The 10 Commandments of Saxophone Playing 1. Thou shall not bite into your mouthpiece. For you will greatly impede the potential of your reed and mouthpiece. 2. Thou shall always blow the air far in front of you, no matter which dynamic you are playing. For only that way will you get a heavenly sounding an carrying tone. 3. Thou shall not flip too much lip over your lower teeth. For you will neutralize the lips and never will have full control over the response. 4. Thou shall keep you tongue low in the mouth. For only that way can the air get freely out of the lungs. To say "U" will place the tongue in the correct position. About the exceptions, we will talk later. 5. Thou shall keep the lips pressure even all around the mouthpiece. To push against the sides of the mouthpiece with the corners of the mouth will help greatly. Besides, it prevent the chin from biting. 6. Thou shall never take the mouthpiece deeper than 1 cm into the mouth. For you will not have full control over the reed. 7. Thou shall never leave you reed on the mouthpiece once you finished. For it will swell and will never close air tight again. Besides, it is not quite hygienic. 8. Thou shall never puff your cheeks went you blow. The air remains useless, it disturbs you embouchure and it looks really goofy. 9. For six days you shall practice and do all your work.
