The Miami Rescue Mission’s Great Thanksgiving Banquet will be serving hope in the form of a traditional

Thanksgiving Day meal for hungry and homeless men, women and children. Over 2,500 home-cooked meals will be served on Thanksgiving Day at our Centers in Miami, Hollywood and Pompano. This is only possible because of your amazing support!

In addition to all of the great supporters, the Broward Outreach Centers / Miami Rescue Mission will see over 600 individuals volunteer their time in a variety of ways to help the homeless and hungry on Thanksgiving.

The Great Thanksgiving Banquet will be providing more than just a meal, great live entertainment and a fun atmosphere for those families and individuals who might not be able to celebrate the holiday. Each Campus will have its own intake table where homeless men and women can find out about our life-changing programs and how to take the first steps to a transformed life.

In 2011, we served over 750,000 total meals to the hungry, needy, and homeless of South Florida. We cannot do this without our amazing volunteers, donors and supporters like you. Thank You for making The Great Thanksgiving Banquet possible and bringing hope to thousands.

Dear Friend of the Hungry and Homeless,During the Fall months, our three Centers in Miami, Hollywood and Pompano Beach will be serving over 250,000 meals to the homeless and hungry of our community. For so many, that meal is the first step in transforming their life. That warm, inviting meal offers a little bit of hope in what has become dark days for too many of our men, women and children and is the catalyst for those beginning to believe in their own future. Our vision is “No One is Homeless”, and we have been utilizing every square inch of space so as to accommodate those in need. But, it is only with your continued support that we are able to strive toward our vision and the idea of a better community. Our annual Great Thanksgiving Banquet serves thousands each year.

Be sure to tune in to our Radio Share-A-Thon which will be taking place Wednesday, November 14th on NewsRadio 610 AM(100.3FM) from 6AM to 7 PM. We’ll be talking about our Fall “No One is Hungry or Homeless” Campaign and hope to beat last year’s raised support. Listeners are able to hear stories about the lives being changed on our three campuses, as well as call in to donate that day, enabling us to continue transforming lives each and every day of the year. Pompano Center Celebrates 10 Years of Changing Lives

We love our volunteers and are thankful for the recent visit to the Hollywood Center by 18 managers from CVS Pharmacy. Todd Harris, (right end of 2nd row), organized the managers as they helped prepare a meal and serve it to our residents. Individuals and groups are always welcome to come and volunteer. The Pompano Center celebrated their 10th Anniversary on October 10th in a big way. This was a time to reflect on the many lives that have been touched and transformed as well as honor special people who do so much for the men, women, and children residents. Special Life Changer awards were presented:Community Excellence Award, Broward College North Campus; Community Partnership Award, Wyndham Palm Aire Resort & Spa; Faith Partnership Award, Boca Raton Community Church; Corporate Partnership Award, AmTrust Bank; Community Outreach Award, Foundation of Hope Outreach Ministries; Vendor of the Year Award, Robinhood Rental Party Place, Inc.; and Dr. Linda J. Washington-Brown, PhD, EJD, ARNP, LHCRM, Broward College Associate Dean of RN-BSN Program, who received the Humanitarian Award and was the keynote speaker. Spe-cial thanks to the Broward Board of Commissioners and the Home-less Initiative Partnership that provides support to help operate the Center. imme is part of the new face of homeless-ness. He wasn’t on the streets very long, but was caught up in hopelessness

and despair. Things might have been dif-ferent if he had continued on his path of self-destruction.

“I never thought I would lead the type of life that I fell into in. I come from a very good family. When I was growing up I did well in school, played sports, and took vacations with my family. I went to college and studied busi-ness and art design. I had a dream of starting my own web development company. When I was a teenager I was al-ready doing websites for friends of my par-ents and even helped my teachers.

I lived in Ohio, but af-ter college I had a great opportunity to become involved with a web and marketing company in Broward. This meant leaving my family, but I was very excited. I relocated and for the first year things were going great. I was making a good salary and was liked by the owners. I had experimented with some drugs while in college, but never really got caught up in the drug culture. I had bought a new car and had a great apartment. I was even getting serious about a girlfriend.

A new woman started working at the company and I think I fell in love at first sight. We worked on

a project together and soon I left my previous girlfriend to start spending more time with her. She missed some days and sometimes would call off our dates. One time, I dropped by her apartment. She didn’t answer the door but it was not locked. I went in and saw her passed out with a needle lying beside her. It turned out that she was using heroin and had

become hooked.

I tried to help her, but for some reason I ended up doing it

myself. At first just to experiment, but it really got a hold on me. Over a period of just a few months I lost my job, my apartment, my car, and my girlfriend.

I was lying to my par-ents and found myself

living on the streets. I ended up in detox

and they referred me to Broward Outreach Center. I was given a chance to get healthy and deal with my addiction. I moved back to Ohio to be closer to family. I now have a great job. I still want to open my own business one day. I am so thankful for all the help I received at the Bro-ward Outreach Center. I also want to say thank you to everyone that supports the Center. I am living proof that you are helping people get their lives back on track.”
