The Exalted Ruler’s Message
I hope this New Year finds each of you doing well and in
good health.
January is a time of resolutions, a time to start things that you
think are worthy of doing. This New Year, why not resolve to
become more active in your Lodge and increase your efforts on
behalf of the Lodge and Elkdom? Why not volunteer in one
activity more than last year? If each one of you participates in
only one activity a year more than last year, we will have a year
to remember. Elks make a tremendous difference in the lives of
our Members and the people we serve. You can be a part of that
difference by sharing the pride that comes with active membership and volunteer
service.
As Elks, we participate in an organization that supports our youth, we support our
armed forces and we have a deep respect for our country and flag. Why not resolve to
bring in at least one new Member this Lodge year? I know that each one of us has a
friend or neighbor that would make a great Elk. Consider asking if they would be
interested in what we have; we have a great organization and a solid message. Over the
years, the Elks mission has been consistent, and the membership has become more
inclusive. Today's guidelines for membership stipulate only that the candidate be invited
to join, be over the age of 21, be a citizen of the United States, and believe in God.
I would like to thank Mary Paule Goulet and all that helped make The Memorial
Service so very special. It takes many hands to bring something like that together and it
makes me proud to have the support we have in this Lodge to accomplish things like
this.
I would like to take a moment to bring to the Lodge’s attention the volunteer issue, as
most know we use volunteers to work weekly functions such as Bingo, Tuesday drawing
and dinner as well as Friday night dinners. The same teams of volunteers have been
doing this for years and it is time to start getting some new blood to assist at these as
there is a possibility of these functions going away because we can’t afford to hire help
for these functions and still have them be profitable for the Lodge. Please consider
asking about what you could do to help even if it is once or twice a month it would help
immensely.
Lastly, I would like to thank all of you for making this past year a meaningful, fun
and joyful one.
From Marcia and I . . . let’s all have a safe and prosperous New Year.
Fraternally & Sincerely,
Randy Corey, Exalted Ruler, PDDGER
