Classic Glass Corvette Club General Meeting Minutes, June 11, 2013

President: James Swope opened the meeting at 7:35 p.m. The balloting for our new NCM ambassador via on-line as well as here tonight went well. The two candidates were Bill Majoros and Doug Reed. Doug is the new ambassador and will take over from Charlie Koninsky as of July 1, 2013 for a term of one year. James then thanked

Charlie for a job well done.

“Adventures that you may have missed” was next. May 16-18 was the Circle City PCB caravan and run. Harriette Majoros gave the update about the C-7 leading the group from Dothan to PCB. CCC raised over 10K for the NCM/Motorsports Park. She encouraged all to attend this fun event next year. May 24-25 was the Vettes for Vets at Talladega. May 31 was the Atlanta Historical Center cruise and lunch. June 8&9 was the NCM work weekend. The men got to destroy metal/wood shipping crates while the women worked inside stuffing. Did you see the pictures of Ed Diehl from the slide show really going at the pallet? The work according to Roc Linkov from the NCM was to last both days and was done on Sat so there was free time on Sunday to sleep in and visit the NCM as a tourist before returning home. James said the most fun is going to dinner and sharing stories at these events.

acknowledgement of our donation to them in memory of Don’s dad who recently passed away.

Treasurer’s Report: Cindy Cowart presented the Treasure’s Report. Sandi Johannes moved and Ken Cearns made the 2nd to accept the report. Passed (To view this report, go to the members section of the website behind the firewall).

we would have had in May.

Picnic is on July 13 at Coopers Furnace. The food will be catered again by BBQ Street. For 90 servings, it will be $944.42. Members if they wish can bring sides or desserts. Larry Yon has been working on the food. Ken Cearns moved and Jim Johannes made the 2nd that we spend up to that amount for the picnic. Passed. The Calvary kids will not be with us this year as they have another commitment.

June 15 will be the Greg Wyatt tour. Meet up at Glade Road for a leave out time of 10:00 a.m. It takes about one and a half hours to get there. Will have lunch somewhere.

July 4th parade will be in Dunwoody this year as is one of the largest in the SE. Only about 4-5 cars are signed up as of now.

Old Soldiers Parade in Alpharetta is on August 8 and is open to all car types. Bob asked for a show of hand for those who will participate and about 10 hands went up.

Cindy Cowart

Secretary’s Report: The Minutes were printed in the newsletter and Harriette Majoros said there were no additions or corrections. She asked for a motion to accept. Nancy Alexander did so and John Ivankovich 2nd. Motion to accept passed.

Harriette Majoros

Harriette then gave an update on the ‘sickbay’. Wayne Ray is doing ok and is here tonight. Doctors could not do his scan recently as there was still too much radiation present. We are glad to see him. Keelie Floyd is also present and still has the boot on her foot for four (4) more weeks. Don Luther’s card from Toys4Tots was read as it is they're away.

V.P. of Activities: Bob Zajicek said there are about 100 pre-registered for SVS. There will be a team managers meeting on June 18 at Tavern 120 at 7:00p.m. to regroup and review, making sure all is in order for SVS on the 22nd. He reported there are now more vendors than what

the Reeds and others, we have now put $5600 towards that goal. Charlie then gave out more of the Vietnam Vet stickers to our member vets.

The work weekend went very well with 5 cars and 10 people which included his 2 grandsons, the Klingers, the Swopes, the Diehls, Calvin and Charlie. They got a big thank you from Roc Linkov for all the work. An attempt was made to go to the Pig but it was closed. He has raffle tickets for the last 60th Anniversary coupe for 2013 and those tickets are $10. There will be an NCM store at SVS and Charlie brought back 10 boxes of merchandise.

He then said it has been great to work with the NCM people and encouraged all to attend an event there – you will be impressed. See you up there!

