TRANSCRIPT

After I took office, there wasan outpouring of residents whowanted to be involved in theircommunity. So, a group ofeveryday citizens was organ-ized to brainstorm about waysto make sure all neighbor-

hoods receive the resources and attention needed to flourish. Thus, theNeighborhood Excellence Initiative was born.

Ward meetings were held in December to introduce the NeighborhoodExcellence Initiative to residents and was met with an overwhelminglypositive response. Many residents who attended volunteered to beNeighborhood Ambassadors. This can be something as simple as re-ceiving email updates about city programs, making sure neighbors knowabout those programs, or organizing block parties to get neighbors toknow neighbors. See cityofcf.com/NeighborhoodExcellence for more in-formation.

There is little question that our diverse blend of safe and friendly neigh-borhoods serves as the backbone of our community. Whether you live ina house, condo, duplex, or apartment, we all have a stake in the long-term health and vitality of our neighborhoods. Neighborhood ExcellenceInitiative gives us an avenue to build upon our strengths in ways that re-inforce those neighborhoods. By working together, we can protect ourproperty values, improve our quality of life, and ensure that CuyahogaFalls remains a wonderful place to live, raise a family, and enjoy retirementfor generations to come. Another reason why Life is Better Here!

Home Health & Safety Tips•Smoke detectors should be located on every level of your home and outside each sleeping area. Replace batteries twice a year. Some newer smoke detector models have 10-year batteries.• Carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are lifesavers, too! CO alarms will notify inhabitants if a defective heater burning natural gas, oil, propane, wood or kerosene is emitting this odorless gas into your home.• Have your home tested for radon. Radon is a radioactive gas that exists naturally in soil and can enter your home through basement cracks, joints and gaps. Concentrated levels of radon can lead to serious health issues. • Keep the area around your heating system clear and make sure your heating system is properly vented to the outside to prevent CO buildup indoors. Never store combustibles near a furnace.

The “Not Me, I’m Drug Free” program is directed towardseducating Cuyahoga Falls 5th grade students about

the dangers of using drugs and alcohol. Students who pledge

to abstain will receive a‘Free’-wards incentive cardcontaining valuable perkson food and family activitiesin and around the city. Con-tact your local school

district to take the pledge today!
