Congratulatory Remarks

Today we are celebrating the fifth concert that is devoted to the close relationship between Korea and Bulgaria. Since its first conduction in 2013, these joint efforts to fostering cultural exchange have brought numerous renowned musicians, singers and audiences from both countries together to enjoy the beauty of music. I believe that these concerts bring us closer together and truly help to deepen our mutual understanding.

This concert constitutes the first performance of the Korean voice orchestra I MAESTRI in Bulgaria, which is currently on a concert tour in some of Europe’s most renowned concert halls. I MAESTRI has been recognized in Korea and many other countriesfor their deep harmonic understanding, through which the group skillfully managesto enchant their audience. Together with Bella Voce, an outstanding voice ensemble from Bulgaria, they will surely impress concertgoers and leave them with fond memoriesof this evening.

Like every year we are thankful to all the artists who make these concerts in Sofia an unforgettable experience. Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to all those, who are here to spend this meaningful time with us together.

Congratulatory Remarks

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea in 1990, the tradition of friendship and cultural dialogue between the two nations has been developing and deepening.

In recent years, ties between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea have been stronger than ever since the presidents of the two countries signed a Joint Declaration for a comprehensive and future-oriented partnership in May 2015. An important and necessary element of this partnership is cooperation in the field of culture and education. Our cultural cooperation has established traditions, which over the years have been filled with new content and dynamics. The Korean - Bulgarian Friendship Concert has established itself as a significant event in the cultural calendar of our capital, Sofia, and has become a symbol of friendship and collaboration between the two nations.

The fifth edition of the Korean-Bulgarian Friendship Concert will present to the Bulgarian audience a rich musical program, performed by virtuoso musicians from the Korean Male Choir I Maestri from Korea. These cultural festivities have an important goal: our better acquaintance, as culture has always been a bridge for mutual understanding and friendship.

It is a great honor for me to welcome and congratulate these talented Korean artists. Artists have a special mission to overcome borders and to unite peoples, to promote our common values.

I use this opportunity, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, to express my gratitude to H.E. Shin Boonam and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria, to the organizers of their efforts and persistence in the organization and realization of this wonderful event.

Good luck to the Korean-Bulgarian concert of friendship!

‘I MAESTRI’ meaning ‘master artists’, which is difficult to achieve, is the plural form of maestro. All 90 members who comprise this group are all men in their 30-40s. Each one of them has studied in Europe and in North America, and currently performing all over the world. Through the first and the second tenor to the baritone and bass, we can be tremendously moved by the sound of unheard of harmony. To let people know about Voice Orchestra and to develop it as global cultural content, I MAESTRI successfully performed in ‘Suntory Hall’ in Japan in July of 2008. They followed suit with a performance in Wel City Hall in Osaka, Japan, DCM Hall in Nahodka, and the Philharmonia Hall in Vladivostok and so forth. “I MAESTRI is a wonderful chorus with an energetic voice along with an amazing repertoire which brings a bond of sympathy to the world,” says Japanese music critic Noriko Kono. I MAESTRI was also invited to Taiwan, performing at the National Concert Hall in Taipei on July 15, 2010, and at Act City Hall in Hamamatsu, Japan on July 20, 2010. I MAESTRI had concert successfully in NCPA(National Center for the performing Arts) in Beijing, China in 2012, and also in Nobeoka, Japan in 2013, Kazahstanin 2014. In 2015 on their 10th anniversary of foundation, I MAESTRI were invited to USA, performing at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA, and at the NCPA in Beijing and Harbin Hall in Harbin, China.
