Enhancing capacities for development

in Curifang, Solano in the prov-

ince of Nueva Vizcaya.

This project is a joint effort of

WIMLER and Nueva Vizcaya

Association, a migrant organiza-

tion based in Hong Kong.

It is of course our fervent hope

that we can sustain our support

to these children. In the coming

months, we will launch our new

fund raising drive for the next

school year.

To our donors and sponsors, thank you once again for your kind support in behalf of the chil-dren, parents and teachers.

WIMLER, NVA launch relief drive

to help flood victims

completely rendered use-less after the flood.

WIMLER and Nueva Viz-caya Association (HK) Migrant Association joined with other Hong Kong-based migrant organiza-tions in raising funds, ma-terials and other goods to help the flood victims.

In total, the NVA-led relief drive was able to gather four large boxes of clothes and other materials.

These were sent to the Provincial Human Resource Management Office of Bayombong, Nueva Viz-caya. Dr. Pinky Torralba will coordinate the proper distribution of the relief goods to the most stricken area .

The back-to-back typhoons Pedring (international name: Nesat) and Quiel (international name: Nalgae)hit the Northern and Central Luzon last September.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports that Pedring has caused Ph14.96 billion-worth of damages to infrastructure and agriculture. Region II suffered damages worth P115.08 million because of Quiel. The two typhoons have also damaged a total of 71,518 houses, affecting over 80,000 families. Addi-tionally, seventy-six people were killed from the two typhoons.

Many schools suffered dam-age from the recent typhoon with books and other school equipment and materials

UPDATE: Vegetable Garden

For more information about the project, please visit: http://

WIMLER supports 42 children in Mlang Pilot

elementary School and 35 in Dugong Elemen-

tary School both located in the municipality of

Mlang, North Cotabato on the southern island

of Mindanao. The children are provided with

school bags, school supplies, uniform, a new

pair of shoes and their miscellaneous school

fees.

In return, WIMLER asks the parents to be

actively involved in the school and in maintain-

ing our poultry and vegetable projects.

In the school garden project, the parents do

most of the heavy work such as preparing the

soil and to make it ready for planting. The chil-

dren take care of watering the plants, main-

taining the garden and harvesting. The teachers

also help from time to time. The projects pro-

vide school children practical knowledge on

how to raise vegetables and poultry.

The food raised in these projects is used in two

different ways. Some of it is given to the

school’s feeding program while the rest is sold in

the local market to generate income for the school.

WIMLER hopes to replicate this project in other

schools as contributions of the local communi-

ties to food security.#

UPDATE: Poultry Project

Mr. Janoz Laquihon, who is

affiliated with Mt. Carmel

Rural Life Training Center

(MCRLC). He paid a visit to

our projects last November

1st in order to assess our

work and made a number of

suggestions for improve-

ments.

They also agreed that repre-

sentatives of the two schools

will visit Mt. Carmel Rural

Life Training Center, the

birthplace of the internation-

ally-known Sloping Agricul-

tural Land Technology

(SALT).

The Training Center is

located in barangay Kinusku-

san, just 10 kilometers away

from the town proper of

Bansalan. Actually, it is a

training center for various

sustainable farming systems.

People from all over the coun-

try and abroad have travelled

to this place to learn the mod-

ern technologies it offers. The

intent is that our local partners

will learn advanced techniques

in poultry raising and how to

mix chicken feeds to cut the

costs.

In addition, he also took video

interviews of our scholars and

parents which we hope will be

developed into a short docu-

mentary about the work of

WIMLER.

WIMLER thanks Mr. Laquihon

for his willingness to help the

project on a voluntary basis.

The two projects in Dugong Elementary School (300 lay-ers) and Mlang Pilot Elemen-tary School (600 layers) are still going on. As of October, MPES has already realized a net income of Ph 35,305.47 since the layers started pro-ducing eggs last March. Dugong just started last August and already realized a net income in the amount of Ph 4,694. The first two months were just breakeven.

It has been observed that

production of eggs in the

project is not stable. There

are months that the harvest

is bountiful but there are also

lean months. The biggest

expense is on feeds.

It is for this reason that WIM-

LER sought assistance from

WIMLER and Alpha Phi Epsilon conduct

tree planting activity in Bansalan

Tree planting has been a yearly activ-

ity for WIMLER in Bansalan as our

way to “give back” to Mother Nature.

This year, we were able to plant 50

bamboo trees along the Miral River.

WIMLER volunteers and members of

Alpha Phi Epsilon (Bansalan) both

participated. The Bansalan Municipal

environment and Natural Resources

Office provided the bamboo seedlings

for free.

Another fifty hard wood seedlings are still waiting to be planted. It was decided to let the seedlings grow for a few months more to ensure a higher chance of survival.

This is MICHAEL RELLON, 7 years old. He is

grade I pupil and scholar of Association of

Bansaleňos Worldwide (ABW). Thank you

Michael for joining the tree planting activity.

Sponsor a Child this Christmas: A gift that makes a difference

Christmas is just around the corner. This is the season when we think of giving gifts to our loved ones. For those who have something to spare, we are asking you to include a child in your Christmas list.

Make a child’s dream to continue with her or his studies next school year comes true. The child needs the follow-ing:

- a school bag

- school supplies

- new uniform

- new pair of shoes, and

- some amount to pay the entrance school fees

Her next trip was to Berne, Switzer-land to speak in a thematic work-shop on labor mobility organized by the Swiss government last Septem-ber 13-15 in connection with the Global Forum on Migration and De-velopment (GFMD 2011). She gave a presentation on “Mobilising Develop-ment-friendly Investments and Entre-preneurship by Migrants “.

This was followed by an invitation to speak about Filipino Diasporas: Europe Experience during the Global Summit on Filipino Diasporas for Development organized by Commis-

Leila Rispens-Noel, Chair of WIM-LER Partnership for Social Progress has been invited to speak at several international conferences during the past few months.

Last June Leila was invited by INAFI Asia (International Network of Alternative Financial Network) to moderate a workshop on microfi-nance and remittances during the Alternative Microcredit Summit held in Hyderabad, India.

sion for Filipino Overseas (CFO). The summit was held at the Philippine Inter-national Convention Center (PICC), last September 27-29 in Manila.

Her next trip will be to Geneva, Switzer-land to attend the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD 2011) Civil Society days.

The conferences are in line with WIM-LER’s objectives to leverage the potential of migrants for the development of their countries of origin.#

Thank you for your kind support and we wish you in advance Happy Christmas and lots of blessings throughout the New Year!

The WIMLER Team

As a charity organization, donations

in Hong Kong will be tax deductible.

We are confident that by having a

charity status we will be able to gen-

erate more support in Hong Kong and

therefore, we will be able to help

more poor children.

WIMLER Foundation also aims to

initiate activities in Hong Kong as one

of the pillars of the foundation. We

intend to provide support to migrant

domestic workers and complement

existing efforts particularly in the

field of migration and development.

By next year, we hope to initiate some activities to support hometown associa-tions in Hong Kong of migrant commu-nities regardless of nationalities.

Founding members of WIMLER Founda-

tion are: Victor Neri, Emilie Veringa-

Tobias, and Leila Rispens-Noel who

serves as Chairman.

Aside from the founding members, we

have also invited Sindy Wong to join and

she accepted to serve as Board Secretary.#
