H E R I T A G E A N D H I S T O R Y

1957 1970's 1980'sMaurice Shell builds the first Crest pontoon, twenty foot steel pontoon purpose built for diving. Production begins in Owosso Michigan and marine dealers begin to retail Crest Pontoons.

Crest incorporates aluminum pontoons for increased performance. Inverted fence for style, safety gates, ladders, permanent furniture and storage, as well as various trim and comfort levels. Tops became standard and stereo systems began to appear. Crest is the first to unitlize mulitple airtight compartments in the pontoons for added safety and flotation.

Crest develops a multi-tiered line to accommodate customer's requests for more comfort and on-water entertaining. Coolers, audio systems, galleys, wet bars, and fishing pontoons all become part of the Crest line up. Crest was the first to cater to pontoon fisherman.

Crest continues to enhance the structure with additional and oversized deck supports to accomodate higher horsepower. With a reputation of being an overbuilt pontoon, Crest leads with innovations such as performance lifting strakes, adjustable transoms, and larger diameter pontoons enter the Crest specifications.

The 80's brought unprecedented growth to Crest. Performance enhancements, privacy curtains, new steamlined fence design, and mulitple fence and interior color selections give the Crest owner a "custom" feel.

Crest is the first to offer larger diameter pontoons for a better ride and comfort.The Crest II and Crest III begin their run as the one of the most popular pontoons on the water. The 1987-1988 model year marks the 30 year anniversary of Crest Pontoons. Crest builds a new plant in Owosso, Michigan to accomodate the growth.

1990's 2000'sThe 1990's brought a new feel to the pontoon market due to the advancements in engines, and components, including the Triple toon and Taper toon. Virtually all the components of the Crest pontoon are built on-site. Investment in equipment, facility and product development continue at a rapid pace.

The luxury class Savannah and Caribbean Series are added to ever popular Crest II and Crest III. The fishing series is led with the popular Super Fisherman and Family fisherman.

Crest patents the HPT pontoon, the first of the performance pontoons, available in a stern drive or an outboard. Crest hits 60MPH!

In 1999, Crest mourns the passing of Maurice Shell the founder and patriarch of the Crest family. Management of company moves to his family.

Continuing the traditions and innovations of Mr. Shell, Crest introduces the Crest Ultra ET. Performance, standard features and custom comforts reach levels in the Crest line up that continue to propel the Crest brand as a leader in the pontoon business.

Crest continues to its reign as the benchmark in quality pontoons. Innovations such as composite seating structures, helmstands, radius decking and fence styling, heavy duty fence panels, the finest vinyls and upholstery construction, built in ski tow bars are all integrated into the line up.

2010's to TODAY

A new era in Crest pontoons begins when the Shell family sold Crest and Crest Marine LLC was formed. This ownership and management team includes industry veterans and Michigan-based professionals extending the vision of Mr. Shell and his family.

New investment in the latest equipment in support of the experienced Crest team brings the most advancement to pontoons ever to hit the water. Crest revamped the entire line up in 24 months and continues to evolve with the most aggressive design and research and development schedule in the industry.

The new generations of the Savannah, Caribbean, Classic, Crest III, and II are a testament to the brand heritage.
