The 67th Scandinavian Neurosurgical Congress and the 38th Herbert Olivecrona Symposium 20192

Dear friends and colleagues,

On behalf of the Swedish Neurosurgical Society and the Organising Committee, I am proud to welcome you to Stockholm and SNS2019. What started as an idea in 2016 of a Swedish Neurosurgical Centennial has turned into the largest neurosurgical meeting to be held in Scandinavia thus far. This would not have been possible without the coo peration of the Scandinavian Neurosurgical Society, the Swedish Neu roradiology Society and the Swedish Society of Neurosurgical Nurses, as well as all exhibititors.

Furthermore, the annual Olivecrona Symposium and Award Ceremony has been moved to coincide with this meeting as a suitable grande finale on the last day of the meeting. The true essence of the conference is created by the participants and we are confident that it will live up to our expectations, thanks to all our distinguished world class keynote speakers, the Olivecrona Award recipient Professor Ali Krisht, as well as all the other eminent speakers from Scandinavia and beyond.

The scientific program is an unprecedented example of cooperation among Swedish Neurosurgical Departments. All the neurosurgical university clinics have participated in planning a part of the program. In addition, we have added some historical as well as visionary content in the program on Sunday in order to capture both the progress that has taken place over the past 100 years, as well as future prospects.

Besides the scientific program, I hope all participants will find time to enjoy one of the world’s most beautiful cities during the best time of the year. On Monday, the City and the County Council of Stockholm will graciously host us in the famous Stockholm City Hall and on Tuesday, we will enjoy an unforgettable gala dinner in Winterviken, the former Alfred Nobel Dynamite Factory, followed by music by the neurosurgical band “The Brain Brothers Blues Band.

I wish you all the best of times in Stockholm.

Magnus Tisell - President, Swedish Neurosurgical Society
