Thanos Pappas / Portfolio 2017 / Summary

I was born in the 12th of October 1990 in Athens, Greece and grew up in Kalamata.

Since I was a child I showed my love about cars, music, photography and design.

In 2013 I graduated from the Department of Product and System Design andEngineering in Greece (University of the Aegean). Since, I have been involved in various designprojects on different fields, such as vehicle design (city car for the disabled, light commercialvehicle), product design (furniture, plastic toys), corporate design (branding, packaging) etc.

As an alternative to the military service for people against the use of violence, Iworked for 15 months in a public hospital (administrative staff) starting in July 2014. From May2015 until February 2017, I was the editor in chief in an automotive news website in Greece(www.epitrohon.gr) and I was also responsible for 12 episodes of the automotive TV Show“Asfalos epi trohon” which aired on Greek National Television.

I am a Design Engineer with a systemic and holistic approach to problemsolving. My ultimate goal is to contribute in the design of a better future forhumanity, and especially the people that need it the most, by improving theirway of life with useful products and systems

The design process I follow during various projects, always starts withresearch and analysis of the Context and Users, so I can truly understand theproblem and all of it’s parameters, which is, in my opinion, the mostchallenging and important part of our work.

After that comes the final brief description and the guidelines which leads toideation sketches.

Careful evaluation of the emerged solutions is followed by synthesis andconcept design which will again be re-evaluated and presented to the client asviable solution proposals, to his/her design problem.

Finally, by choosing the most suitable concept, thus keeping the best parts ofthe dismissed proposals, we reach the final design proposal which will bedetailed and improved until it reaches a production-ready status.

Exarsis Transportation Design was created in 2010 by Thanos Pappas and Konstantinos Malandrinos. We provide complete designservices ranging from research, to concept design and the creation of full scale models. Our most notable designs are Project D3 (2012),an electric city car for disabled drivers in a wheelchair, as well as the complete business plan BELO (2014) for the Development,Production and Management of shared vehicles. As a thesis for my university degree I conducted a 6 month study for the design of aLight Commercial Vehicle (2013). In 2014 I was awarded by Fiat for the design study Aiuto - a city car for drivers with different kinds ofdisabilities. Since 2016, the team was reformed and renamed in Roe Design Studio.

Set (Search – Envision – Transmit) Corporate Design, is a team of designers and developers who undertake the design of corporate identityfor small business. The team was created in 2013 from Thanos Pappas (design engineer), Eirini Tzavara (designer) and Dimitris Soumis(developer). We offer services such as logo design, packaging, graphic design, web design, photography, online promotion etc.

From May 2015 to February 2017, I worked for theautomotive news website epitrohon.gr, courtesy ofmr. Haris Theofrastou who is one of the mostrenown automotive journalists in Greece.

I was responsible for the complete re-design of thewebsite and as the editor in chief I was responsiblefor daily articles on automotive news, specials &features as well as conducting test drives couplingas an automotive photographer.

In 2016, I also served as the editor in chief for 12episodes of the automotive TV show «Ασφαλώς ΕπιΤροχών» that aired on Greek National Television.
