ihre Leistungen weiter verbessern konnten.DIE BESTEN DER BESTEN HABEN ADIDASUND SEINEM GRÜNDER VON ANFANG ANVERTRAUT.UND DAS GILT NOCH HEUTE.
VON BESCHEIDENEN ANFÄNGEN ZUR WELTWEITEN ERFOLGSTORY
Every great story has a beginning. This onestarted in Herzogenaurach. After rst steps in
their mother’s wash kitchen, Adi Dassler andhis brother Rudolf registered the ‘GebrüderDassler Schuhfabrik’ in 1924 and embarkedon a mission to provide athletes with the best
possible equipment. Early successes were therst rewards and only the start of our story.
In 1949, Adi Dassler started over againregistering the ‘Adolf Dassler adidas Sport-schuhfabrik’ and what was soon to becomethe iconic adidas 3-Stripes.
How do you consistently earn the trust ofworld-class athletes through the decades?Produce innovative products that make thembetter for one. Adi Dassler’s secret to successhad an additional personal ingredient: hemet with athletes, some of them even cameto visit him in Herzogenaurach. He listenedcarefully to what they said and constantly
observed what can be improved or eveninvented to support their needs. THE BEST OF THE BEST TRUSTED ADIDAS AND ITS FOUNDER FROM THE BEGINNING. AND THAT IS STILLTHE CASE TODAY.
FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO A GLOBAL SUCCESS STORY

LAC QUELLE FÜRTH: DER ETWAS ANDERE CLUB
LAC QUELLE FÜRTH : A SPECIAL
KIND OF CLUB For 47 years, the Quelle athletics club (LAC)has stood in the shadow of the sport of footballin Fürth, or the cloverleaf city as it colloquiallyknown. The LAC Quelle, one of the last vestiges ofthe Quelle brand, stands for performance sports, children’s and youth athletics as well as for small,medium-sized and major events just as muchnow as it ever did since its inception in the late1960s.
Olympic champions, world champions, Euro- pean champions, countless German championsand over 1,000 Bavarian champions have theirroots in the club. And that’s not to mention allthe young people who learned to run, jump andthrow in Fürth Dambach. Even today, you are stilllikely to run into former top athletes such as GritHammer, the world-class shot-putter, or PeterWeigt, the runner who completed the 5000m in13:14 minutes, in the streets there. For the last25 years, many children have also been comingto school lessons in our newly renovated athleticshall, which boasts a 200m track. This just goesto show how athletics has established itself as asport in its own right in the city of Fürth.
The LAC Quelle has organised great sportingevents in the region, too, including internationalsports festivals at the facility in Dambach, LIVEin the Nuremberg stadium and now, in 2016, the ADIDAS BOOST ATHLETICS MEETING in Herzo-
genaurach demonstrate the club’s exceptionalcommitment as an organiser. Time and again theywere looking for ways to improve the competitionwith for example adding Music and a children’s
run to the athletics programme.Despite Quelle’s insolvency greatly impactingclub activities after decades of support, WernerKaminski and his current team, thanks to their
great dedication, managed to preserve the yellowand blue brand’s standing as one of Germany’stop clubs.
And in 2016, everything is coming full circle withour equipment provider adidas. The rst company
to provide the club with equipment in the 1970swas the brand with the 3-Stripes, and this year ourHerzogenaurach-based partner is organising the ADIDAS BOOST ATHLETICS MEETING togetherwith the LAC Quelle Fürth.

In her first marathon in 2012, Anna was just 14 seconds shy of achieving the London Olympic standard with her time of2:30:14h. Even though there was still one place left on the team, the German Athletics Association (DLV) did not includeher. Nevertheless, adidas gave her and her sister the chance to get a taste of the Olympic atmosphere by inviting themto the opening ceremony.

Leistungssport.
Lisa and her twin sister Anna did not start running until they were 17. After jointly winning the women’s race in their firsthalf marathon, they were approached by their first trainer, who introduced them to running as a performance sport.

Was war also Dein Ziel in Hannover?
You both competed recently in the Hanover Marathon. Anna, was your performance (2:30:35) enough to secure a spot on the marathon team for Rio? Lisa, whatwere you looking to accomplish by running Hanover,as you’ve already been selected to represent Germanyin Rio? Anna: I did my best to make it to the Olympic Gamesand I fought for every second. I made the standard inthe Berlin Marathon and proved I could keep it up inHanover. As long as no more than one German female
achieves a better time than me by May 1, I’ll denitelyqualify.Lisa: The marathon is the course I’m most enthusiasticabout. As I’ve already secured my place in Rio, I wantedto minimise the risk in the run-up to it, so to speak. The goal of running the full distance has always been in theback of my mind. In Hanover, I had very heavy legs and Iwas unable to run at the speed I’d set myself as a target.Nevertheless, the experience has brought me a stepfurther. What does your recovery and preparation involve fol-
lowing Hanover and leading up to Rio (assuming you’reboth competing)? Anna & Lisa: We have two weeks after the marathonin which we don’t talk about training at all. We justexercise without thinking about our performance. Then,in the following two weeks, we start working on ourrunning technique again, and after that the preparation
for the Olympic Games already begins. What is your objective in running the Boost AthleticsMeeting? Anna & Lisa: We’re looking forward to a meet with lotsof top athletes. We don’t have any performance goals aswe’ve just come back from our break after the mara-thon, and we’re not track runners in any case. We wantto pass on our enthusiasm for running and be in contactwith the spectators. What do you think about adidas creating an annual
athletics meet on its campus? Anna & Lisa: We’re pleased that adidas is giving theGerman runner community a platform on its campus.Sport is all around us here, which makes it the perfect place for a meet. How has your partnership with adidas been and what is your favourite model? Anna & Lisa: We’ve been adidas athletes for over ve years now. It’s a very close, trusting and motivating part-nership. We love the brand, the style and the products. Our favourite model is the adizero adios Boost. It’s our
marathon competition shoe and the perfect runningshoe for us.What is your favourite song while running? Anna & Lisa: We rarely run with headphones in, but wealways have one catchy song or other in our heads. FreeFallin’ by Tom Petty is high on our playlist.
