Year 6 Canberra Excursion Refunds Forms have been sent home to families eligible for a refund of money paid towards the now cancelled Canberra Excursion. If you have not already returned the form, please do so at your earliest convenience so that we may process your refund.

It is a requirement by the Department that the money be refunded to the person who originally paid for the activity. For example, if an excursion is being paid by instalments and payment was made by different parents or by a grandmother, we will require an individual form to be completed by each person. Forms are available from the school office if you require another form.

KH Turtles KH read an information text about turtles and researched ways that traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people traditionally painted turtles. We looked at how colours were and still are sourced from local materials, using ochre or iron clay pigments to produce red, yellow and white, and black from charcoal. We also learnt about the more modern form of dot painting and the colours used.

Turtles were and remain a favoured food source for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. They respect the food resources that sustain them, and they celebrate the turtle. Turtles feature in Dreamtime stories; they are also totems for some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Turtles are found in freshwater lakes and billabongs as well as the sea where the large saltwater turtles live. Aboriginal artists from the northern areas of Australia commonly use turtles in their artworks. After learning this information, we then drew and painted our own turtles using traditional colours and the dot painting technique
