Since 1982 Dr. Barreto has been continuously active in the field of mining and environmental policy throughout three phases of her professional life in Mozambique, Brazil and Canada.In Mozambique she worked primarily as a legal advisor to the Ministerof Mineral Resources. In Brazil, during 17 years of activity, she under-took academic work as a researcher, provided consulting services tocompanies and served as a senior legal and policy advisor for the Secretary of Mining and Metallurgy. Arriving in Canada in 2002, Dr. Barreto co-founded the Materials Efficiency Research Group consulting firm. During the last twentyyears Dr. Barreto’s work has followed two main themes: • Implementation of sustainable development policies and practices