VP of Membership: Larry Yon is the substitute for Chris. There are 86 members present. Guests are: Dylan Brown who has an ’85; Dean & Beth Decker with a 2002 Mag Red with 25K; Jeff Haughnaut who was there with his dad. He is in the National Guard. Steve Lutz has a 90 coupe

Charlie Koninsky

NCM Ambassador: Charlie showed us a map of the Motorsports Park which will be a multi-use track and park once completed. We have committed to a half acre for $7500. With the funds from VetteStock and other contributions by members such as Calvin, PJ & Wayne Ray, Charlie,

"won for the weekend" 427 (2013) and said it was awesome. She only drove it 200 miles! (Wasn’t she supposed to give us all a ride?)

The 25/25/50 has $222 with $112 going to the treasury and Charles King and Steve Rice each won $55.

Jim Johannes

CGCC Store: Jim Johannes said to come and look at the store’s selection and that there will be more for SVS.

Continued from page 2

Bob has also reached out to Corvette Atlanta for cars.

Ken Cearns stated that he still needs volunteers to help with parking for SVS.

Chaz Cone

Webmaster: Chaz Cone said he had nothing to say but stood up anyway but then proceeded to say there are 86 people in the garage & WHAT’S WRONG THAT YOUR CAR IS NOT THERE!

Tonie Etter

VP at Large: Greg Brooks was the substitute for Tonie. New cars: Mike O’Daniels reported that he had a ’77 that is taking just too long to restore so he went and bought a 2004 red coupe. John Iroff reported that as of yesterday there was a new baby girl Iroff- Samantha Brook. Cindy Cowart used her

New Business: Calvin said there is the Marietta National History Museum by Dobbins AFB and they now have an F-14 Tomcat. We can go over and have a picture taken with the plane. Make a donation of maybe $10 as this is the only support the museum gets.

Mana Swope gave us the program for this year’s school supplies for Powers Ferry Elem. School which is, like Sedalia Park Elem we did last year, a Title I school. We will get better backpack and there are 4 member families who are covering that cost. Members will be asked to get supplies starting in July

Larry Brown (L) and Rick Engle chow down on some good hamburgers at Jim's Family Restaurant in Summerville. Three in-car nav units did not agree on how to get there but we made it. It was all part of the fun.

We were all like kids in a candy store Some cars from the Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta joined us for the cruise to Summerville, GA to look (drool) over Greg Wyatt’s Corvette collection. This collection is seen by invitation only. The scenic ride through the rolling hills was nothing to what greeted us. WOW is all that can be said besides thanks to Greg and his wife.

This is a partial view of the Greg Wyatt Corvette collection in his climate-controlled garage/show area. All of them had been restored and were for sale.

Although few in number, this hard working group of CGCC volunteers accomplished what the NCM estimated would take 8 hours over the 2 days in only the 4 hours on Saturday. No one had ever done that before! They earned the great food and fun times Saturday night. Sunday, some slept in, some shopped at the NCM, Charlie loaded up the merchandise for Supervette, and all fought the rain coming home.

Bob Klinger stays a safe distance away as Ed Diehl vents his frustrations and uses his "Persuader" to loosen the plywood from one of the shipping containers they had to dismantle.

It was a two man job and Charlie Koninsky (R) and his grandson 10yr old Jake teamed up to take the wheels off the containers.

WE DID IT!!! The National Corvette Museum had been seeking to raise a million dollars for the creation of the Motorsports Park just across I-65 from the Museum proper. Not only was that goal met, but the Corvette fraternity, including individual donations and those made by clubs, exceeded the goal by over $95,471.

With the target met, this means that the Motorsports Park will consist of a 3.15 mile road course, featuring four different configurations, with the West Track as part of the initial construction of the Park. In addition, the final phases will include an autocross/skidpad area, paddock, control tower, commercial business park, and even classrooms.

The Corvette Racing/Pratt & Miller team have come on board to help design the road course, and have included some of the features from their favorite racetracks, like the Le Mans circuit Mulsanne

Straight/Turn combo and Porsche curves, and the Nürburgring’s Karussell Corner. The road course will be built to accepted professional design standards.

The grading contract has now been let with a 100 day completion date.

