Hours of Operation
Monday – Friday
8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Thankfulness This November let’s really get to the heart of the matter.
Beginning with November 6 as we conduct our civil duties and remember to put ALL people first as we head to the polls.
Then on November 22, we pause nationally to give thanks; not just for an oversized stuffed bird or corn and mashed potatoes in real butter, not even just for the aromatic golden breads and pies. The most important reason to be thankful this holiday is YOU! We are also thankful for family, friends, acquaintances, neighbors and co-workers.
The Human Race is not a race at all and people aren’t to be hurried along to see who wins, but more so to be treated just like you treat one another here at the Lexington Senior Center. Your kind words, your willingness to help one another, your phone calls and text messages to check up on your fellow participants is truly what matters.
For these very reasons we say “thank you” for the giving of yourselves.
Keep Moving ~ Sean

Activities and Education
Carolyn’s Corner Book Club
The Book Club is currently reading and will meet and discuss, Love and Other Consolation Prizes by Jamie Ford on November 1 at 10 a.m. Note: This is a departure from the usual meetings of the first and third Thursday. The book club will meet only once in November. The December reading, being announced here, will be A Gentleman in Moscow, by Amor Towles and will be discussed on December 6 and 20. From the New York Times bestselling author of Rules of Civility comes this transporting novel about a man who is ordered to spend the rest of his life inside a luxury hotel. In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. Brimming with humor, a glittering cast of characters, and one beautifully rendered scene after another, this singular novel casts a spell as it relates the Count’s endeavor to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a man of purpose.
OLLI – Donovan Forum Series Thursdays, 2 p.m.
Nov. 1 – Redistricting Kentucky: Why it matters and how citizens can strengthen the process. Susan Perkins Weston, Lexington League of Women Voters Redistricting is the process used to define the districts for seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and in state legislatures. Those district lines can make it easier or harder for citizens to participate in their government and shape its decisions. As Kentucky moves toward its next redistricting, we need to build a fair, transparent redistricting process that results in fair, participatory districts. Nov. 8 – Women Veterans Phyllis Abbot, Executive Director of Lady Veterans Connects, Inc. In this talk, we will learn about the growing needs of homeless women veterans who are the fastest growing homeless population. We will also learn about how suicide, PTSD and Military Sexual Trauma are affecting women veterans. This talk will also discuss the home in Lexington where three women veterans are living in a transitional housing program and the renovation of the Trapp School in Winchester. Nov. 15 – Who Killed Betty Gail Brown: Murder, Mistrial & Mystery Robert Lawson, J.D., Professor Emeritus, University of Kentucky. The murder of Betty Gail Brown is one of Kentucky’s most famous unsolved murders. Professor Lawson defended a man who confessed to the killing and recently wrote the book “Who Killed Betty Gail Brown.” This presentation is about the murder and the trial of the man who confessed to the murder. Nov. 29 – The New Madrid Earthquake Seth Carpenter, Ph.D., Geologist, Kentucky Geological Survey. Join Seth Carpenter as he provides an overview of the New Madrid Earthquake.
