Dear Executive, Geneva, February 12th , 2018

Impact investing is a global trend driven by investors and asset owners, entrepreneurs, NGO’s, Governments and Corporates who seek a positive social and environmental impact in their investments. There is, therefore, a global growth of sustainable assets driven by global challenges affecting our planet and investors preference that factor social and environmental impact into their investing decisions. Our main objective at ESAFON is to drive the impact agenda forward to help build-up a true understanding of impact in investing and adopt positive impact as part of mainstream instruments within the capital markets and investment strategies. A core characteristic and challenge of impact investing is the measurement and management of social and environmental impact alongside financial returns. The ESAFON 3rd Annual Global Impact Investment Conference key objective is to educate and provide investors and stakeholders with the most relevant information and resources from skilled worldwide impact practitioners to overcome the obstacles in impact management and measurement including due diligence, ongoing monitoring and reporting. The conference will provide useful tools and takeaways to construct impact and alpha under the same model and across portfolios and asset classes from both investors and manager’s perspective. Overhauling Modern Portfolio Theory through a 100% impact investing approach will be shared with the audience and lessons learnt and obstacles occurred will be fully discussed. Family offices, foundations, institutional investors and managers have different motivations, challenges and constraints that will be pragmatically addressed, detailed and debated over panel sessions. Join our 150+ high profile participants in Geneva next April 19th, 2018.

Kind Regards

François Golbery Chairman ESAFON

ESAFON, a non-profit Swiss Association created 17 years ago by 2 partners François Golbery and his wife Anne Golbery, has for sole objective to drive the impact agenda forward and train and influence investors, entrepreneurs, policy makers and leaders to change their behaviours and adopt positive impact as part of mainstream instruments within the capital markets and investment strategies. This is the natural path of a life-time dedication to spread best practices for managing wealth across financial markets. ESAFON definitely wants to contribute to make impact count through Switzerland around the world. GSG and ESAFON are joining forces to bring together in Switzerland leaders from the worlds of finance, business, philanthropy as well as policy makers to get measurable impact embraced in each and every investment. GSG is supporting ESAFON in the process towards the establishment of a Swiss National Advisory Board to drive impact investment into mainstream capital markets. GSG is an independent Global Steering Group catalysing impact investment and entrepreneurship to benefit people and the planet; GSG was established in August 2015 as the successor to and incorporating the work of the Social Impact Investment Taskforce established under the UK’s presidency of the G8. Guernsey (https://www.weareguernsey.com) has been a leading international finance centre for more than 50 years. Over that time, the island has built a reputation of excellence across five core sectors – banking, insurance, investment management, investment funds and private wealth services. For example, there are approximately 1,000 funds domiciled or serviced in Guernsey that are valued at more than £271 billion, while its insurance industry, which is renowned for its expertise and innovation in providing risk management solutions, has grown to become the largest captive domicile in Europe and an emerging centre for reinsurance business. More recently, Guernsey has used this industry-wide expertise to move into the impact investment space. A new cross-sector financial initiative known as Impact Guernsey was launched in 2016 and aims to identify and build business opportunities in the emerging impact investment asset class. Justin Sykes, Chairman of Impact Guernsey, said the group’s launch was ‘an important step towards raising awareness of the global trend toward corporate and individual social responsibility’. Guernsey is already home to a growing number of impact investment related structures and vehicles. For example, Partners Group created PG Impact Investments in 2015, which is a closed-ended collective investment scheme, investing via impact fund managers as well as directly into social enterprises. Obtala Limited, established in Guernsey with a view to listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), is an AIM and Social Stock Exchange listed agriculture and forestry company, with a mission to become one of East Africa’s largest sustainable food and timber producers. Guernsey is also home to a variety of cleantech funds such as Catalyst Investment Management, targeting investments in clean energy in the MENA region.

SPEAKERS

Mika Pyykkö, Project Director Impact Investing, Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, Helsinki, Finland – Chairman of the Morning Session I lead Sitra's Impact Investing focus area. Impact investing is a way of stepping up collaboration between the public and private sectors in order to prevent or solve societal problems. The focus area's activities have culminated in an emerging ecosystem that fosters collaboration between the private and public sectors, non-profit actors and funding providers, in order to bring about positive changes for citizens while saving on the cost to society. I have previously worked in leadership positions in organisations such as Mental Capital Care Ltd from 2012 to 2013, Finland's Slot Machine Association from 2008 to 2012 and the Finnish Centre for Health Promotion between 2003 and 2008. I have also worked in Finland and abroad, particularly as a champion of health and well-being promotion and preventative action. In addition, I have been engaged in the development of collaboration between the public, private and third sectors. One of my most public achievements in Finland is the Heart Symbol system – I headed its development and start-up when working for the Finnish Heart Association between 1995 and 2003. I believe that it is important to be aware of the multidimensional potential of promotional and preventative work and to be bold in seeking new opportunities to act, rather than getting bogged down in listing the risks and snags.
