted 10

presentations and two expos at Mid-

Continent Public Library locations (also a

partner), reaching more than 500

community members. The MML

Innovation Awards programs showcases

municipal projects that demonstrate new

approaches for solving municipal

challenges. The awards recognize and

celebrate successful programs, spotlighting

those that could benefit other

communities.
