Prayer Article Series submitted by Pastor Donohue Sarff With Christ in the School of Prayer - Tenth Lesson – by Andrew Murray What do you want? or Prayer must be Definite! Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.” Mark 10:51 The blind man had been crying out aloud “Jesus Son of David, have mercy upon me!” The cry had reached the ear of the Lord. Jesus knew what the man wanted and was ready to grant it to him. But before he does it, He asks him: “What do you want me to do for you?” He wants to hear from his own lips, not only the general petition for mercy, but the distinct expression of what his desire was. Until he speaks it out, he is not healed. Our prayers must not be a vague appeal to His mercy, an infinite cry for blessing, but the distinct expression of definite need. Not that His loving heart does not understand our cry or is not ready to hear. But He desires it for our own sakes. Such definite prayer teaches us to know our own need better. It demands time, and thought, and self-scrutiny to find out what really is our greatest need. It searches us and puts us to the test as to whether our desires are honest and real. It leads us to judge whether our desires are according to God’s Word, and whether we really believe that we shall receive the things we ask. It helps us to wait for the special answer, and to mark it when it comes.

Bible Study Opportunities

Now’s a Perfect Time to Join!

New Year – New Adult Faith Formation Study –

“Honoring God” Sunday Mornings at 10:30am in the Conference Room

Our Adult Sunday Faith Formation class is a warm and inviting group of friendly and caring individuals, who love to learn, laugh and support one another through our Christian journey. No matter where you are on your faith journey, you are always welcome. We’ll provide a study guide intended to explore Scriptures, what they mean and discuss how they relate to our daily walk with Christ. Join us any time you can for fellowship, prayer and study. We begin our exploration of how worship, in its many forms honors God, on Sunday morning January 5 at 10:30am. From the early days of the Hebrews through Jesus' teachings on worship as prayer and care for those in need, God has shown his people how to honor him. Worship becomes not only public gatherings centered in word and sacraments, but also private listening to and addressing God in prayer. During this 13 week study, we’ll consider how worship is shaped by faith and how worship nurtures faith. And how relationships with God and His people are built when we worship in a group or individually. Hope to see you there!

Tuesday Morning Coffee & Conversation Continues Hosted by Pastor John Petersen—9:00am in the Fireside Room

I was eight years old when my grandmother introduced me to – actually got me hooked on coffee. It consisted of half cream, a spoonful of sugar and the rest was her famous egg coffee in a chipped porcelain cup. I’ve been drinking it ever since, only without the cream and sugar. I don’t recall just when I got hooked on reading and studying scripture, but when I’m not doing it with others, I miss it dearly.

Join Pastor John on Tuesday mornings at 9:00am to share in these two favorite passions of his – Coffee and Conversation about scripture. Each week we will dig into the three lessons (and occasionally the Psalm) assigned for the coming week’s worship.

We are looking to “buy up” Clearance Christmas Stockings for a new opportunity we’re planning for the Christmas season of 2020. If you’re at the store and get a

great deal on some ‘leftover’ stockings during after Christmas sales, please donate them to the church—more details to come next Christmas!

Rainbow Room, JAM and Kids Klub resume on January 5th and 8th.

CheckPoint

Christ the King is serious about safeguarding God’s children and we are concerned for the safety and protection of children any time they are in our facility.

Checkpoint is our online check-in/check-out system that assures your child is only being sent home with you (or a designated person of your choice).

We use Checkpoint for all children’s ministries: Rainbow Room, JAM, Kids Klub, Wacky-doodle, VBS and the Children’s Musicals. It’s also used for other groups as a nametag / attendance program.

The process—which only takes a minute—gives families printed badges when they check-in. The name badge sticks onto your child’s clothing; the other is taken by the parent and must be brought back to check-out.

It has always been our policy that children will not be dismissed unless the person picking them up has the matching badge. We do change parent leaders often and although many of you know parents and children in your child’s group, we ask that you please be sure to check the parent badge. And parents picking up children...be sure to have your badge ready to show!

If a parent does not have their security badge, they need to see either Wendy or Billie Jo.

To Amy Lorenz and family and Brian Hansen for their

time and talents assisting with the Children’s Christmas

Program. Your support is invaluable!