As the project has estimated costs of nearly $16.5 million, $3 million of which has already been spent including the acquisition of land, there’s still a ways to go in terms of sponsorship.

The groundbreaking ceremonies at the Park will take place on Friday, June 28th.

You can check out the Motorsports Park Facebook page to keep abreast of all of the latest happenings.

The new location out front of the Day’s showroom worked very well for our first time there. They moved 138 cars for us (thanks Jennifer) and we filled the spaces right back with 148 cars, and we even used the grass next to the road for the C1-C3 cars. They were a real drawing card for the people driving by.

An event this large runs on club volunteers. The hours of planning meetings, stuffing goodie bags, preparing and serving some great food, getting NCM merchandise here and back, obtaining silent auction items and making that run smoothly, selling 50/50 raffle tickets judging the cars, getting all the cars parked, registration, all that and much more has to be coordinated and done. And we made it look easy! Thanks everyone!

SuperVette Saturday was a super success

The great weather, unlike the rain on the previous May date, brought out a lot of people and their cars to the show. How could you not do it?

Rick Engle checks his scoring sheet as he finishes one car and heads for the next one.

Cars, cars, everywhere cars was heard all day long at SuperVette Saturday.

Racing liveries come and go, but there are some so iconic, so recognizable, they'll be remembered forever. There's now a new one to add to that list. Meet "Jake." The skull mascot is the brainchild of designer Eddie Jabbour of Kick Design.

"Jake is the unofficial official mascot of Corvette Racing," Jabbour said. "He really came from the team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2004."I thought it would be awesome if there was an icon that truly belonged to Corvette Racing. I scribbled the Corvette flag on a cocktail napkin and then drew a skull around it.

I thought the design worked and the team embraced it immediately. It was in sync with what they were about, and the fans recognized that.” The logo started out as a small sticker on the C6.R. In 2006, a larger version found its way to the right front bumper where it stayed to this day. Identical versions were added to the rear bumper. The only change is the C6R euro style typeface changed to an italicized version in 2008.

Its popularity convinced the Corvette team to dedicate a full-car graphic for the 2008 ALMS season finale at Laguna Seca. The special Jake cars were a one-time only deal, just for fun, to make the last race of the 2008 season.

It has even made its way onto production Corvette models. The “Jake” logo was added to the top of the air intake of the 2009 Corvette ZR1. Other models have Jake prominently displayed on the exterior.

Seen in winner's circles from Sebring to Le Mans, Jake has had star billing over the years and has developed quite a following. Jake has appeared on t-shirts and hats, tattoos and was later featured on team uniforms, crew shirts, and driver helmets before blossoming into an entire clothing and accessories line.

The History of “Jake” at Corvette Racing

Is this a new Transformer named “Slingshot”?

The Michael Bay-directed series of Transformers movies has become known for its impressive lineup of cars. It has been confirmed there are two new cars for the next installment. Joining the cast of T4 are a "race-inspired" Chevrolet Corvette Stingray being an autobot named “Slingshot”and a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse that may be an autobot named “Drift”.

The Stingray sports a lime green paint scheme with black stripes. This is definitely not the new 2014 Lime Rock Green color! The Corvette appears to have the actual rear wing from Corvette Racing’s C6.R. The only body modifications that make this a non-stock Stingray are some side rockers and a front splitter that look to be bolted on to the stock body work.

The numbers tell the story of the C7

While the LT1 V8 engine will make 455 horsepower, that doesn’t necessarily tell the story of how fast the Corvette can go and what kind of turns it can take.

According to the General, 2014 Corvette Stingray owners who opt for the Z51 performance package will be able to go from 0-60 MPH in just 3.8 seconds.

Even more impressive, the 2014 Corvette achieves a rather remarkable 1.03g on the skidpad, according to GM. The C7 Corvette owes that excellent handling to the Z51’s Magnetic Ride Control system. But it’s mostly the LT1 engine that allows the Corvette to fly through the quarter-mile in 12 seconds flat at 119 MPH.

Just as important as going is stopping, and the Corvette can go from 60 MPH to a dead stop in just 107 feet.
